www.MarsDrive.com/

As far as I understand from my glimpse at this site that was introduced to me by a friend, this organization intends to gather broad public support and launch a private mission to Mars that will build a base and keep it on Mars, expanding as time goes on. There are so many obvious applications for taking advantage of Mars as a new possible colony and as a new source of resources, that this is worth taking a look at.

Until those living on Mars decide that they no longer need Earth Gov looking over their shoulder and decide to fight for independence.

FREE MARS.

Judging by the fact that it took over 50 years for manned private ventures of any kind into space to take place, and that NASA doesn't expect to get people on Mars until 2020-something, we'll probably all be eating vitamins and complaining about those damn kids and their hoverboots by the time Richard Branson and his venture-capital chums are hanging out on the red planet.

As you said, Cycle. It's just a foolish pipe dream.

The chances of privateers going to Mars are a million to one, he said (aaaah)
The chances of privateers going to Mars are a million to one...

But still they coooooome!

...what?! All the good Mars references were taken before I got here!

What a colossal waste of money.
It's only good the government isn't funneling money into this bull.

That's all well and good, until the portal to hell opens.

Let's worry about Earth first.

I do think that eventually, barring some huge disaster that collapses our civilization that we will establish ourselves on Mars. I just don't think that it'll be in our lifetime. I read somewhere that the earth is slowly drifting closer and closer towards the Sun. While it'll take millions possibly even a billion years for it to happen Earth will eventually become too hot to support life if the report I read is too believed. Relocating to Mars will be neccesary to ensure our survival.

Ultimitely our survival will rest on getting out of this solar system and expanding across the galaxy. It's unlikely this will happen, but it is possible.

And pray tell, Ace, what scientific journal did you read this article in? Methinks it's one of the kind you get at the supermarket checkout that say things like "Bigfoot captured in Arkansas turns out to be space alien!" or the like on the cover.

Humans will go to Mars when the devil goes ice-skating, pigs sprout wings, and I vote BNP or Conservative.

Actually it's a pretty well-accepted astronomical fact that the earth, barring any major collisions with other objects, will eventually find its way into the sun.

I thought it was the vice versa; that the sun was going to become a red giant and envelop the solar system?

Yes, I believe that's what Cyke meant. And it'll only envelop the inner planets, the outers will be perfectly free to start their own anime that highlights them instead of those precocious Inners who ALWAYS have to be the center of attention. 🙂
