Another anime this time from the director of Perfect Blue. Paprika.

It's...going to need another watch. It's an incredible experience of a movie, though very confusing, which considering the context involves dreams merging, it's a perfect fit.

Another watch, maybe a third too.

Just got back from seeing Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. Was incredibly awesome. And quotable. Now to hunt down the graphic novels and give them a read.

I finally caved and watched the A-Team. Average-to-good action movie, just not quite the A-Team. Murdock was great, but Hannibal didn't appear to be on the jazz and Face wouldn't shut up about his ex - oh, and BA has appalling taste in music, although great taste in vans

The director was under the impression that his audience was either a) not paying attention or b) stupid - there was a number of times where the film flash-backed to itself, in fact to scenes that had happened all of 10 or 15 minutes previously. Without being too spoilerish, I *get* why Face is calling on that particular mobile! I got the point of the three shipping containers immediately! Just because I like action movies doesn't make me thick as two short planks, Hollywood!

Enjoyable enough, but I'll stick with the originals - even series 5...

Watched Disney's The Princess and the Frog in London on Friday night, and I've got to say I really enjoyed it. The animation and art is beautiful and the music and setting brings a lot of life into what could have easily been the typical fairy tale story.

Speaking of the story it brings a lot of new moral ideas into a Disney movie, and with the 1920s New Orleans setting the atmosphere feels much fresher, what's more the lead character Tiana is probably the most likeble character in Disney's roster, and considering I found all of the characters in this movie to be very likeble I'd say that's an impressive feat. Also the villain kicks ass, mainly for his voice and song.

So yeah, if you're a fan of 2D animation and miss old Disney then watch this, I doubt you'll be disappointed. Also good if you love old school jazz.

Watched The Other Guys last night, I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Will Ferrel wasn't as insanely over-the-top as he has been in the last couple of movies. All around it was a slightly above average movie.

Huh, I've seem to be behind in my movie reporting...

Last week I watched Men In Black 1 & 2 with my sibblings. IIRC MIB was the first PG-13 movie I saw. Both are still awesome. I did a double take when I saw the dude at the morgue... Didn't realize Mr Tobias Fünke himself, David Cross had a role in the series .

Last Monday I went to see The Other Guys. I agree with Swanson, I was also surprised how much I enjoyed it. Ms. Mendes isn't too hard on the eyes either. My only disappointment was the film needed more Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L Jackson. "DID SOMEONE CALL 9 1 - HOLY #@!$!"

I also watched Serenity again last week. Probably one of my favorite Sci-Fi movies. Whedon is amazing, with the way he chooses his cast and the dialog and hell, the general vibe his works give off. Definitely makes me excited for the Avengers movie . Oh, and if you haven't watched Firefly, go to Hulu and start watching it right now. Far and away my favorite TV series. Yet another great series canceled by Fox.

Firefly: Somewhat interesting story, hit or miss on the characters (Can't stand 75 percent of the crew), cringeworthy dialogue at times but the music to it is awesome. It borders on too grim and depressing for me to keep watching it but it seems decent.

But hey, I'm not a fan of Whedon's work so take this with a grain of salt.

3 movies and a TV series...

Scott Pilgrim: My thoughts are in the SP thread but yea, a stupidly funny movie. I somehow got most of the videogame references, even if I only grew up with a Sega as a kid, lol.

Mary Poppins: Haven't seen this film since I was young but now that I have, it reminds me where I get these various sayings or the other random jigs I'm prone to dancing to...when alone. Compared to SP, this movie holds up very well, even with Dick Van Dyke's silly accent (Which he can do all he wants as long as it keeps Step in Time awesome). And I don't know how Mary Poppins pronounces supercalif--backwards like that but darnit, I'll learn!

Eureka Seven: Good night Sweet Lovers-Meh, love the TV series but the movie was too hectic for my tastes.

