The use of guitar is somewhat troubling, but it 'seems' to be shaping up well enough...also, this ad airs during the Super Bowl.
I don't think you need to worry about the music yet. This is still a pretty short teaser.
I like the aesthetic of it, if nothing else. The movie could still be terrible, but I'm willing to give it a shot.
I'm a tad bit concerned, but I'm also very excited to see it all come together. They're really going a good job at replicating the look of the show, and from what we can see of the bending CGI, it is more than adequate. I'm worried about what they are doing with the action though. All we can see in this trailer is growling and posing one minute, while flaling about in some Watchmen-style slo-mo the next. This is popular nowadays, but is nothing like the high energy martial arts fighting of the series. And once again, this trailer is nothing but Serious Business, without a hint of the humor and heart the show held at its core (ooh, alliteration). We still haven't seen anything outside of set pieces with narration in a trailer yet (might that be Roku narrating this one?), so I'll wait for a clip that actually shows the gAang interacting before passing any judgement for or against.
EDIT: For those uninitiated, I found this well-writen (beyond saying Avatar had 4 seasons) article briefly describes the show and the movie's production quite well.
The special effects look cool
I was never really much of an Avatar fan, but this looks really cool! I'd like to see it when its out. =)
Kinda want..though the fact that Shamalyn (I know I mispelled it) is directing has me a tad worried (What has he done lately??) so we'll see. Me not being the biggest Avatar fan might be the reason why I'm not so pessimistic...that and it's too short to give a better answer.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...!!!
*breathe*
AH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
It already looks and sounds better than Dragonball Evolution. And I completely forgot that it was M. Night making this movie. I mean, really? M. Night? Mr. Twist? Also, they seem to be focusing on the crazy action and making it all dark and "THIS KID'S GONNA KICK YOUR ASS TO NEXT TOOZDAY!!!" While I agree with the notion, it kinda seems to be missing the point of the Avatar show... methinks.
SPOILER ALERT - the kid's already dead. =O
Ha! I saw this yesteday. Never got around to watching the show, but always thought...it looked "too good" for Nickelodeon. Will most definitely be checking this out when it comes out.
You go ahead and do that, but watch the cartoon, dammit. It was awesome. Seriously.
I read a blog that tried to remind us about Shyamalan's poor luck with trailers. He's notorious for all his movies, no matter whether they're a drama, like Unbreakable, a romance, like the Villiage, or a fantasy, like Lady in the Water, to be trailered as a Sixth Sense-style thriller.
Now we've got an Avatar trailer that showcased hard rock, action, and the end of the world. So who knows, maybe's Night's getting buggered by the studio again and the actual movie does showcase a tone more like the cartoon.
At ten seconds in, if you look in the upper-left corner, you can see Appa.
...some Watchmen-style slo-mo...This is popular nowadays, but is

Actually, Watchmen slo-mo, which I'm pretty sure used to be called Matrix slo-mo, was part of the original show. Usually used to emphasize a near hit on a major character. I can think of at least 3 or 4 instances of it in the series.
All in all, I'm cautiously optimistic about this movie. While it basically looks nothing like the original series, the costumes being the second most glaring difference, it might just be able to preserve its core spirit. A reincarnation for the series if you will. Or I might just be setting myself up for a huge disappointment in the form of a movie so awful it's not even good snark bait.
In any event, unless this movie becomes a runaway hit of at least the spider-man level, we've gotta face that this is the only airbender movie we're getting. This is isn't the sort of franchise likely to get a reboot/remake in the event of failure. For this reason, I have to be optimistic for this movie. So that this story of a boy who tried to run from his destiny, only to face it head on and become a hero, can be told and retold for years to come.
Well, there's bullet time, and there's randomly slowing down and speeding up the action.

aka 'speed-ramping' aka 'that thing they did a lot in 300'
I hope this will be good.

There we go, I didn't know it had a name. It was also used a lot in Zombieland, but I loved it there because it was usually used ironically.

