If he did this a few years back when the nation wanted him to, I might give a flying...

Right now, it means little to nothing to me, though some of my colleuges are vaguely interested.

As Craig said, the only really surprising thing about this is that nobody's managed to persuade his clawing little hands to let go of the power sooner - and since he announced that he'd serve a full third term (until 2009 - another lie) and then resign, he's been regarded as a lame duck with a dangerous level of autocratic power and no need to worry about mopping up his own mess ever since.

I'm keeping an eye on things, too - everyone's talking about a Brown (our Chancellor, regarded as PM in waiting for the last ten years) government being a new beginning, but they seem to forget that the only reason that Gordon got so angry and betrayed about Blair not going sooner is because Blair and Brown were originally good friends and think very much alike.

The level of apathy or "But it's nothing to do with me!"-ness towards people who pass laws that can (for example):

Throw you in jail
Take away your civil liberties
Send armies marching into meat grinders
Invade other sovereign nations with no popular support
And/or potentially use nuclear weapons

...really does disturb me at times.

We're only just getting rid of one person with an obsession with silly ideas and needless risks - we don't need another one! 🙂

I saw on the news just last night that Brown intends to resign at the same time, unless I heard wrong. I wasn't paying much attention.

I'm sure that was the soon to be ex-deputy minister John 'egg in yer face' Prescott they were talking about. Unless I missed it at some point, but I also took more attention to the news than usual. I haven't listened clearly as to what Gordon Brown's motives are to run the country. < :

Sorry, yes. I meant Prescott, not Brown.

And by that you can see exactly how much attention I actually bother to pay the world of politics nowadays.
