So I just saw this over at wtf_nature on LJ. The International Institute for Species Exploration has named its top 10 favourite new species that were described last year. According to the article, they winnow down a list of 20,000 possible species each year to just a few really wild and wonderful critters.
Here's the article in question.
Personally, I think my favourite out of the lot of those has to be the Psychedelic Frogfish. I mean, that's just an awesome species name, and besides - just look... at...
what...
ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOFISH!
I like the Dracula minnow myself.
And I admit, I giggled immaturely at the phallis mushroom.
i like the new slug, i used to raise snails so i have a thing for them.
the fish you like silver is cool like a cartoon, but the one that made me laugh was the killer sponge a sponge that eats meat.... that's just spongebob eatting a crabby burger.