Magic School Bus: Hey, I remember reading the books before the show even came out! I can't learn a single thing from this show but I still find all the episodes terribly entertaining. I attribute it to nostalgia factor or maybe just the fact that sometimes I like my stuff simple and easy to understand. Too bad you can't buy the entire series online, ugh.

Now I need to watch Princess and the Frog.

Finally got around to seeing it. If you aren't sure what my antecedent is there...allow me to clarify. My most anticipated movie of the year. Still not sure? *burst in through the roof* "Mr Pilgrim!!!" My.Gosh. Mr. Wright and Mr. O'Malley are my heroes. No joke. I was way more pleased with that movie than I would've ever though. I'm planning on going next weekend to see that movie again. And possibly even the weekend after. This movie is sure to be my first Blu-Ray purchase. No doubt. The special features have the potential to be mind-blowing. Looking past all of the geek/gamer/hipster culture references of the movie...the story itself was presented fairly well and the characters were fantastic. Kim Pine = The Greatness. Knives = My new love. Wallace = Hilarious. Stephen Stills = All of my best friends rolled into one body. Scott = Me[minus the gfs part]. 😛 Honestly...I can't put into words how happy that movie made me. A special place in my heart is now forever lit. For those of yolu sitting on the fence about going to see this...I highly encourage you give it a go. If not only for Matthew Patel and his Naruto goodness. xD!

Oh and Knives' emoticon face is probably the best thing i've seen in a movie...ever. o.o

Oh and it saddens me that the Princess and the Frog didn't make more money. Animation had to be up there with some of the best animated Disney films.

And I can never look at those African wooden masks in my relatives' homes the same way anymore.

Watched The Expendables on Friday evening. It kicked ass!

It was a bad movie, no doubt about that, but it's still awesome, with lots of dumb fun.

However, every time the action ends and people start talking the movie dies.

But yeah, lot's of fun.

Also watched Batman: Under the Red Hood, it's really good, but I prefer Wonder Woman and Crisis on Two Earths so far. Still, it's worth a watch.

UPDATE:

Watched Toy Story 3 today...I can't really add much to what has already been said.  It didn't make me cry, but it came close.  Great film.

I only just discovered the existence of Under the Red Hood (thank you, Total Film).  I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

This weekend was a rewatch of Sherlock Holmes.  A trip to the cinema for the Sorcerer's Apprentice (Nic Cage channelling Harry Dresden and live action mops, what more could I want?), plus A Tale of Two Sisters on DVD.  Thank heavens for Google, my friend and I were somewhat confused as to what all had been happening in that film.  Anyone who thought Inception was mildly tricky (an opinion I could never understand anyhow) has clearly never tried A Tale of Two Sisters...

Anyone know if The Uninvited (remake) made it any clearer?  Although I think that my friend and I have eventually got pretty much everything that was going on (mind you, I still think every single member of that family has serious issues).

I saw Eat Pray Love. It was nice, and Julia Roberts was much better in it than she was in Duplicity.

Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland

I don't know what to make of this movie...the plot didn't seem all that original but I still liked it. The only really memorable character had to be Flip, who just loved to cause as much trouble as possible. The confrontation between Nemo and the Nightmare King was a bit exciting, even if you knew the outcome before it even happened. Still an intimidating individual and if I had seen this film as a kid, I know I would have been a little scared of him.

I also saw The Expendables and would also like to say it's pretty friggin' sweet. I don't see many movies, but when one has Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold LastnameI'mnotevengonnatrytospell, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and Gary Daniels, well, I think it warrants a look. It also features 2 other athletes-turned-actors I never heard of and Mickey Rourke, who I can only remember as Marv and the Guy With A Chihuahua From Once Upon A Time In Mexico. Yep, it's not an intelligent movie (certainly NOTHING that comes out of Dolph's mouth is. I don't think he even spoke 2 consecutive sentences) but to answer a question asked in this very forum awhile ago, no, a movie does NOT need to stimulate your brain in any meaningful way to be fun.

