That is, unless you're willing to part with your old afro. :3

Iran launches crackdown on Western hairstyles, Culture
Ministry bans mullet, ponytails, long hair

The mullet is definitely not in fashion. And if you live in Iran,
it's also illegal.

Along with ponytails, elaborate spikes, and
long hair, Iran has issued a list of approved Muslim hairstyles in
effort to ban the country of "decadent Western cuts."

A photo
catalogue of acceptable styles will be published and promoted this month
at the 'Modesty and Veil Festival,' according to London's Telegraph.

"The
proposed styles are inspired by Iranians' complexion, culture and
religion, and Islamic law," said Jaleh Khodayar,
who is in charge of a festival.

Short and conservative haircuts
have been given the thumbs up. Hair gel is okay, but only if it’s used
sparingly. But men's eyebrow plucking? Forget about it.

In
recent years, Iranian police have raided barber’s shops offering
"Western hairstyles." Their owners are warned to not repeat their
actions.

First time violators will receive an unflattering
short-back-and-sides cut. But serial offenders face stiff fines. And
barber shops catering to western styles, can be shut down.

The
plan is being implemented together with the University
of Tehran
and the local association of barbers "in order to avoid
inappropriate hairstyles and encourage an Islamic culture."

Conservative
clerics have called for action against un-Islamic dressers—including
women in short coats and men donning low-rise jeans. Ties are also
considered a symbol of Western decadence.

Earlier this year, an
Iranian cleric blamed women who wear revealing clothing for causing
earthquakes.

Hojjat ol-eslam Kazem Sediqi
also said promiscuity causes natural disasters.

"Many women who
do not dress modestly lead young men astray and spread adultery in
society which increases earthquakes," he said.

So in other words, I would be okay...if I air-dried (in which my hair falls flat and fluffy). But if I hair-dry (turning my hair uber-spiky), then it's to jail.

Well don't that beat all!

...Are they asking to be bombed or something?

I'm seriously beginning to wonder now. Something major's going to give within the next 100 years and that'll be the end of the entire Middle East. :/

I HELPED CAUSED AN EARTHQUAKE 8D

But seriously, wtf. I can understand promoting a look and encouraging people to follow it, but making it illegal? ....x__o; the words aren't coming to me. I don't think they should. They'd probably be laced with profanity and skljhgkjdshgkjabshgkjhasdfh

In their favour, they made the mullet illegal.

...also is it just me or does the picture of the dude at the top of the first post, because of the stuff in the background, look like he's exhaling coloured smoke?

I must agree with SS in that they made the mullet illegal and all its other various and terrifying variations.

If they want to start getting rid of Western things, they should all just wear Islamic wear...=D

I, too, joined in on Boobquake!

Really, this infuriates me.  In this day and age, two thousand and freaking ten, when we have satellites that can see into your kitchen, we still have parts of the world with this kind of ridiculous intolerance.

Is there any reason why the UN put Iran on their Human Rights Commission, or whatever it's called? I think not.

Oh it's not THAT bad.  They even left it up the individual law enforcement officer's discretion what qualifies as a "Western Hair Style".   This OBVIOUSLY in NO WAY endorses Follicular Profiling.  I can't believe that in this day and age you'd think law enforcement officers would use this law in that way.  D:

lolz @ Boobquake! I also supported this very very good and much needed cause. My dirty boss was a happy man that day with us Americans 😛

This is getting out of hand. No freedom whatsoever. I wonder if comb-overs will be allowed? But hey, no more mullets is ok with me!

i cant imagine god ever agreeing to humans making the perfect life he created chokingly difficult on others would please him. what kinda person thinks god wants that?

although i think we can all agree that the main topic is:  what iran is doing and others like it is just to oppress people nothing more. just to insult them and show them they are nothing but cattle that even the smallest things like how to wear their hair is a freedom they cant ever have and no one can do anything about it.

its slavery.
