edit - will the server be updated to the latest version of the game? i can't connect as it's still the previous one.

There wasn't one available until just now, and it came with the caveat that it's unstable. I backed up all the server info just in case.

So I tried to connect tonight.

But I don't know if it was the recent update messing with the server (another one yes) or the shoddy pub connection, but I was timing out =< Wasn't just MoFo though so I'm suspecting the connection.

Well there was ANOTHER update. I just installed and tested it and as of right now, appears to be working fine.

I am now digging out my own residence.

EDIT: This attached picture describes the first half of my first evening with Minecraft.

The second half? Essentially working with Steebay to connect my house with his land...by tunneling under the ocean.

It's so long, a rest area is needed. It comes with a scenic oceanbottom view!

EDIT2: My first time in Minecraft, and many things have been accomplished in the first 8 hours.

A lit pathway now connects Spork Mountain and my little home, so feel free to stop by!

Steebay and I worked in concert for a couple of hours; he had the idea to build a pathway connecting his area (I assume) with my littler corner of the map. However, we're separated by ocean, so it's going deep underground. I've named it the Steebay Chunnel; it's so long, I put in the aforementioned rest area. Take note of the bed with a view!

A farm is now going, the homestead is newly redecorated (after a double Creeper ambush in the morning), and my next objective is to build a massive tower from which one can see all around!

But first; more digging.

On a side note Becca, I walled off the bed on Spork Mountain and placed a door there, because I found out the hard way that monsters can wake you up from your precious slumber. 😛

You can actually use beds in multiplayer now? Last I checked they were bugged and useful only as a spawn point...

Oh yes you can. In multiplayer, if there's more than one player on the server, EVERYONE has to get into a bed if you want to transition from night to day. If you alone just do it, nothing happens.

Fortunately, I was on my own for a majority of the evening, so I didn't have that issue. 😛

EDIT: Also, Sparky is building a GIGANTIC tower. o_o

Try and see if you can get to my place (you can quickly get there if you first head to Spork Mountain); the tunnels under my home have loads of iron ore.

EDIT: Busy day! Turns out that my mine connects with Velotix's deep underground; overground, his place (and Ramza's) lies on a paved road that connects to Spork Mountain, via which one can get to my area.

Sparky created a massive tower, with lava flowing out and everything. Very Isengard-ish. He calls if 'Colossus de Lavè', if I recall correctly.

Independently, on a whim, I decided to make a large structure...out of trees.

Speaking of burning, someone (I can't recall who) found a natural lava spring burning down a forest somewhere.

Get some trap doors, arrange them two-wide into a bridge. Line both sides with wooden planks, and coat the top with redstone circuits running the whole length. Get a lever, and voila; a drawbridge.

The status for me just changed from "unknown" to "running." Before I file a ticket, can anyone get in right now?

That did it, it works for me now.

Same thing happened as well. Nothing changed except a minor inventory reboot.

i was kicked off the server at that time too, but as it was 1am and i was going to bed anyway, i didn't try too hard to get back online.

is it any way related to that unknown guy who was wondering around the server? what did he do in the end anyway? o.o

he's been in there twice as far as i've seen. first time he vanished as soon as we said hi, the second i tihnk he wondered aorund a bit until the server crashed.

i'm being paranoid here, but think we could give out the IP for the server through note only and remove it from the first post of this thread?

If you're paranoid, then so am I.

However, if the guy has the IP now, he'll still have it. Velotix suggested the idea of a whielist; ban everyone except those listed.

It's standard procedure as it's the only security system vanilla Minecraft actually has, so honestly I assumed you'd already have one which is why I asked you to put me on it in my first post. XD

For the record, as I got there just before the server died: Crim's link to the underground tunnel network is fully functional, although the hatch is admittedly a bit fiddly.

Somehow, this squid got inside the chunnel. Slippery little bugger.

All of the major construction seems to be within a fairly small cluster of sorts, within walking distance overground (with the exception of Crimmy's spa). Take a gander at Velotix's new Veloticore, under construction:

Course, this was all under construction still. By the end, Velotix had subsumed the tunnels connecting a few of us already (the Steebay Chunnel between me and Steebay, the short trek from Srol's to Steebs) into a large underground network at layer 55, well-lit and walled off for safe travel during all hours and all weather.

Here's another shot I took (my Hanging Gardens have grown just a wee bit more) of the 'big three':

Sparky also made a slight change to his Colossus; granted, the change now makes the tower look like a giant stick of dynamite, but I digress:

Srol also briefly floated the idea of filling his Conformoplex (a giant gray cube) with TNT and igniting it. Cooler heads prevailed (I was not one of them. :P). As for me? A majority of the time was spent clearing out a new cavern (enormous! Mushrooms, red stone, lapis, lava springs, gold, and DIAMOND!!!), creating a new nether portal (which transported me farther out than any of the others had ever gone thus far), and forming landmarks that lead to the nether portal via the overworld (Crimmy, look out back behind your spa the next chance you get. You'll see).

So yah.

I got an automated response to my support ticket on the crashes saying a lot of people are having issues because the 1.6 build of bukkit is putting an increased server load on them. They've offered a free upgrade to a server with more RAM until a better build comes out.
