Death of net game addicts alert others
www.chinaview.cn 2005-11-01 15:55:31

BEIJING, Nov. 1 -- The recent deaths of two net gamers have once again raised the issue of the impact of addiction on the online gaming community, and the health risks involved.

A young girl nicknamed "Snowly" died last month after playing the online game "World of Warcraft" for several continuous days during the national day holiday. Snowly's friends, who share the same game community, say that Snowly was a very diligent member and a key official of their community, who was always connected to the Internet.

Several days before Snowly's death, the girl was said to be preparing for a relatively difficult part of the game and had very little rest. She told her friends that she felt very tired.

A big online funeral was held for Snowly one week after her death. But the event was sadly overshadowed by the death of another game enthusiast nicknamed "Nan Ren Gu Shi".

Thereafter, several online game communities have posted announcements to urge their members to pay attention to their heath.

Meanwhile 7 major domestic game makers have agreed to install an anti-obsession system on eleven online game products. The system entered a trial period on October 20.

Here's a clue.

If you start feeling sick when you play a game -

If youve been playing a game for umpteen days straight -

If your skin color has become ghostly pale -

If you can no longer distinguish what sunlight is like -

If you havent taken a bath in over two days -

and its all because you've been playing videogames nonstop, then Doctor Dub is gonna give you your clue for the day:

GET OFF THE COMPUTER OR CONSOLE AND GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY YOU GREAT STUPID NITWIT!!!

O.o

I use my computer a lot, typically 8 hours a day, but I don't play games in all that time, and I take regular breaks. It really builds up stress from being tense for too long. Maybe people would learn something from this...if they just paid attention to the news.

Don't play for days on end.
Have regular sleep patterns.
Sleep for at least 7 hours every night.
EXERCISE.
Get an outdoor life. GO OUTSIDE AND BEAT UP A FEW PEOPLE IF YOU MUST! *shot*
Please, I'm usually on the computer for the whole day - normally a grand total of 15 hours. One should never be obsessed with any games. NONE AT ALL.

Comrade Nikita has one thing to say.

EVERYTHING IN MODERATION, FOOLISH GAMERS.

That will be all. ^^

So... It's fine to waste your entire day on the computer, but if you're playing a game for the same time, it's badbadbad?

Holy crap... the world is slowly getting stupider. I have a full time job, granted its working ON computers but 50% of what I do is running between buildings, fixing antenna's, talking to contacts at other businesses, and of course running cable.

The only time I can really play a game for more than like 3 or 4 hours is if its a lan party.

And no, Power Bars, Red Bull and going to the bathroom do not qualify as food, drink and exercise.

Dum. Dum. Dum... Another one bites the dust. Dum. Dum. Dum. Another one bites the dust... and another one gone and another one gone... another one bites the dust.

Is anyone keeping a tally on how many people are commiting suicide via MMRPG.

One day it'll just be plain UNCOOL to play a game where someone HASN'T died. I'm sure people across the world are hanging themselves because of the Star Wars Galaxy updates, but where is the City of Heroes deaths?!

Did I say that? No. I don't play non-stop. I go for regular exercise, and I do have a social life. And yes, if you play for 15 hours a day NONSTOP with only Coca Cola and hamburgers as meals, and a dustbin for toilet breaks, it's bad. Obsessing over games is not a good thing. I've personally lost sleep just to play before, and it left me completely drained of energy. Hence, I quit online gaming.

Social life? What social life? Does IM and Chat count as a social life?

But I go to college, and I don't really play games on my computer. I use it for... work. Yes, all those NC-17 fanfics you see on my hard drive? That's for college. Oh yes. College.

Ever heard of going to church, Harley? Or going out with your friends to town for a movie or two? I am a bespectacled man of the computer, but no - I do not rot in front of it power-levelling away, trying to beat all my friends in the game to a certain level. And indeed, I don't only use my computer for gaming. It does serve other purposes, you know.

Especially convenient, since I'm too lazy to write out my novel with a pen and paper.

My goodness, there isn't a game in creation or has yet to be created that could captivate me 100%. Only if it was so IMPOSSIBLY brilliant. And note the IMPOSSIBLY part.

Died from playing a game for too long without the bare necessities (the simple bare necessities) to keep you alive? HOW did that happen? :annoyed
