I have no idea how active this forum is now, or if it is still active at all, but I'll go ahead and fill in the general public as I don't see any familiar faces anymore. :) There is a punchline at the end of this you can skip to if you don't want to read the backstory, marked after some "------"s

This is Edan Koch, used to be known as Ergon to the community. When Zifei first made his Sonic fan site I was his accomplice in helping beat the compitition. I sequenced midi files (those annoying things which were small enough to be distributed back when a megabite took an hour to transfer,) and through net snooping gave his site the largest Sonic music collection available over the net at the time.

A while later we got a crew together and formed the Sonic HQ. I don't remember much, it was middle school/early high school for me. Vector and WB and Sonic Whammy are the ones I remember clearly. WB and Vector went on to run the site after Zifei left, WB leaving eventually (he's moved on to actually drawing the comics, he sent me a signed copy of the first one he did work on :) ) and sonic whammy bugs me now and again about online game things.

That was a while ago, geez. Now when I come into the MF there isn't a soul who knows who I am when back in time, well... who cares.

POINT:

---------------------------------------

I've been receiving mail from a guy who is making some fun little short film for youtube, and he is using a bunch of sequenced video game midi music for it, mine included. He recently sent me a mail asking if there was a site I'd like him to link to at the end of the video. After some consideration, I thought perhaps SonicHQ would be a fair source to ask him to list.

However, I go to visit Sonichq.org and it was gone!!! I tried many varriants but could find none, nor an explination in the forums. It's possible that it is just down for the moment but.... can someone fill me in?

BTW thank you all for loving Sonic through the trama these new folks have put him through. Finding love for the old True Blue is hard to come by.

Anyhow, can someone educate me about what's going on and hit me up with opinions on the shortfilm?

Site changed servers. I think it's sonichq.mobiusforum.net www.sonic-hq.net, but don't hold me to that. I haven't visited the site in many months (seriously).

And there are so many Sonic-related videos on YouTube that it's impossible to figure out which one you mean from the details supplied. Got a link?

WB isn't drawing the comics anymore, AFAIK. I don't exactly know the circumstances behind why he no longer works for Archie but it's really none of my concern, so. He's been rather active lately, though, so no doubt you'll bump into him. Vector's still around as well, of course, although I can't say as I'm 100% sure what he's up to anymore. I WANT to say EliteBoard, but I can never tell...

Finally, the name "Edan Koch" sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't really figure out why - and I can GUARANTEE you have no clue who I am, so it's all fair game, naturally.

If I had to hazard a guess, it'd be that Dub was a freelancer, and they simply didn't need his talent any longer. Which was a loss for all involved, putting it bluntly.

But I don't know how right-on-the-money I am with this, so. I'm probably way off.

No clue on the leaving. That said, I don't know why they got rid of Axer either.

And welcome back. No matter what Vector is going to tell you, I had nothing to do with the tutu incident.

At least we got Ian representing the fandom now.

On another note, MoFoers have an obsession for tutus, don't they?

Nah, just Rico. No matter what he says, he had everything to do with the tutu incident.

I think Rico'd look cute in a tutu. He looked absolutely divine in that lampshade.

Tutus..... lampshade.... **eyetwitch** DON'T GIVE ME MORE IDEAS O_@

Anyway, welcome back friend! Like some others, I haven't been around nearly as long as you have, but I do like to consider myself an oldbie. ^^ Dubs still visits on occasion, same with Vec. Sonic Whammy even stops (albeit very rarely).

And I'm just the humble little kid who found this place in early 2002 ^^

Welcome, odbied. VERY OLDBIE, in fact. You're the reason why Sonic HQ was even built in the first place, so its great to see one of it's creaters returning.

Anyways, will you be planning on staying here, or did you just get what you came here to get?

EDIT: HTML eludes me, so. 🙁

I stopped getting the sonic comics around 50. They started running character's personas into the ground and doing a lot of half-ars work. Dear WB was the best thing to happen to that comic visually for a long while and... well.... what can I say, I hate the guy who runs the thing.

Great, we have a creator here 😮 That's awesome.

I'm Dl, and no one really says much to me, for fear I'll throw insane non-truths in their face and make valid arguments about it.

Thanks for remembering the pearl you created :O. Always fun to come back and see just what's occuRred since your departure :O Anyway, hope to see ya around-definitely would like to chat with you.

lol @ quit around 50.

I started in at 38, missed Mecha, got back to it for EndGame, and was in up until 168, when I realized the series just wasn't going anywhere.

Good to see you come around this way, Edan.

Yeah, things have changed so much around here, and the problem sometimes is that the world of Sonic has changed SO much from what brought many of us to the dance in the first place that this place is sometimes never about Sonic anymore. Well, the ends may not seem justified, but the means sure are, and they always will.