I was a little disappointed about Arnold and Bruce only having cameos. However, I suppose Bruce is a bit out of these guys' league anyway. On a side note, I gotta say he cuts a weird visage in his scene. Guess getting old will do that to ya.  Supposedly, Stallone's already interested in a sequel and he wants more Willis. If you saw Rambo (as in #4) then you have an idea what to expect here. It's hella bloody, with the occasional obliteration of an upper torso or flying limbs. Surprisingly few swears though. I remember reading the rating: "some language" and wondering what's 'some' mean?

I think I need to go see Machete. If it's anything like Desperado or Once Upon A Time In Mexico, count me in!

Just finished watching Date Night. When I first saw the trailer, I was kinda interested, but never got around to seeing it. Glad I didn't waste the money. It's a pretty forgettable movie, few laughs here and there but nothing great... I think I would have been way better off watching 2 more episodes of Veronica Mars then this movie.

The Town. I really really liked this movie. The plot and everything were pretty good. Characters were well done and heist scenes were really entertaining. Loved the nun robbery scene. I just pretty much love that nun costume in general.

Watched 2012 last night, and it couldn't have been over sooner. Poor acting, ridiculous, death-defying stunts (and not in the good way), and a totally nonsensical plot. I just want to watch Scott Pilgrim again...

Can't argue that.

Just bought Prince of Persia on dvd, watched it yesterday morning. It was nice to see a movie staying so close to the source material. The characters could have been fleshed out more, but all in all, it was a good one.

Back to the Future, in the cinema - heaven!

Went with 5 friends, one of whom had never seen it, one of whom had seen it once and probably none of whom have seen it as many times as me Great fun, many laughs and, regardless of what one of my friends says, I still hold that the soundtrack rocks (as does the one to Ghostbusters - the guy knows nothing, I tell you!).

I want a DeLorean now - even though I know they spend more time at the side of the road or in the garage than your average Alfa Romeo. I still don't quite believe DMC said "Sure, have our steel car made in Belfast, and then show how often it fails catastrophically to start for you!" Never let it be said that there is no truth in advertising...

Survival Of The Dead. I liked it. It seems to me that the even installments are better than the odd ones: Dawn; Land; Survival. Not that the others are bad. Night is of course the first, and was done on a shoestring budget. Diary was also good (although maybe I should re-watch it because I can't really remember) but I didn't like the whole amateur documentary feel (artistic yes, but not the way I wanna watch a movie) and the lacking budget. Now, Day was a disappointment (made worse because it came after Dawn) because it just plain lacked action. When I watch a zombie movie, I kinda expect more than one zombie to die within the first hour-thirty or so.

Not much point in a review. It's a zombie movie made by George Romero. It's just like any of the others he's made. Gore, social commentary, and  humor sprinkled liberally throughout the film. 'Nuff said. You pretty much know already if you're gonna like it.

I just watched Space Jam. In my defence, it's because I just ran out of Duck Dodgers to watch and needed a Daffy fix; in my prosecution, I could always have watched the Looney Tunes Golden Collection volume 4 that's sitting on my shelf...

Actually, Daffy & Bugs are poifect; shame about the plot and the whole basketball thing. Oh, and don't get me started on Lola...

La la la la lola... was *not* in the second picture I watched - Looney Tunes: Back In Action. OK, so not Timothy Dalton's finest work. Or Brendan Fraser's. Or Ron Perlman's. Jenna Elfman? No idea, never seen her in anything else. Again, though, Bugs & Daffy = win. Joe Alaskey is my Daffy of choice, in Mel Blanc's absence. Lots of nice one-liners, love the opening with a variation on a theme of Rabbit Fire / Duck, Rabbit, Duck / Rabbit Seasoning (more new & interesting ways that Daffy can get his beak mangled), clips from other classic cartoons and lots of action on the WB backlot. All that was missing was for the Warner Brothers & Warner Sister to come crashing out of that water tower...

