That's what this towen thinks!

SARAJEVO (Reuters) - The ethnically divided Bosnian city of Mostar has agreed to erect a new symbol of unity -- a statue of kung fu legend Bruce Lee, worshipped by Muslims, Serbs and Croats.

A group of enthusiasts came up with the idea of honouring the childhood hero of the city's ethnic groups in 2003, on the 30th anniversary of his death. They launched the project, found donors and waited a year for the city's approval.

"We plan to erect the statue in November in the centre of the city," Veselin Gatalo, a member of the Urban Movement organisation, told Reuters by telephone on Monday.

"This will be a monument to universal justice that Mostar needs more than any other city I know."

He said Mostar, scene of fighting between Muslims and Croats in 1993-1994, needed a symbol of justice, mastery and honesty -- virtues upheld by the late Chinese-American actor.

Born in San Francisco, Lee starred in several kung fu movies, including 1973's "Enter the Dragon". He died at the age of 32 from swelling on the brain.

A German organisation agreed last year to sponsor the project with a 5,000 euro grant.

The statue, cast in bronze and showing the martial arts master in a typical fighting pose, will be designed by a local sculptor and put up in central Mostar.

Lee's widow Linda will be invited to attend the ceremony.

LOL!

I guess you could say that he did use martial arts to excel himself as a better person, and he set up martial art schools so others could do so too, which is OK. Plus y'know he did kick ass in Enter the Dragon 😛 LOL

Oh now you have done it! Bruce Lee is involved in a subject! I must post. The worship part is too extreme even though I think Bruce is the cats pyjamas. Enter the Dragon, favourite film and will remain so.

I wouldn't say no to a bronze statue of the guy! Who would say no, save those who aren't fans?

Legend and a role model for all I think. Come on, the guy became a legend in a racist america! In one of his films, the sign on the park entrance reading, 'No dogs or chinese' that was a real sign and him kicking the thing in half rocked! Kareem Abdul Jabbar! One of Bruce's students and my god, was he a giant. He was in Game Of Death! The Green Hornet, he was Kato!

HANG ON, I got a little carried away there!:^^;

I think it's cool. You have to admit, he is a symbol of determination and hope.:thumbsup

I'd call Bruce Lee a symbol of personal achievement, the pinnacle of athleticism, and an entertainment pioneer. However, there is no way he could muscle out the likes of the Gandhi, the Dalai Lama and others as a symbol of world peace.

being a near Black belt myself, i'd say bruce Lee really was awesome.
symbol of world peace? uhhh...sure why not.

i still think it was amazing that he bounced back after that injury. i got injured a while back and i'm still coping with recovery. (IT SUCKS.) but he came back and invented one of the most popular martial arts in the world.
Now that's impressive.

You obviously never saw the uncut footage of Bruce Lee kicking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's butt in Game of Death, have you? :p

Point.
However, many less deserving people have had statues put up.

Somebody put bllets in a gun that they were using in his last to-be film I believe. Meh. He got shot, and I _think_ that caused it.

Actually, that was his son, Brandon, on the set of The Crow. Yeah, luck of the family....

Bruce Lee was in a really bad car accident. That's where he recieved the head trauma that swlled his brain and that's what killed him.

I heard it was some kind of allergic reaction to some aspirin he took.

Who knows really. Either way, his death was tragic.:(

I'm pretty sure Bruce Lee wasn't in a car accident, and it was a medical reaction to something.

I wouldn't call Bruce Lee a symbol of world peace, but I'll give him credit for helping to break down racial stereotypes. He was one of the first Asian actors to really make it on the big screen. Though Chinese people have a new stereotype as being asskicking defenders of justice, at least we're no longer seen as sniveling, dirty, railroad-laying Chinamen.

Oh yeah, and the "No Dogs and Chinese" sign, while rather obscure among Americans, is infamous as a symbol of oppression among the citizens of Hong Kong. It's one of those images that are seared into your head. Props to Bruce Lee for taking it down.

Bruce Lee's death was a mystery. But a Car accident?

my personal belief (a belief of many scientists and martial artists.) was that he was killed by the Chinese mafia.

if you remember correctly, back then the mafia wouldn't just shoot you. they had to go hand to hand and win.
alot of people say that one hired assassin had gotten into a fight with him, the entire purpose of the fight was to hit him once. since the assassins were some of the best in the world, he hit him just right to send shockwaves to his brain killing him 3 days later.
Bruce Lee did beat the guy (under 1 minute) but the assassin did end up killing him.
this was in Bruce's biography if i remember correctly.

That sounds like this 'trembling hand' technique I heard about. I'm surprised they could get close enough let alone hit him. But, they were some of the best assassins in the world like you said.
The guy is an inspiration. He was paralysed and doctors said he will never walk again. And guess what! I think he did more than just walk. I think he continued to kick some serious ass. Oh, and I just have to say this, because many people believe it to be fake. The infamous nunchaku. THAT WAS REAL! No doubt in my mind whatsoever.

Yes. Bruce Lee PWNZ you. If there are any doubters, they can search for him when they die and take him on. Perhaps then, they will know the truth of his cause of death.

Yes, it is quite sad that Bruce died at 32. *sighs* Ah, well. Enter The Dragon OWNZ your arses. And as for techniques, there are many Chinese beliefs as to how one should fight.

And the main thing is always to "channel your qi" (pronounced as chee [as in cheese], without the H in the word. ^^), and upon gaining total control of your qi, you can focus it into a single strike, penetrating your opponent's guard. And it works, in a way. O_o I got injured by my friend at Taekwondo once when I was holding the target for him. >>; The impact of his punch went right through the target and got me staggering. x.x

And as for worshipping a statue of Bruce... IMHO, that's just WRONG. o_o

That's a really expensive statue. I've been on Avenue of the Stars.. it's nice as it is. While I think it'd be nice to have a Bruce Lee statue there, it's really not something the government should be spending money on. That's ludicrous.

I do agree in a way. If there are more important things that need attention and money, then they should focus on that first, but a bronze statue of Bruce Lee sounds the donkey's biscuits.
:thumbsup

Something like that would get heavily vandalised where I live. No one has any respect for people here.:(
