This isn't a "What you're listening to" topic, this is what you're favorite band is of all time. One group. That's it. And why.

I'll post my choice and why later on.

My choice? Iron Maiden. Why you ask? Well, I love the guitar work, and especially the vocals (Bruce Dickinson, in my mind, is the greatest Metal Vocalist of all time) and I really love how much energy they have when they play live. Even in their 40's and onward, they continue to play live with so much enthusiasm and energy... it just astounds me. But why do I really love them? To me at least, they seem to be one of the more meaningful bands in terms of their lyrical writing.

Let me elaborate on this, take the Song "Powerslave". If you look at the lyrics, it appears its a story of a Pharoh(sp?) who had power but with his greed and lust, lost it. However, after much searching through wiki, it appears that the song is also an allegory to Bruce Dickinson's distaste for the music industry and how they selfishly abuse talent and so forth. When I found out I thought "Hey, that's pretty cool. Let me recheck the lyrics to see if wiki was right," And well, I felt myself agreeing with the statement in general. The same thing happened with some of their other songs. To me at least, I seem to get philosophical messages out of certain songs, like Dream of Mirrors; being about (To me at least) how dream can affect you in this world and such. I don't know what it is... their lyrics just to me don't seem like something that are run of the mill metal lyrics. There just seems to be something deeper to me... but I'm sure you guys will disagree with me in some form... but that's why I love them.

Okay, your guys turn. And feel free to comment on why other people like their favorite group and so on.

The Aquabats!

Why? WHY? Dude... they are the most awesome, fun and totally radical band ever assembled under the hammer of justice. To dislike the Aquabats is to dislike joy and good and all the super awesome things this world has to offer.

Edit: Actually, I listen to alot of Bad Religion, Cake, The Offspring... But Cake is seriously the band.

The Pettit Project/Love You To Death. Why? Well they're easy to relate with songs referring to: break-ups, hook-ups, video game analogies, and stalkers. Hahah! They're fun, funny and super crazy awesome.

I'm kinda big with The Offspring. I just loves their musics and some of their more crazy songs. From something more serious like "Gone Away" to something way more stupid like "When You're in Prison", they've always got a song I'm in the mood for.

Well, I love Iron maiden and Slayer, and lets not forget Cannibal corpse and Trivium. I love a whole lot of bands, but the best for me is Metallica hands down. The first time I heard For whom the bell tolls it completely changed my life. I'm not even kidding. I had no idea that Metal even existed until I started listening to Metallica. After for whom the bell tolls, I discovered songs like The Unforgiven and Fade to black. The songs Metallica played and still play have always struck a deeper tone with me. Metallica's sound is also pretty awesome. The have this unique sound that I've never heard another band play. Until I die I'll be a Metallica fan. And when I do, I'll be a super Metallica fan.

I'd say Cold or Symphony X. Cold broke up like 2 years ago, it's a shame but they knew the quality of their music was beginning to degrade, I guess they ended on a high note. Symphony X on the other hand keeps getting better and better. Michael Romeo is the most amazing guitarist EVER, and Russell Allen has a beautiful singing voice. Their songs can be really hard core without ever being offensive, which is a quality that not many modern bands share. Also there are three Michaels in the band. Haha.

You are the only other person I know who likes Symphony X, lol. I LOVE them.

For me, it's always a mix of progressive rock and progressive metal bands. My all-time fav is Pink Floyd, followed by Rush, Yes, Dream Theater, Opeth, Alice In Chains, The Beatles (duh), Cynic, ELO, Kansas, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Queensryche, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, System Of A Down... my list goes on for miles still...

I saw them on an episode of Radio Free Roscoe.

Since Mr. Mathers is not a band, I'll have to go with...

...THE BEASTIE BOYS. The first time I saw and heard them was on an MTV Movie Awards show and I fell in love. I've got all their major studio albums. My favorite one is Licensed to Ill. <3 I love "The New Style" because it sounds just like the 80's. X)
My second favorite album of theirs is Ill Communication. At first, I was turned off by half of it being instrumentals, but it grew on me. I especially like the southeast Asian influence in some of the songs on it.

I really like how the band has a variety of types of songs--hardcore ones, fun/goofy ones, social/political statement ones, instrumentals, etc. Their lyrics are great, too: "Say doc, what's the condition? I'm a man that's on a mission! Well son then you'd better listen, stuck in your ass is an electrician!" In the album notes, it says, "(Editor's note: How?)" after that line. XD

The movie, Awesome; I F'ing Shot That! is really cool, too. They passed out video cameras to audience members at a Madison Square Garden concert, and combined much of that footage plus some professional footage to make a film of the show. (One dude left the camera on while he took a bathroom break!) Speaking of the MSG, their guest spot on Futurama was cool, too. "I love you guys! Back in the 20th century, I had all five of your albums!" "That was a thousand years ago. Now we have seven."
