1=7702">Whitney Houston =/= Bobby Brown

LOS ANGELES -- The tumultuous marriage of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown which withstood drug addiction, Brown's numerous arrests, the decline of Houston's once-sparkling image and domestic abuse allegations is coming to an end.

A publicist for Houston confirmed to The Associated Press that the Grammy-winning, superstar singer had filed for divorce after 14 years of marriage.

Publicist Nancy Seltzer declined to reveal where or when Houston filed the divorce papers, and said the singer had no statement to make.

"I can just confirm that she has filed for divorce," Seltzer said Wednesday.

Brown's lawyer said Houston had filed papers for a legal separation.

Houston and Brown, who had a home in Alpharetta, Ga., have one child, a 13-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina.

When they wed in 1992 the union seemed to outsiders to be a mismatch. Houston once one of the best-selling singers in history was a glamorous, pop superstar with a super-clean, princess-like persona, whereas Brown, who rose to fame as a member of the boy band New Edition before striking out on his own, was a sometimes coarse R&B singer with a more street-wise image.

But as the years wore on, it would become hard to determine which one was more troubled. Brown best known for hits like "My Prerogative" and "Every Little Step" would be arrested numerous times for drugs and alcohol, while Houston's own battles with substance abuse sullied her image.

Together, the two were a tabloid editor's dream. When Brown was released from a stretch in jail a few years ago, an ecstatic Houston greeted him by jumping into his arms and throwing her arms and legs around him before a throng of fans and media.

And in a 2002 ABC interview with Diane Sawyer, an erratic-sounding and wan-looking Houston, with a profusely sweating Brown by her side, admitted dabbling in drugs but denied using crack, then uttered the now famous phrase: "Crack is wack."

Houston checked into a drug rehabilitation program in 2004 and again in 2005, announcing the second time that she was also using prayer to help overcome her drug problems.

Aside from the kid, I don't know which one I should feel more sorry for at this point. Honestly, I....don't. :/

And it only took almost 16 years before she realized that he was no good: what has Houston been smoking?!

So I can avoid it.

I've seen it from both sides of the fence, be it husbands who beat thier wives to lord over them or wives who abuse drugs and thus make thier husbands and childrens lives a living hell.

You'd be surprised how love (or what you might think is love) can cloud ones judgement for such a very long time.

Having said that, all jokes aside I'm happy to she that finally got the sense to get away from Bobby (I saw Dionne Warwick's reaction to just seeing her cousin at some charity event that was broadcast when the news broke and she almost had tears in her eyes at being able to see her baby cousin looking OK, which was sad). The man is a joke and her family has been pushing this for a long time now with no success until now.

I was not shocked to hear she's filing for divorce either. Hopefully, it'll make a change in her career as well as in her new life (you know the one without Bobby).

You know, I think they're on drugs. [/Grandad]

Anyway, I have to say I'm surprised because honestly I thought this happened years ago.

Kudos to her and all that but at the same time, didn't she try this a bajillion times over before anyway?

Why don't I see this going through? In a couple of weeks, we'll probably hear that she's back with him. I hate to sound like a beeznatch but, y'know... ... that's kinda how it's been already.

Really? Not even "I will always love you"? *recomends soundtrack to The Bodyguard*
Whitney Houston's a pretty good solo singer, tho I personly prefer her duets. Specially "Hold Me" (w/Teddy Pendergrass) Praps you should give some R & B a listen? Ya might like it!^_^
As to a divorce, it does seem like it'd be a good thing for all if they split. When you put a lot into a relationship but ain't getting much back, that's usually a sign it's time to let go. Besta luck to her!

Jn: As far as I know they only separated once, and that was due to a huge push from her family. They claim to have "worked it out" much to the chagrin of many. This is the first time she's actually gone through a full head on divorce though. But I'm not doubting what youe saying at all though. Thats par for the course with any battered wife or family member thats been exposed to that kind of situation on a daily basis. And anybody familiar with his past knows that Bobby Brown radiates all those things since his days in New Edition. He's the perfect example of the "bad boy" who was actually bad and continued to stay that way. 😛

Nope Miss Puar. I probly did hear her but did'et know it was her. But i know Ja Rule made a song with Bobby called 'Thug Lovin''

And i listen to R & B - Beyonce (Cd selling very good .), Alicia Keys (Hope she's planning a new cd), Erykah Badu (She need to make a new cd. It been years. :( ). I can go on and on but some others i like are one shots (Like musiq and Heather Headley and Angie stone(?)) I love R&B more thean i love Rap. But it's hard for me to find my favs. :(

But never, as far as i can remember, heard a song from Whitney. If i did, i probley did't know it was her.

(And is there any Music threads in MG that still alive? I whould love to start a thread. But, Due to my terrible grammer, i banned myself not to make topics untill i inprove)
