They take up almost half your television shows.
They're mostly annoying and full of things you don't understand.
They always occur at the most crucial points.

They're commercials, and anyone with a t.v. knows them!

My question to you is: Do commercials really work? Have you ever been influenced solely by a commercial to buy, watch, or participate in something?

For me, only a few things. Never movies. I always see them on at the theatre's previews. The only definite thing I can think of is Final Fantasy X. I was watching... Uh, I think Robot Wars, or something like that, and a commercial came on for it. Needless to say, it left me drooling. :p It was my first true original RPG, everything before that was Poke'mon and such.

Anyway, your thoughts?

The recent Burger King commercials have left me a little bit paranoid. "The King" is downright creepy. But at least you get free food if he appears to you.:thumbsup

XD! The king is indeed creepy. Anyway well on The-N(a network for teens) the commercials are actually cool. Anyway yea, I saw a Sonic(resturant) commercial advertising the Jr. Banana Split, awhile back...that night my mom and I went to get one. ^^

I'd have to say consoles and games.
Whenever a game comes out(mainly Sonic), I almost always end up buying it. When the PS2 and GC was released, I had to get those, too.

I've not had any I can think of that made me buy, but there've been a few where I've sworn blind never to have anything to do with the companies involved (eSure insurance springs to mind).

On the other hand, there have been some where, despite never wanting to buy the product, I'll always remember the ad. The Citroen dancing car would be one of those.

Wrong! A 30-minute timeslot contains only 8 minutes of commercials versus 22 minutes of show.

That may be true, but it sure FEELS like it does.

Well, car adverts are always the most impressive to me, from the dancing Transformer, to the Singing in the Rain remix; but no official adverts have ever enticed me through existing...

One UNofficial advert has.

Cillit Bang music video is perhaps the greatest advert never made (by a company). Seriously, that song, video and message is so pounded into my head that I willingly spent an extra 2 buying that over other household cleaners.

Like Elaine, eSure's adverts just enrage me (especially because the campest man in the world works in my office and keeps telling people to "CALM DOOOOWN DEEYUUUR!!!" *twitch*)

Needless to say, the eSure remix did nothing for me, but annoy me to levels only achieved, previously, by The Crazy Frog.

Speaking of that little thing, if I see "DJ Crazy Frog's Popcorn remix" again I'm going to hunt down every single person who has ever worked for Jamster and Jamster a pineapple into them mowwow style!

The crazy frog gets on my nerves as well. @_@ Sweety is also a pain after you hear it for a while.

I can't remember to ever have been influenced by a commercial, when they start I usually turn the volume off and leave the room, do something else..
Maybe the game boy color commercial influenced me, but then again I had wanted one for quite a while.
There are quite a few memorable and funny adverts, though, even though I am not really interested in the product itself. Like the peugeot 407 advert where all the toy cars are driving around and the peugeot arrives "the only true car"! XD
