Hey there, gang. Got back from Florida yesterday, and I had a great time soaking up the sun, which was one of the few things that Disney doesn't charge you for. ;-P

Speaking of Disney, I have a poll/challenge for all of you, and it's based on something that I picked up while I was down there.

In an attempt to pick up my artwork again, and to enhance my drawing ability, I picked up my first anime book in the Japan section of World Showcase. This book details all about drawing characters from "bishoujo", which are games where females are the stars.

In reading through the book, it tells of 8 character types that the girls fall into in these games, be it romance simulation, RPG, combat, whatever.

YOUR MISSION: Determine which character type all of our females in the world of Mobius fall into. Some will be easy, others not so much. Here below are the character types, with a brief description.

HEROINE: The lead. Gets along with everyone. Modeled after the lastest teen poster girl.

HONOR ROLL STUDENT: Quiet, smart, hard worker, tends to be physically frail but strong at heart.

CUTE YOUNGER GIRL: Somewhat clingy and a dependant crybaby. Loves fairytale romances. Sometimes is an obstacle to the lead male's love interest.

REBELLIOUS BAD GIRL: Less than ideal home environment, rebellious toward school and groups. While honest and loyal, she is known to take dangerous risks.

ACTIVE ATHLETIC GIRL: Opposite to the Honor Roll Student. An open, free spirit, she lives for sports, preferring them over studies.

SEXY OLDER GIRL: While visually tempting, she is cheerful, friendly and open-minded, sometimes being the male lead's confidant as well as a femme fatale obstacle to the intended love interest.

PRINCESS: Opposite to the Rebellious Bad Girl. From an affluent, distinguished family, she is strong-willed and composed, maintaining emotional control, but having a sometimes sorrowful air, usually due to a secret of some kind.

SMART ALECK: Opposite to the Cute Younger Girl. She doesn't know her place nor her limits, often trying to appear more mature and sophisticated than she really is.

Like I said, some of the types above have certain Mobians pegged in a heartbeat, but it's easy to get torn on others. So what do YOU think?

Hmm, I have a similar book. It lists girl categories as the imp, the sexy one, the nice older girl, the smart one, etc. Maybe we have the same book? Is it white, and part of a huge series?

Bummer there's no category for a girl who hangs with the guys and is addicted to video games. XD I'll have to go with a cross between heroine and smart aleck, minus the "acting more sophisticated than she really is" part. :spin The Shoe is quite prone to Haruhara Haruko explosions. Ask any of my friends.

I think I have that book..... They have two different kinds. One with a white cover, as ShoeHedgie said, and one with a purple cover. Similar series'.... they're made by the same people (EDIT: and by that I mean company >>; ). But anyways....

Also like ShoeHedgie said, I guess I'm a cross between the heroine and the smart aleck. None of the others sound like me at all. XD;

I'd call that a tomboy. :3 And I'd definitely be that.

Haruka-chan! (sans the videogame addiction)

Who's she, you ask? She would be the girl in both the sig and the avatar of this humble user.

She would be the one next to the aqua-marine haired girl.

Um... OK, I have to clarify here.

First, I'll throw in my wife Andrea into the mix, and judging from how she is, she's the Honor Roll Student more than anything else.

But overall, I think you ladies got the wrong idea of what I was asking before. I wanted to know what character types applied to Sally, Bunnie and all the SatAM and Archie females, not you girls. Still, it was a nice thought-provoker.

Out of anyone, the big ones I think we can still peg right away are Amy Rose and Rouge. They still fit in as the Cute Younger Girl and Sexy Older Girl as far as I see. But like I said, some of the other ladies are harder to peg.

So NOW what do you think now that I've clarified the question?

(BTW, SSS, you're right on describing the book. I assume Tadashi Ozawa is the author of your copy?)

After doing a brief search on the internet (I have a Japanese copy and therefore cannot read the author ^^;; ), yep, you have the same copy I do. ^^

I don't particularly care for Archie/SatAM (**SegaSonic girl**), so I don't really know the characters. If I were to jump into the games a little bit though, I think Cream would be considered the Cute Younger Girl for sort of obvious reasons ^^

Sally Acorn fits the Princess description to just about a T. I think that Bunnie Rabbot fits into the Sexy Older Girl role. I'm afraid as far as Archie goes, the same applies, but I don't know enough about other characters to really accurately say, though I'd guess Mina sorta fits either the Cute Younger Girl or Active Athletic Girl roles.

