Maybe I'm a bit behind the times and you guys already know about THIS, but... looks like you picked the wrong month to ship out in, Craig. ;p

Must make sure to get that Saturday off work...

If lots of MoFoers were going to this I might be tempted to pop down for a visit (especially as I missed Comic Expo due to absentmindedness). However it is sadly sandwiched between my two remaining big festivals of the summer (Wacken and Bloodstock) so funds will be short.

Some how.

Some way.

I will have my revenge. It will be swift and steely like Sweeney... and it could happen at any time.

Hm, it IS free to attend, so I might try and go. Not sure if I'm that arsed about it though...

Creg picked the right time to move away, I foresee much D: with Sega's new releases and hold little hope of a Sonic comeback with their new games (that way if they turn out to be better than poop i can )

And I ain't afraid of no TD! it has been tamed by sagey!

Apart from maybe abi, I'm the closest one to any event that's being held in London (lol stabby croydon) and I doubt I'll be going to it (bring on creoland '08!).

DAMN IT!

This is why I hate the us...

Unfortunately, as much as I'd love to come (Hell, I've got a quite a bit of UK blood; 1/8th Welsh, 1/16th Irish, 1/16th Scottish but no British surprisingly ._. ), the little thing called "broke" will keep me from coming. But if I could... I would!

Oh well, those who come, you better have an awesome time! =O

Cute Miles pic - am now surprised that I haven't seen one before.

I'm actually cautiously optimistic. As much as the con's getting SoE funding and support - which means having to play the PR game - it's being organised by older fans, and it's spreading out through the online community, which is also full of older fans (since the UK hasn't had a Sonic comic for a long time, most vocal fans over here're either old-timers or came into the fandom with the new games, with very little inbetween that I've met). Even with the newer aspects of Sonic on offer, I think that there's a high probability that the people who actually turn up will be slightly more vintage and possibly just hanging around being old-school at each other. I could live with that.

Shouldn't you guys of held the sonic fan convention before the series started sucking?

I just realized the mofo was founded in 1999 and that was when sonic games first started on their downhill slide into mediocrity. IT WAS OUR FAULT ALL ALONG!

Update: the game with exclusive preview plays on offer will be Sonic Chronicles: the Dark Brotherhood - the upcoming title I'm actually interested in!

I'll be working until 8pm for a few nights to make up for it, but I've confirmed the day off, too. So I'll be there.

And Stair, I'd say that holding a convention when the franchise sucks seems fairly human to me - when it's going well, we don't need to remind ourselves that it actually used to be good.

I agree after all people here in the U.S. have all thouse 40-50 year old men that go to Star Trek conventions (lets face it's almost always sucked, yea never been much o a trekie I like star wars better.) But Yea Conventions are good they give the fans hope for a Brighter future (Its times like this I wish I could make it to Comicon, sigh.)

I didn't sign up for Summer of Sonic straight away because I wanted to be quite sure about my work timetable. I got next month's schedule on Tuesday.

And registrations closed yesterday due to being oversubscribed, before I could get my name down.

As much as I'd have very much liked to catch up with certain people, it's otherwise no skin off my nose either way - it means more spare cash for the summer LARP season, and I've always been pretty much the antithesis of unconditional Kitching adulation and being convinced that StC-O is the best thing since the bread slicer.

But I can't help wondering how many people this is going to annoy. I know that the drawback with fan conventions is that you're working on a fan budget and maybe that was the issue (I wouldn't know), but surely organisers of the world's inaugural convention for a multi-national fandom that's almost old enough to order a pint by itself (in the UK, anyway) would expect more than two hundred people in the hall at once?

This seems an awfully late and hasty time to formulate a contingency plan. At the risk of sounding like Aesop's fox when taunted by the grapes, the fact that registrations've been cut after they became over-subscribed and talk of things like timed entry makes me wonder what quality of experience I'd be getting for my US$100 train fare, anyway - I'm going to be crossing my fingers that the organisers're allowed to take this as a learning experience for any potential next time (at least they had the guts and enthusiasm to try, and I respect that), rather than cause enough hassle for them and bad feeling for the attendees for this to be a one-off.

"We thank everyone who has shown interest in attending the Summer of Sonic convention. It has truly ballooned into a large-scale event that we can all be proud of. It's gotten so big, that although the Dragon Hall can only hold 200 people at the maximum, since this site's launch we have had registrations that are almost double that."

200 people?! even my old school halls could hold many more than that (especially as it had support from SOE). I see this event ending up like some recent sonic games... looking good on pen and paper, worries start to set in as you get closer to the release, then on day it all goes pear shaped and everyone ends up D:.

But I can't help wondering how many people this is going to annoy.... the fact that registrations've been cut after they became over-subscribed and talk of things like timed entry makes me wonder what quality of experience I'd be getting for my £50 train fare

Those that booked late to the event (and missed out on any super saver train tickets) will be very pissed if after spending a great deal on transport and possibly accommodation to be denied entry to SoS.

I thought the same thing. The knock-on from timed entry or somesuch could really wind up some of the people coming from outside the UK and expecting to be able to just loiter like they would at a regularcon (you've seen the photographic evidence of MFers practically having our own corner to colonise for the weekend at Bristol) - and since it's a free con with no formal registration, there's nothing from stopping more people from just joining the queue at the door and affecting the chances of anyone getting in, either.

Like I said: we can hope that everything doesn't go completely to pieces and that someone's inspired to do a better job if there's a next time.