As for WB, Jon actually lives up in MY neck of the woods now. He's living in East Orange, NJ, which is about... a half-hour from where I am in Saddle Brook. We talk at least once a month now. He's going to school in NY for art school stuff. But yeah, he doesn't do anything for Archie anymore. I'm sure he has his reasons, but I wouldn't be surprised if any of it had anything to do with fallout from the whole Ken/Karl war, cuz it occurred to me that's when he was there.

As a final note, to you, Edan, I apologize that I "bug" you with my stuff about my game shows, playing things online, and whatever. You've known me all these years, it's my way of making company and sharing the good times with others. Heck, that's what I came to do tonight, but the chat rooms were mostly empty. Eh, whaddya do...

But glad to see you around again here, Edan. One day we'll have to educate these guys on how things used to be. If we have the energy, that is.

Don't be a stranger.

Stay Way Past Cool!

Wow luv.

You know you'll always be my bro whammy, I'm just givin ya crap. It was kind of funny how you'd hit me up about doing a game and never get back to me tho >< God I'm now actually capable of writing decent music, I should finish my ode to Sonic already...

I have to ask and forgive my ignorance but... how many people here actually know decently what satam is?

A lot more since the DVD came out, I suspect. Even though it seemed like mostly a fan-inspired release for existing fans, it at least made access easier.

Largely easier. But I'm sure that the people who actually watched the series when it was syndicated are a tad more vocal about it here than the people who "saw one or two eps and needed to DVD" 😮

I definitely haven't seen a member of the post-SatAM/SX generation who's declared themselves a convert to FUS' cause yet - but I still wonder if there're any out there.

Going back to the comments on SatAM and exactly what the post-SatAM generation knows about it, since I just remembered something:

I was hanging around another Sonic forum last week, where someone was trying to find somewhere to buy AoStH, and details of the DVD contents.

Enter forumer of unknown age and location (all spelling and punctuation are is unedited):

"If they are the SatAm series, there is a torrent goin' arround."

Reply: "That is AoStH (Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog), the cartoon that aired before SatAM."

"Mmm, I didn't knew that was a serie before the SatAm.... Interestin'...

Every day you learn something new"

The perils of having a target demographic that's younger than your franchise, eh?

I hope that I don't come across as mocking or elitist. Part of me was just very surprised at an alleged Sonic fan who knew about one series that was before their time but apparently not the others (although I didn't get involved, I wonder if they'd heard of SU, as well), and part of me was suddenly feeling very, very old.

About the SU comment, Sam, it appears that the younger audience knows that show better than the other two. But the problem was that SU wasn't really aired or advertised that much at all. But the problem still in lies the fact that SatAM is pretty much dead, and the whole "target demographic" doesn't make much sense (as pointed out already).

I was referring to the target for the franchise in general, rather than SatAM - and to the idea that it's getting harder for younger fans to have a thorough grounding in the franchise as more and more of it happened before they were born.

aosth... ugh.... ughhhhhhh........... I once sequenced a midi of the intro theme to that show.... I had it stuck in my head for weeks.

Why do you do this to me Samanfur?

Indeed Sam, it's pretty sad when my little cousin says the archie comic is the "coolest sonic thing [he's] seen".

I'll dodge the piece of furniture flying from Ian's direction momentarily, or just use Dubs as a meatshield.

Well, Edan threatened to "hunt me down" if I didn't come and post here in his little remembrance thread. And he can be pretty scary. So here I am, the oldest oldie on this board probably...

Actually, no, it was some one time poster who posted first. Something something fox dude. Anyway, glad this place is still going strong. Just stopping by to say hi.

HA, my plan was a success! Zifei Wu actually posted in his own birthed forum. I had to twist his arm a bit yesterday to get him to...

and @ Jinsoku, yes Dubs did send me a signed copy. There was a point of time when we were all tight around here. Now they all have gone on with their lives (except for me, lol@life). Vec is the only one still around it seems, wonder how he got up the nerve.

You say that as if I were out of the loop.

Granted, I wasn't there at the beginning, but I'll be damned if I didn't see this place grow, either. I remember visiting this som'ma'ma biznitch when parts of it were on Geocities, (or one of them hosting places).

I try to keep in contact with Jon the Dubzie McGee as much as I can, but with his computer-lacking-woes, it's almost impossible to get a-hold of him. In fact, I swear it's been over a year since we've had an actual full-blown conversation.

...

And that makes me sad. Promises of phone calls and a signed copy of his first ish, gone. :(

Oh well... he used my PiE in his comic.X3

Edit: STUPID PLAIN TEXT DEFAULT!!! AUGH *kick*

No offense meant laddy, my memory is something like that of a dead cows. I do remember though, that we used to have this lass who I thought was a great artist, and I never got up the nerve to ask her to draw something for me :( Had some red hedgehog character.... though I'm sure you've got a surplus of good artists now :)

Wark tired.