This is kinda neat; I've recently created a character using a "catgirl" stereotype, and she seems to be doing well in the RP I introduced her into. Goes to show that stereotypes aren't necessarily a bad thing! Though I could imagine some girls don't fit so neatly into all of these categories, it isn't too hard to pick out fictional females and fit them in one or the other. I'll have to remember this when building my own female characters.

Bunnie...sexy older girl. She seems to have enough wits to spare the others when they're being foolish.

Mina: CYG. definetly.

I've attempted this for some of the universes ;p
Next time you want something to be SatAM/Archie only, Brian, you have to post it in Knothole. This forum isn't frequented necessarily by the SatAM/Archie crowd. This entire board has a larger non-SatAM/Archie crowd.

Quote:

HEROINE: The lead. Gets along with everyone. Modeled after the lastest teen poster girl.

Archie: Mina, minus the being the lead part as the last two parts I think fit her
Sega: Amy Rose, because she is the lead girl ;p

Quote:

HONOR ROLL STUDENT: Quiet, smart, hard worker, tends to be physically frail but strong at heart.

Archie: Hope, one of the few non-fighting female semi-regulars and she does have a good heart
Sega: Tikal, her kindness with regards to Chaos

Quote:

CUTE YOUNGER GIRL: Somewhat clingy and a dependant crybaby. Loves fairytale romances. Sometimes is an obstacle to the lead male's love interest.

Archie: Safron, though obviously the whole love interest stuff doesn't apply, she's naive and despite her insistence at being insulted in #94 does strike me as a clingy & dependant type (I might've put Mina here prior to #134)
Sega: Cream, she's a non-fighter though the whole love interest stuff doesn't apply

Quote:

REBELLIOUS BAD GIRL: Less than ideal home environment, rebellious toward school and groups. While honest and loyal, she is known to take dangerous risks.

Archie: Fiona, her whole background with a bounty hunter speaks volumes as well as being a non-roboticized slave for Robotnik and her original "hatred" toward Sonic and Mighty for not saving her
Archie: Julie-Su fits this part as well

Quote:

ACTIVE ATHLETIC GIRL: Opposite to the Honor Roll Student. An open, free spirit, she lives for sports, preferring them over studies.

SatAM: Bunnie, she's a free spirit, does martial arts and didn't seem to be the studious type
Archie: Amy Rose, she's a free spirit and she doesn't strike me as the studious type

Quote:

SEXY OLDER GIRL: While visually tempting, she is cheerful, friendly and open-minded, sometimes being the male lead's confidant as well as a femme fatale obstacle to the intended love interest.

Archie: Bunnie, she's pretty and she's everybody's friend when they need to talk it seems and after #152, she pretty much is about to fit this one to a T
Sega: Rouge, this is her intended role though the description doesn't totally fit her

Quote:

PRINCESS: Opposite to the Rebellious Bad Girl. From an affluent, distinguished family, she is strong-willed and composed, maintaining emotional control, but having a sometimes sorrowful air, usually due to a secret of some kind.

SatAM & Archie: Sally, some might take issue with the emotional control part (particularly in Archie), but she does mainly control her emotions so she fits this one

Quote:

SMART ALECK: Opposite to the Cute Younger Girl. She doesn't know her place nor her limits, often trying to appear more mature and sophisticated than she really is.

SatAM & Archie: Nicole, as she seemingly loves to have a funny comment that shows off her sassiness

Very few are perfect and then there are plenty of Archie females that don't fit any of these either to me because they're too much of a mixture of others, or not enough is known to put them in any. ;p

Hey, when you're not around as much as I am anymore, you forget these things. But it does not excuse my ignorance, so I'll make a note of that in the future.

Anyway, about time a couple people tried the concept, I really was getting worried. This is a help to me, actually, because I bought this book in part to help with my SSF stuff, and perhaps making profile shots would be very interesting if I did them according to character type. Not sure if I agree with all of your choices, but let's face it, that's part of the fun of it.

OK, I'm out. Up WAY too late here.

My apologies for the rushed first reply on this topic. I wanted to note that those characteristics mentioned are like templates. For example, if all the girls were to be in the HONOR ROLL STUDENT, it would not be an interesting piece of art.

It's hard to place many of the characters into fitted categories and sometimes many characters fit into two or more profiles. It's not something unique to the Mobius World: many Japanese Bishoujo artists mix and combine different traits into a unique, very personal girl.

You can see from my previous point one example: Uranus can fit into the rebellious bad girl (being a race driver, dressing like a boy most of the time) or the active athletic girl (being able to outpace most of the girls, having to run away from her duties) (although she fits the former more than the later, Sailor Moon fans can attest to the many troubles she caused with Sailor Moon, not to mention the "betrayal" in the last season).
