League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It's actually quite a fun movie if you ignore the graphic novel and stop questioning how Nemo got the Nautilus into Venice.

arachnophobia. hah, remember the times when people believed that there were spiders with human intellect in the amazon that could breed with garden spiders to make an incredibly deadly spider that kills you a few seconds after it bites you? good times, good times.

The Royal Tenebaums (Hope I spelled that right) I looooooooooove this movie. Easily the best movie they play on Comedy Central. A close 2nd is The Jerk, Steve Martin's funniest movie that wasn't rated R.

Hulk VS Wolverine, a short animated movie that acts as a prequel to the very worth watching Wolverine and the X-Men. So far it's the best of the animated Marvel movies in all respects, best plot, best voice acting, best animation, best art, best action. One problem I have though is that it's excessively gory, and somewhat unnerving because of it too.

Next will be Hulk vs Thor, which I hope will be even better.

Saw some weird kids film by Luc Besson last week called Arthur and the Invisibles. It was okay at best, I've seen the same story done 100 times before with better plot, more excitement and less Freddie Highmore.

Did it seem to you like every line in the CG side of that film was sped up somehow? Like, they were rushing the lines or something? I think it's a dub of a french film, so that may be why.

Anyhow, I saw an independent film on Youtube (it was feature length) called America @ 10 MPH or something about some guys who ride coast to coast on a Segway. It was pretty entertaining, and they met some interesting people in all the little towns they went thru.

And now I've watched Hulk VS Thor. It has a pretty similar plot to Hulk VS Wolverine but what do you expect. Otherwise it's just as good, though I prefer it, partly because I prefer Thor to Wolverine, both as a character and as an opponent to Hulk, partly because I love mythology, and partly because it's not excessively gory. There's still some gore here and there, but only where it's needed.

So yeah, Marvel, great job, more animated movies like this please. Here hoping the Thor animation later this year shows that.

Haha I totally want to see those too. They look amazing. As for me...I saw Underworld 3 today. Oh my gosh! It was wonderful. Like...the best one of the series I think. Don't remember the first too well and the 2nd was awesome...would've been better if we could've seen Kate Beckinsale's goods. *slapped*

Wow... it has been weeks since I last watched an actual movie 8O...

Completed watching Firefly with my parents. I thought it was kind of an iffy show to get my parents to watch, but I was wrong . Even mom, who is not a sci-fi nut in the least was hooked =D. We finished up the series last night and watched Serenity tonight.

I must say the the movie is the most satisfying unsatisfying movie I have ever seen. Part of me yearns for more tales from the Serenity and its crew. Joss did such a wonderful job crafting the saga that for me it's hard to get enough of it to be satisfied. The movie does a wonderful job of continuing the story of Mal and his Crew and I don't know of any way it could have been improved. That said, I HATE how it ended, or to be specific how some of the character arcs ended. Part of me wants Joss to for ever leave the series to rest...

as an aside, what's with the change to the topic??? What is this about "non-current movies"?

I watched Wall-E on Blu-Ray.

"What is this about "non-current movies"?"

Unless I am wrong, it refers to movies not still in theatres.

Yea I saw that too. But I mean...why not current movies? Is there another topic for current movies somewhere? *looks around*

The thread title changed about a week or two ago. Beats me why. Um, I think mine was probably a rerun of Ice Age on ITV2 a few weeks ago.

It was probably a half-hearted attempt the curb some "bad spam" this thread has the potential to create, or maybe because of spoilers. I'd ignore it if I'd seen a recent movie.

GROUNDHOG DAY!

of course, what else would I watch on Feb 2nd?

I actually had to watch it for a Theology class back in high school. It is interesting to note that the director has received letters from many different people... even Buddhist monks, praising the movie and its lessons on how one should live their life. and besides that, Bill Murray is awesome =)

Think of everything he accomplished in that movie. He learned how to play the piano. He learned how to ice sculpt. He read every book in the library. If you think about it, he probably spent over a hundred years in that loop.

I introduced someone to my Flight of Dragons bootleg over the weekend, and even after over twenty years, it still never gets old. Deceptively big themes and enough respect for its audience to let them figure out for themselves what's happening off camera.

And James Earl Jones as the villain. What's not to like?

Am contemplating cosplaying as Danielle sometime. For a LRPer, the costume's easy enough to come by - I'd just need a decent wig...

Friday = The Matrix. Plato's Allegory of the Cave with GUNS? Hell yes, still one of my favorite movies of all time.

Saturday = Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Seriously not as funny as it could have been... Almost all of the good parts were in the trailer =( For once I was disappointed with a Kevin Smith movie. Also DAMN YOU SETH ROGAN. I blame him for insisting "Miri" stay dressed in the movie... Elizabeth Banks would have turned this into an awesome, totally worth it movie =( DAMN YOU!!!

