Well, around the area I currently live in New Jersey (lol), namely the town of Irvington (gotta get away from there o_o), is where Queen Latifah grew up. Her mom used to work at my high school. 😀

That's just off the top of my head.

For me,

Southampton UK,

Well, in the past:

Southampton was bombed to hell during the Second World War, with the High Street being reduced to rubble. They have pictures of it on some of the buses that travel around the area and it'll be easily seen on the Internet.

The Southampton walls. These are fun, because you can see the land that used to be "Old Southampton" and see how people used to live when surrounded by the waters. A lot of the walls have falled down, but quite a fair bit still stands and it's quite impressive. Southampton used to be small.

The Docks, which were vital in the wars. They are still as massive as ever, however they aren't used as much as they used to be. Now it looks like old storage bins and old decrepid warehouses. =(

The Titanic - who doesn't know of this one? The museum dedicated to it still is open (the only museum left now)

Nowadays -

Sopping centres...
Chavs...
Rubbish...

mehs

Smaller than I ever would have thought. I was surprised to see another Australian on here, let alone a fellow Taswegian. oo

I'm from Fresno, California. Which has a good argument for being the grape capital of the world.

Detroit, MI:We're the home of techno and we're also famous for having high crime rates... and cars. And some other sutff I'm probably not aware of... oh, some parts of the Transformers movie was filmed here and the new Transformers animated series on Toonami is set in a futuristic version of this city. It was also the setting of the show "Home Improvement"... and Eminem was born here, I geuss.Oh, and Motown records... which started Stevie Wonder, The Temptations and James Brown. >_<

I ca'nt really think of anything else...

Tallahassee, FL. Which gives a few implications, not the least of which is some little... election-thing... from a few years ago. Two universities. Two capitol buildings, the newer of which is quite (in)famous for its... uh... "architecture." A chain of parks down our Park Avenue. And more hills than I think a Florida city should have (yeah, it's pretty much South Georgia).

I'm originally from Key West. The Conch Republic. The Rock. Hot, humid, hurricanes, dusty, overpriced, a bunch of tourists, greedy developers, and brainless city and county officials.

Hershey's, the great American chocolate bar. Central PA, USA. There's other things around this area, but that's arguably the most identifying attraction. Also home to the most convenient yet terrifyingly shoddy summer employment for ages 15-20 in history: Hersheypark.

*bumps*

I thought of a few more lol

-Ever wanted to sing out CHOCOLATE RAAAAAAIN? That dude is from Minneapolis

-Ever craved some frozen pizza? The first marketed frozen pizza was created here in Minnesota... by a family known as the Totino's. You probably know them for their pizza rolls and party pizzas... I know them for their high school :D

- Ever heard of the Saggybottom Boys? Like to say 'Friendo'? Do you rest assured "The Dude Abides"? Legendary director brothers Joel and Ethan Coen were born and raised in a suburb of Minneapolis.

Salem, Oregon?

Well, the classic film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was filmed here, and the band Everclear is from the state. That's about it.

He wasn't born in the Detroit region (Kansas City, MO, actually), but he grew up there. To my knowledge, he still lives nearby in Rochester Hills.

Bern, Switzerland.

Well, for one thing, it's the capital of Switzerland. The city center is rather famous, since all of the old town is intact and has a special kind of architecture called "Loube". They are like small portal-like arcades beneath the houses and form the side walks (its kind of hard to explain). Apparently, because of this architectural speciality, the town has the longest covered shopping district of Europe (yes, that means when you go shopping there when it rains, you dont get wet). The old town is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Other tourist attractions include:

- the Zytglogge (literally time bell) tower: most photographed subject of the city because it has a Medieval construction of dancing puppets (and some other things) parading at every full hour.
- the Bregrabe (bear pit): another Medieval construction. Just basically a pit with live bears in it legend has it that the founder of Bern, Duke Berchtold V of Zhringen named the city after the first animal he had killed in a hunt, a bear. Since then, bears have been held in the town as a symbol of its namesake. (I wonder what the city would have been named had it been a rabbit he had killed :D )
- the Garden of Roses: a nice place with a nice view over the entire city
- the Bundeshaus: the National Parliament

Oh, and: Albert Einstein used to live in Bern and teach at the University of Bern (the uni I went to :) )

Here are some images of the city:

In the last one you can see the "Loube".

Other than that the city has everything, including cinemas and other night life stuff.

Oh, and here's the Wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bern

Did I mention that I LOVE this city?