Click on the circled button
Enter video titlee, click 'embed'.
Ok. but what about the url?
It doesn't do URLs; you enter in the title of the video you want from Youtube, click the 'Youtube' button, and it'll search for a list of videos. Pick the one you want and hit Insert.
Or you could just copy the HTML code for embedding the video from Youtube itself, and click the 'Add from HTML' button in the upper right.
Cool! Thanks.
Wow, The reviews are really horrible! I had some hope that even though N. Shyamalan is in charge, it's supposed to be based of an awesome cartoon and that would make up for Shyamalan's tragic history. I'm crossing my fingers that it makes more sense than his "Lady in the Water" movie thing.
I just want to sit down and enjoy TLAB... Please let this movie not suck!
Wow. I wonder if we could be seeing the collapse of Hollywood's MAKE EVERYTHING EPIC mantra. There have been lots of bad big budget movies and 3D is just being pointlessly added to movies that aren't made for it. Comic book movies saved the mantra for a while, but it's looking like Dark Knight might be the movie industry's version of Watchmen - great, but ushering in a literal dark age thanks to talent limited imitators and execs pushing it to stories where it doesn't belong. It's not that this sort of thing is new, but I question how long budgets can continue to support it at this level of self parody.
To understand what I mean:
The Last Airbender - NO COMEDY THIS IS SRS BUSINESS
Spider-Man - Edgier Reboot! (one of the few bad techniques in the first 2 was the excessive seriousness)
Probably more if I wanted to think about more of them
Well Avatar did pretty well...so no, they'll still be tempted.
Well Avatar did pretty well...so no, they'll still be tempted.
But Avatar has the name James Cameron attached to that movie. His resume is impressive in terms of movies and Box Office intake.
M Night Shyamalan gave us Lady in the Water.
... Yeah...
True but sometimes even one success is good enough to convince studios to give it a shot. The lure of hitting it big will be too great.
Hopefully they'll be smart about it and hire a decent director.
Yeah, but my problem is that studios look at a successful property and thing "Well this is so silly and unrealistic that it will never fly.
I KNOW Let's make it look as realistic as possible! "
That's what happened with this movie (That and the lack of a ethnic diversified cast). If it bombs then there is no "Book Two" and I hope that it doesn't bomb, because if estimates are correct, with the advertising, CG work and other stuff thrown into this movie. The studio could go bankrupt. (est: 280 Million)
Shyamalan is what happened to this movie
Shyamalan:
The first outline I made of the movie I bought Mike and Bryan to my
house and said, "I have an outline of the movie, what do you think?" And
they said, "This is like 10 hours long. You have to cut stuff." And I
thought, "I can't. I love everything."
Well that explains why most of the dialogue is apparently awkward exposition.
So, has anyone watched it, yet to see if the movie is really worthy of the bad reviews?
So, has anyone watched it, yet to see if the movie is really worthy of the bad reviews?
Seriously, I wonder if somehow the show's writers KNEW it was going to be a bad movie 2 years ago. That dialog exchange at the end is just too prophetic to be coincidental.
I saw it. Just now. Just got home.
It is awful. A truly awful movie. I'm not saying that as a fan of the show, because in terms of plot and backstory, they actually don't deviate that much.
I'm saying that as a work of storytelling, the movie is a complete failure. They're so busy shoving the exposition down people's throats, they forgot to tell a friggin story. So many of the important character development happens off camera, it's ridiculous. I can't imagine that a movie with a multimillion budget could have gotten made. Didn't anyone actually read the script?
Riiight...so like...people are making[and paying] millions to make craptacular spectacles? There must be something good about it. Otherwise I say we shut down Hollywood and let Pixar and Dreamworks make movies from here on out. I really really REALLY want to see this. Never got to see alot of the cartoon and probably wouldn't get around to the books for years. >.> Is there no hope in the world anymore? v_v
I just saw a blog that said some scary things about the state of Hollywood and what will happen if The Last Airbender does well in the box office. It talked about the last critical failure that made a crapload of money, Revenge of the Fallen. It was absolutely terrible and brain-dead, but it made just about the same profit as the brilliant The Dark Knight. This had people debating about whether or not film needs to stimulate your brain in any useful way in order to be successful. The blog said that if Airbender does as well as Nolan's new thinking-man's-thriller, Inception (or worse, does better), there may be no hope for us, as Hollywood will think it doesn't need to challenge our perceptions if it can just show a few explosions and call it a day.
Well...yea TTG is pretty much on what i'm saying. I gotta say Inception looks fantastic. I was going to see Airbender...think i'll go see Inception instead. Like 4 times.

Hollywood has been thinking like that for years. It's obvuios that is Wild Hogs can hold the number one spot in the Box Office for three weeks and if some of the biggers blockbusters are based on 80's cartoon line with little creative plot and near non-exsitant character development then I say we are already there.
And in cased we forget. Twilight: Eclispe made 68 Million in it's opening day.
OPENING DAY!
P.S: I maybe mistaken, but Nickelodeon has NEVER had a movie that
opening No.1 on the Box Office. Snow Day & The Spoongbob
Squarepants Movie both opened at No.2.
I think what is funny is that everyone is saying it's so bad and then others will be bold enough to see if it's a massive trainwreck, allowing them to make more money!
This makes me happier than it probably should. D: I admit, the trailers I've seen of this movie, I thought, "Wow, this looks like it may not suck!" Now, I'm with Zuko on this.
Hm, shame. I hope this doesn't bode bad for the new show's prospects.
*perks up* Kwa? New series?
Not sure if I want?
Already satisfied how Avatar: The Last Airbender ended. This could be as phenomenal as it's predecessor or it could end up like that one show that it's sequel ended up doing poorly than it's original (Like show's before that has done that, but right now I cannot think of one)?

THAT THE ONE! Digimon Adventure 02. That's the series I was thinking of. Man that was bad. The rest except for Alien Force deserve honorable mention for being just as bad.
Thanks Ultra!

To provide a counterpoint:
Justice League Unlimited, successor of Justice League?
Batman Beyond, successor of Batman: TAS?
You know, I always considered Justice League Unlimited was more like another season of Justice League only with a larger cast (Plus Black Canary & Huntress, yummy).
Don't mind me...I'm a moron...