I also tried to watch TRON... Got maybe 15 minutes in before I had to turn it off. It just wasn't interesting in my opinion. That said it was weird hearing the voice of "The Dude" coming out of such a young person O.o

Tonight I watched Nick & Norah's Infinite Play list. Wasn't a great movie either, but it kept me entertained enough to ensure I'd watch it through to the end.

For the first time in what seems like an awfully long time, I went to the cinema. As such, I'm going to ignore the editted title of this thread and carry on.

I saw "Bolt". It was good, if not "Monsters Inc" standard. But is it just me? Or if a little girl is named Penny, and she has a dog, shouldn't the dog's name be Brain? And shouldn't he spend most of his time keeping a certain police inspector out of trouble and only a small amount of time keeping Penny safe?

Nice homages to The Incredible Journey / Homeward Bound (pick which version you like best) and what appeared to be an off-screen cameo from BA Baracus. Alas he didn't appear to be calling Murdock a fool. The three New York pigeons were, of course, homages to Goodfellas and in no way derived from Animaniacs' Goodfeathers The producer appeared to be channelling Hades at one point; I sort of expected his hair to burst into blue flame, but alas no.

There was also a short with the Cars guys, whose credits intrigued me by giving special thanks to Steve Purcell, among others. I wonder whether that was the same Mr Purcell who gave Sam & Max: Freelance Police to the world?

Just saw TMNT on DVD for the first time in months. I still think it's a genuinely enjoyable film.

One nice touch in Bolt for me was the way that we never get to find out if Penny is even the girl's real name (even the adults on set always refer to her as "sweetheart" or "honey" or talk to her mother about "your daughter"), or just another part of the fiction that Bolt was living in. By the end, it didn't matter.

Saw Slumdog Millionaire on Saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's rare that a feelgood film actually works for me or that a story gets 'round my analytical side, but I was actually caring about what was going to happen and wondering where it was going to go by the end.

I myself have just recently seen a 70s action film with Roger Moore and a few other classic actors called "The Wild Geese" Good little mercenary action movie. I mainly wanted to check it out since they were the inspiration for the Wild Geese in Hellsing. XD

I also saw a great movie called "The Duelists" also made in the 70s about two men in the French military during the days of Napoleon trying to duel one another countless time throughout a long amount of time. Some of the most beautiful cinematography and settings I've ever seen.

"The Hurricane", the story of Rubin Carter, with Denzel Washington. Good film, some deep insights into the evils of racism, and what prison does to a man, and how Carter rose above it. It seems to lean toward the conclusion that he did not commit the crime with which he is charged, like the Bob Dylan song, while in real life he was not released on proof he didn't, but with proof that his trial was unfair, so technically it's still a mystery whether or not a guilty man was released from a life sentence, or an innocent man was put in prison for thirty years for no reason beyond the color of his skin.

I saw The Girl that Leapt Through Time a few nights back. Really good film, I liked the way Makoto was portrayed, with all of her flaws. I like her personality as well. I'm still a bit curious as to just how far Chiaki lives in the future, but it's supposed to give you that feeling, I think.

Saw Coraline in the movie theaters, and I liked it, but to me, it felt like the movie needed more time to develop the characters themselves, especially in the case of Y.B.

Last movie I saw in the movies: The Wickerman
Last movie I watched on DVD: Singin' in the Rain
Last movie I watched on my computer: Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea

The Wickerman totally sucked, but I heard that's the reason why it is a cult favorite. Singin' in the Rain is always good, Gene Kelly is the man. And I like anime, especially Ghibli films, so there you have it.

I saw The Poseidon Adventure (the 70's one) on Fox Movie Channel the other day. My Oceanography teacher mentioned that movie a few times when we talked about rogue waves and tsunamis during class. The guys on deck could see the wave coming toward them from a bit away, and in real life, a rogue wave doesn't last long enough for that to happen. They mentioned an underwater earthquake....if it were a tsunami, it'd pass under them unnoticed because those don't get high until they reach shallow water. Well, it was still a natural disaster movie that I still enjoyed watching. There's got to be a morning after...

I watched Prince Caspian on DVD yesterday. Disney made the mistake of releasing this between Iron Man and Indiana Jones, and it didn't bring in the dough that Lion/Witch/Wardrobe did. In fact, they've dropped out of the in-production Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Walden Media had to find another partner for that.
Well, it was a good movie, very pretty to watch. The slight Susan/Caspian fling was unnecessary, though. =/

Seriously? Man, Disney sucks. Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the best book too. I agree with the Susan and Caspian thing too; didn't like that at all.

I watched the Street Fighter IV animated movie, The Ties that Bind, earlier today, it being the fourth animated Street Fighter movie too is quite fitting.

It's pretty good, the animation is decent and the art style is consistent. Cammy getting a lot of screen time is a major plus.