I went to see 'Back to the Future' on the big screen on Friday. I think I've only ever watched the whole film all the way through once before, which is odd. Anyways, seeing it on the big screen was awesome. They did an excellent job of cleaning up the picture. Aside from the very 1980's special effects (which aren't bad, really) and the very outdated (but classic) sound effects (the AK-47 being the most obvious example), it felt as if it had been filmed recently.

Watched 2 movies tonight. First was the new Superman/Batman... Freaking awesome. Daly, Conroy, and Ms Glau have such great voices. Definitely did not see the ending coming.

Also watched Get Him To the Greek. Not as funny as I would have hoped, but better than most had said.

Satoshi Kon's second movie, Millenium Actress.

As with Perfect Blue and Paprika, watch it.

I can't believe I put this one off for so long, it's such a beautiful, fun, and touching movie that I don't want to say too much. But to give a brief set up, the plot is about a fictional retired actress who recounts her life in the early and mid 20th century chasing after her first love.

Now I need to get Tokyo Godfathers, get and rewatch Perfect Blue(it's been years), and get his series Paranoia Agents. Here's hoping the Dream Machine happens too, despite Kon's untimely death.

Just watched EVIL DEAD for the first time. Actually, as far as I can remember it is the first true horror film I've watched. Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead don't count.

I only watched it because of Bruce Campbell... Got hooked on Burn Notice over the summer ... oh and I saw the trailer for Army of Darkness and figured I should see the other 2 movies before hand. I was never really scarred during the movie, the corny 80s blood and gore were more funny than anything. The movie definitely didn't leave me wanting to go out and watch more horror movies, but that said I will continue with ED2 sometime this week.

Saw The Social Network, I was surprised at how good the movie ended up being, it didn't get overly sappy or try to convince the viewer that Zuckerburg is some technology god who deserves our praise. They gave credit to both cases and really made it feel authentic. 4.5 out of 5 for me.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 1

I won't spoil the plot for anyone, a plot I really don't comprehend that well since I don't like the books or most of the movies but I thought it was very well done. I hate how it ends just at the point where things really seem to get interesting but oh well. Also a bit saddened at some of the people who bit it, they already killed a favorite of mine in the first part but as long as they don't kill another one of my characters I like (Luna), I'll be happy.

Also is it wrong that I don't find Lord Voldemort a very scart guy? He makes me want to laugh.

"I can't bring people back from the dead. It's not a pretty picture! I don't like doing it!" But I'll see about resurrecting this thread.

Yes, I watched Disney's Aladdin this afternoon - it was on Channel Five, but I was catching up with NCIS at the time so put on the DVD. I had forgotten exactly how much I loved Iago - he has to be my favourite character in the film, bar none (even Genie).

"Then we drop Poppa in law and the little woman off a cliff. Neeeeeeeeowm kersplat!"

Having started as I meant to go along, I then watched Return of Jafar. More Iago, yay! Later this week I'll watch King of Thieves, which I haven't seen since I first bought the trilogy years ago.

Previous films included Harry Potter (good and, although I haven't read the book in years, not too much seemed to be changed, albeit Bellatrix's role seemed to be beefed up - but who would want to waste a performance like Helena Bonham-Carter's?) and Voyage of the Dawn Treader - never read it, so I had no preconceptions. I found it fun and possibly more so than Prince Caspian. Is it me, or is Caspian channelling both Legolas and Aragorn?

3 movies!

Black Dynamite - A great parody of Blaxplotiation films, in the vein of Airplane! and Naked Gun, it's ridiculous and yet almost always entertaining. See it only if you can tolerate ridiculous parodies.

Barton Fink - I have yet to see a bad Coen Bros. film, and Barton Fink was anything but. A thought provoking movie with tons of different themes and messages converging to one point. Also it has John Goodman in probably his best role ever (well not exactly, that honor goes to Walter Sobchek but this was close.) Great movie, I recommend seeing it.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - Another great movie, Bill Murray and Owen Wilson at their best. Like most Wes Anderson films the resolution comes a bit too fast and the deadpan style of comedy might not be for everyone but I loved it, plus it has Jeff Goldblum, that's an automatic win!
