dr WHO declares swine flu pandemi!!! *falls off ladder* also it should be noted that so far more people have died from planes being unable to stay in the sky so far....

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a global flu pandemic after holding an emergency meeting.

It means the swine flu virus is spreading in at least two regions of the world with rising cases being seen in the UK, Australia, Japan and Chile. WHO chief Dr Margaret Chan said the move did not mean the virus was causing more severe illness or more deaths. The swine flu (H1N1) virus first emerged in Mexico in April and has since spread to 74 countries.

This is an example of pigs (above)

Even President Ford was so worried he decided to get the jab! (below)

Official reports say there have been nearly 30,000 cases globally and 141 deaths, with figures rising daily. Hong Kong said it was closing all its nurseries and primary schools for two weeks following 12 school cases. It is the first flu pandemic in 40 years - the last in 1968 killed about one million people. However, the current pandemic seems to be moderate and causing mild illness in most people. Most cases are occurring in young working age adults and a third to a half of complications are presenting in otherwise healthy people. Dr Chan said: "We have evidence to suggest we are seeing the first pandemic of the 21st Century. "Moving to pandemic phase six does not imply we will see increased in deaths or serious cases." She added it was important to get the right balance between complacency and vigilance and that pandemic strategies would vary between countries depending on their specific situation.

Creo you do realise that a good portion of the forum won't understand most of the jokes you made, right? D:

Also seasonal flu kills thousands of times more people per year than swine flu has so far so bah.

And to any non-brits, the last picture is of the leader of the BNP, a political party who are set on throwing all the non-whites out of the UK. Renouned for being a total ****** to boot. So I say he is both.

i'm not living in fear of swine flu, no more then any other kind of illness out there. wash your hands after going outside, don't lick doorhandles, avoid being sneezed on and you should be fine. ^-^

See I used to check if it was a door nob or hob-nob by licking them. But no more!

The idea of pigs being on my hob-nobs terrifies me D: D: D:

Jesus Christ, is the world still getting all up in it's grill about a flu outbreak? It's yet to claim more lives than the annual influenza take.

You'd think there'd be more coverage on the fact that N. Korea has scraped it's peace treaty with S. Korea and re-opened it's nuclear weapons production facilities, dropped from 6 nation meetings and is more or less one itchy finger from starting a chain reaction not even Ozymandias could prevent.

I heard that that was one of the reasons the who was so reluctant to declare it as a full pandemic, in spite of it having qualified - people start to panic, and forget that pandemic status is based on spread rather than the severity of the condition or its fatalities.

Apparently, they're thinking of putting tiers into the final level in future.

And as far as Nick Griffin goes? At least he's not your region's MEP... *facepalm*

But something tells me that the people who didn't vote for him'll be motivated enough to keep the eggs flying in his direction for a while yet.

Pandemic shmandemic We almost got held up in China due to the outbreak and ewe were even concerned we would be deport because of the piggy flu.

We in the scientific community have one thing to say *ahem*: "Sweeeet, a new strain of the mutated 1918 Spanish Influenza virus!". I have a friend who just got hired by the government (can't say agencies and stuff) to work on the virus itself in a high security facility in the East Coast. Fear not my dear public for we are actively playing with... I meant researching the isolated viral strains.

The pretty virus is not new. Instead it's our old friend with a new face and paint job. Granted some antibodies our body makes can recognize this strain it's not 100% recognized hence some people die. Regardless, season flu is more virulent meaning more infectious and can kill better or more efficiently. We have been wondering why not everyone who gets infected with H1N1 piggy flu virus dies... and that my dear Watson is the question of the moment.

After carefully assessing the MoFo with all my fancy scientific experiments, I hereby declare this forum is now under quarantine due to detection of Swine Flu!
