Have you ever seen the movie 101 Dalmations? You know Cruella de Ville? She looks like this...
...unless your parents were terrible people, in which case she looks like this...
Anyway, in the original 101 Dalmations movie, one of the human characters is a songwriter and is trying to come up with lyrics for this snappy new melody. Cue his wife's old friend Cruella de Ville visiting, and he's inspired by her name and less than virtuous character to make her the subject of this new song. The song is cute and typical Disney fare, until it gets to the bridge. The lyrics to the bridge are as follows.
"At first you think Cruella is the devil,
But after time has worn away the shock,
You come to realize you've seen her kind of eyes,
Watching you from underneath a rock."
What the hell is that supposed to mean. You're telling me that upon first encountering this woman, she comes off as the incarnation of Satan, the deceiver and prince of lies, but once you get to know her she's really more of some kind of rock-dwelling spy-creature?
Am I supposed to be relieved by this? Thank God! I thought she was the dark lord himself, but it turns out she's really just some troll voyeur. Is it supposed to frighten me? If there's one thing I hate more than the devil, it's people who spy on me from underneath rocks. God! I hate them so much.
So yeah, what's the deal with that?
I don't stop to analyze song lyrics. For once, Srol, you should not analyze this song and keep your memories of how evil is Cruella.
Just remember: the song didn't happen, just like the other new theme songs from old Disney movies.
