World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that today Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home. There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.
Tonights Raw on USA Network will serve as a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family. WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit familys relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy.
Unlike what happened a couple of weeks ago, this is news that I find VERY sad. I had a lot of respect for Benoit, and it's even more disheartening to hear that his family were taken as well.
I hope people don't assume that this is all a joke, considering what happened with Vince, then this happens right after.
I found out about this when RAW started. Can't believe Chris and his wife and son are dead.
Good bye Wolverine . You were one of the greatest
I don't watch wrestling much anymore, but I freaked out when I heard about this. He was one of my favorite wrestlers ever. =(
Very sad news.
This is to me, being a wrestling fan for about 20 years is a very sad moment and very shocking.
I'd heard that Chris was a no-show at the recent house shows and last night's PPV because of a family emerency, but I had no idea this would happen.
And let me tell you all something, for many years people would critcize the entertainment and storytelling of Wrestling, but not realize that at times the wrestlers involved in those stories would go on to have great matches that centered around them, and that's what Benoit did the many times he would be involved in some of the most converstional and unsual storylines, he would stick with it and then when it came time to do a match that centered around it, he would go out there and give you a match you as a fan would never forget.
And it didn't matter if his oppenet was just starting out, was just there for the enterainment value or was as good as he was, he would always find a way to bring out the very best they would have to offer, and you would see that in their facial expressions, as if they themselves were shock at the fact they could do moves and holds they didn't know they had, and that was all thanks to Chris Benoit.
You know for me, being a Benoit fan, seeing him perform live in person for the first time back in 1998 when he was still a part of WCW, was a thrill, cause I got to see him show what he could do. Then a few years later to see contuine that in WWE as the World Champion was just as good if not better.
But the one moment I will never forget was June 2005, WWE was having a month long draft lottery and just 24hrs poir to going the Smackdown taping live in Kemper Arena, I saw John Cena drafted to RAW, and I was disspointed because he was advisted to be there and I was looking forward to it, but that dissapointment was short lived when Chris Benoit was introduced as Smackdown's first daft pick and I'll never forget my dad who had been watching Benoit for 6-8 years and respected the fact that he knew Benoit was more Real Wrestler then showmen, told me that that's a good pick for Smackdown and I couldn't have agreeed more.
The funny thing about this is, my family says I'm the biggest Wrestling fan in our entire family on both sides and the biggest Hulk Hogan fan there is.
Well true Hulk got me to be a fan of the enterainment part of it, but above all else It was Benoit who got me to like the true Wrestling/athletic part of it and for that I will always be grateful.
Chris we love you and we will miss you, God truly has gotten a real soilder in you. and your Family. GOD BLESS FOREVER!
First, Eddie, and now Benoit? D=
While the news upsets me to say the least, is anyone is else REALLY concerned that both Benoit AND his family were found dead in their home?
Something really f****ed up is going on here.
My father told me today they were saying it was a murder-suicide. I'm hoping that wasn't the case.

BS. Chris love his family. I really doubt he would do something like that.