While the I credit the art style and animation, neither are as good as Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, and there's much more focus on story, which is rather over complicated and far too much talking. A real sense of 'Shut up and hit someone' syndrome that the Alpha movies have. Unlike the Alpha movies, though, there are plenty of characters from the games, including side characters such as Eliza, and the fight scenes are much clearer.

So yeah, second best SF movie to date, just too talkie and not enough action.

Incidentally this movie acts as a prequel to SFIV, much like SFII: The Animated Movie was a prequel to SFII, which in turn inspired the Alpha series. This also makes The Ties That Bind the first Street Fighter movie set after Street Fighter II.

Friday I went to see Dark Knight at the IMAX. God damn that movie is still awesome =D. So pretty too. The ferry scene always sends chills up my spine. In my opinion it out trumps the Pencil Trick as the best scene in the movie.

Tonight I watched Pan's Labyrinth for the first time. Holy crap, nothing like what I was expecting. Such a sad movie =(. Beautifully done though. I didn't realize it was totally in spanish.

Saw Hancock, words can not describe how much I hated this film. From it's "WTF" storyline to the fact that they decided to take ideas from popular comic books and crap all over them. This movie deserves to go in Will Smith's crap collection next to "Wild Wild West" and "Men in Black 2."

After reading Swanson's comment on MIBII being in the same league as WWW & Hancock, I decided to rewatch the movie. I bought it in September but never had the chance to see it.

I laughed. It has the same charm as MIB. Just a plain old, no thinking involved, action comedy movie. I can't see any reason to compare it to those other two films D:

EDIT: Just got back from Watchmen at the IMAX.

Won't post any spoilers, since I don't feel like figuring out the code, but I'd say all in all it was a pretty awesome movie. Story wasn't changed too dramatically, all the important things were present. We all knew the ending was going to be different, but it wasn't as bad as I was thinking.

Sure, everyone is going to moan about how it should have been split up to allow more character building and such. Still, I think Hayter and Zach did a wonderful job of adapting the movie. I'd say there was about the same loss between Watchmen and the Lord of the Rings films.

EDIT DOS: Really... no one has seen any movies? Come on people.

Just watched Die Hard for the first time tonight (yeah, I saw 4.0 before any of the others). Pretty awesome . Yay explosions and action action action. Had to laugh at him lighting a cig in the airport... and then gas in LA being $0.73 XD

Friday Night Saw Watchmen: Pretty good movie, Rorshaq is awsome as always' and this is one of the most close to comic adaptions ive seen so far! I give it a 7/10 the movie was good, but the music wasn't so great.

Saturday night: Watched 5 centimeters per second. The most Tedious Anime film of all time, This thing had enough Narration in it to put Morgen Freeman to sleep. But I have to say the Animation itsself was beutiful and the voice acting was pretty good. Hated the ending though.

Today. I watched part of Pearl Harbor & the last 10 minuts of barnyard. I plan to watch Naussica or Bleach: Memories of a Nobody later if I can find enough spare time between chores.

This topic can be kind of like a posting game at times, and when people do analyze there are rarely many responses. I think movies are a prime source of discussion so it can be preferable to create topics about them if they are likely to evoke discussion. There are only 5 responses to people's comments in the last page and I use a very large page size.

The topic is "what movie did you see last", not "let's analyze every movie everyone posts"

I wholeheartedly believe the board would benefit from movie discussion, but it doesn't have to be in this thread. Hell, I'll go ahead and post my own Watchmen discussion topic, if it'll help (I've been trying not to let my fangirling get the best of me :3) Also, posting games aren't a bad thing. In fact, I feel they're quite fun and this kind in particular is a way to toot our own horn in a place where it's acceptable. Srsly.

This is still my topic, last I recall.

I created it to coincide with my 365 challenge, for when I was watching new movies on a daily basis. It was never intended to be "I saw Dark Knight. It was good." but I don't have hang ups on people doing that. If they feel like announcing they saw a movie, COOL. If someone I talk to on IM says "I just saw Dark Knight", bam, I can talk to them about it.

Now, if you feel like someone makes a decent length discussion post on Watchmen (say if I C&Ped the one in my journal) in this thread, feel free to copy it to a new topic so we can have discussion.

But I will not allow you, admin or no, to pervert my thread because it doesn't fit in with your idea of what MFC should be used for. ESPECIALLY without asking my permission.

You can't force people to discuss movies, Vec. Let it grow naturally, don't try to artificially create it.

Honestly, this and "What'cha playin'?" are the only reasons why I still come here.

I've got nothing against posting games. However since this started there has been virtually nothing about movies on the whole board, while before it started there was quite a bit. The problem isn't people saying, "I saw Dark Knight. It was good." which is ok, but that that it has replaced anything else.

So, if people are doing analysis in other places it would be great if they could copy them to the MoFo, and maybe we could respond to those. I can't do a lot of this since I usually go to movies way after they release.

While Tolkien went to an astounding amount of depth, the movie itself is both spectacularly good and a demonstration of the power of style over making sense.
