Horse's digestive systems have the problem in that they can't throw up properly. So when they do throw up from eating something bad (moldy hay usually), it goes up to the top of the throat, and then down the wind-pipe. So apparently, when you give CPR to horses, you're supposed to clamp down on their mouths, keeping them shut, and breath into their nostrils. I don't know if you've ever seen a horses nostril, but they're almost as big as a person's mouth and they're pretty gross looking at that, usually with horse snot dripping out. I don't think it's something a person would willingly want to put their mouth on to. On top of that, when you get into a situation where you need to give horse CPR, they are probably going to be lieing on the ground and kicking wildly. They're scared because they can't breathe, and they don't know that you're trying to help them, and may even try to bite you or kick you. A kick from a horse is enough to put a man in a hospital or even kill him.
Thus, the ideal is that you never arrive in a situation where you need to give a horse CPR.
So yeah, here I am. I think it's been a good six months since I posted here regularely. A lot has changed in my life since then. I moved from New York to Colorado for the summer, where I'm housesitting my aunt's ranch, which is how I learned so much about giving horses CPR. I'm here till the end of the month, and then I go back to Philadelphia for my senior year of college, of which I am scared stiff over because I don't think I'm anywhere near ready to graduate.
Why come back now? A mixture of boredom and isolation. I haven't had any human contact in a few weeks now, and won't for a little while more. It's reminded me how much I really missed this place.
So speaking of things missed, what did I miss? Anything major?
I think you might've missed EzBoard being "hacked" and many boards losing many posts, some were utterly destroyed (and then others weren't hit too badly). I'm not sure if you were around for that.
Thankies for the tips on horse CPR. Hopefully, I'd never be in that situation because knowing my luck I'd get kicked and end up seriously hurt. ;p
Yup, having seen horses up close during my mission and having seen one sneeze onto myself and my companion one fine and frosty morning, I can definitely testify that giving a horse CPR would be pretty gross.
Howdy again Srol, I think what TR said is pretty much the gist of what you missed.
Tookie Gawa!
Welcome back Srol.
Ewwwwww ...
That sounds...interesting....
My aunt works with horses and told me about that disgusting CPR thing. I was all "LMAO you have to do that. ^.^".
And I thought my lifesaving course for working with people was a bit iffy...
Welcome back, you missed loads of nothing.