Who knows what was going on. IF he did it, he could of had depression or other mental issues. And this is ashame. Not too many of your "classic" (to me, wrestlers from the 80s and even early 90s) left.
I'm really sad at this. Seriously, I clicked on this link hoping it was a sick WWE angle.
I just hope it isn't a double murder, suicide.
I'd first heard about it yesterday when my brother got back from work. I was a bit shocked at first, but when it sank in, I started to find it pretty saddening.
Like everyone else said, I hope it isn't a murder/suicide.
I can't get this thought out of my head: If it WAS a double murder-suicide, could the kid have been playing with a gun? It's possible, and I hope to god that didn't happen. Just some input >__>
He apparently strangled his wife and smothered his son. They believe its possible it was in a steroid driven rage.
Sources for this information would be appreciated.
I'm guessing it is a rumor atm @ Terg
Either way, it is sad. Never watched wrestling though.
Official causes of the Beniot family death.
(Warning, you need good ad blockers or use a better website for this info)
Well @#%$.
I am truly saddened by what has been revealed. A man has killed his family while (it seems) high on steroids and then committed suicide.
Nothing anyone can say will make this better but we can hope that lessons are learned and something like this will never happen again.
S**t.
I can't believe he did that. I always thought he was above that.
This....is very disturbing, disheartening, and sad. I thought he would be better than that. ;_;
Rey Mysterio, Chris' best friend... he has now lost two friends in the past three years. I still miss Eddie Guerrero, but I can't believe Chris' life ended this way.
On the one hand, I feel really bad because he was one of the greatest professional wrestlers I've ever seen and I was a huge fan of him. On the other, I'm incredibly disgusted that he would do something like this.
I just...don't know what to think.
. . .
Very sad to hear. I'm not a wrestling fan myself, but I work many wrestling fans. I was working overnight after I heard, both my coworkers were upset at the news. Anytime we tried listening to the news while at work for details, they had a few hour block on Paris Hilton getting out of jail without a word of this.
I know I'll catch flak for saying it, but it doesn't surprise me in the least that this happened. The fact that roid rage was the cause of all this, the initial reaction of the WWE to the official cause of death (It wasn't steroids, honest! Benoit was just coldblooded and heartless! We don't do steroids here!) is as surprising as tobacco causing lung cancer. Everyone knows what's going to happen, but the bottom line is always going to be the buck. Protecting athletes (of course, for the WWE I use this term somewhat loosely, no offense to fans) is second to fleecing as much money as one can from the fans.
One only needs to look at the BALCO hearings, the Albany-Florida online drug store sting (which has implicated everyone from Kurt Angle to Jason Giambi) and now this current string of steroid deaths (after all, Eddie Guererro died of an overdose) to see that steroid use isn't just limited to bodybuilders and wrestlers - it's almost everywhere. Kids in elementary school use it, because they want to win at all costs, and winning gives a person money, fame, and power. Athletes want an edge, and steroids give that edge, even if the long-term effects can be damaging and even horrifying.
It's a pervasive problem all through sports and through all ages, and what makes it worse is that the disintegration and death of the Benoit family will ultimately probably change nothing. Obviously Guererro's death didn't move Benoit, who was supposedly friends with him, to stop, did it? No. Because there's no money in stopping it and letting yourself shrink down to a relatively normal size, especially when you are competing against others who are encouraged to take roids - and anyone who thinks that WWE doesn't encourage it is deluding themselves - the money's in looking the part and fake-knocking the stuffing out of your opponent in front of your adoring fans. Who cares if it screw up your mind and body when you're earning millions of dollars for it? The shallowness of the logic scares me, knowing that there are few - if any - professional wrestlers who don't take the juice and yet we support it.
But what really, really upsets me the most is people saying he was "above" steroid usage - especially when evidence shows that Benoit gave his steroids to his kid. It wasn't enough that he had to look the part and pump himself up with body-wrecking drugs, he considered his son puny and undersized and had him undergo the needle as well. Some family man.
Rico, if supreme master magi and others get told off for posting nothing but a single ellipsis in a thread, you shouldn't then do it yourself. For consistency's sake if nothing else.
On a slight side note Cooki: Guerrero's death was caused the after effects of his long term steroid abuse. He was clean for a couple of years. It turned out if he had a check up at the doctors he might still be with us.

But yeah, I do agree with you on this. WWE do need to do more than what they are doing to protect its employees. I mean I remember either WWE or a columnist saying WWE can't have another Eddie Guerrero. WWE definatley can't have another Chris Beniot.
I don't watch westling but this is so terrible. Chris Benoit and his family R.I.P.

*even more disturbed about this now than in her last post, and for very good reason*
The more I hear about it, the worse it gets. Why do I have the feeling that if Benoit had lived, he would have blamed it all on his kid?
@#%$. Seriously, the man was an @#%$.
*walks away mumbling*
When the fans care more about this and began to protest with their money, you'll see a change. Since this is unlikely, there you go.
It's called a moment of silence, Nuch. No need to go postal.

The mystery deepens...
Benoit's page on Wikipedia, a reference site that allows users to add and edit information, was updated at 12:01 a.m. Monday, about 14 hours before authorities say the bodies were found. The reason he missed a match Saturday night was "stemming from the death of his wife Nancy," it said.
And police say the IP address was traced to Stanford, CT, the home of the WWE.
Dadtold me that, I don't have a source. He saw it on TV.
Yeah, SX, they also said that on our news.
Quote:
. . .
Beniot's son didn't have Fragile X Syndrome
Beniot's Doctor prescribed him 10 month courses of Steriods every 3-4 weeks
Also on the Wikipedia tid bit. The bloke who posted it was just a guy who heard a rumour on the internet and posted it up on Wikipedia. He has apologised for this and Wikipedia has confirmed that the IP addresses are similar. He has had his computer seized by officials though.
That news is absolutely shocking.
Sorry to bump an old topic, but something VERY interesting has popped up.
Also, the scanning of Benoit's brain compared to a healthy brain.
There is an old man who goes to get a newspaper (The New York Times) but never pays for it. After the manager confronts him, his wife tells the manager that he suffers from dementia.
I wonder what goes through the mind of these people. What do they really think while they get through in that state of mind. If Benoit suffered from dementia, people can't really blame him for murder
That goes to show all of us that getting hit in the head one too many times makes one go cuckoo. :p
Hmmm.
Very interesting, indeed.
If these studies lead to a conclusion that concussions can lead to dementia, then we're about to see massive changes in wrestling, boxing, football, and just about every other high-impact sport.
Also, so that's where Christopher Nowinski went to.
