(eats a Snickers candy bar anyway)
There are some cases where its needed. Sometimes all thats standing between a hypoglycemic and unconsciousness is a piece of hard candy. But other than that, no, its pretty much bad for you.
Most of the things listed on there are the result of people who eat nothing but sugar. Not people that just pop in a candy bar every day. I think this author is a little over zealous, you know, kinda like the crusades?
~Rico
THAT IS IMPUDENCE! }:O
AND TODAY'S KNOCK ON HISTORICAL EVENTS HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE BAFH AND A CUP OF SUGAR!
Yeah, since most things have some kind of sugar in them, it's kinda hard to take a crusade against sugar itself. I think what her goal is, is to have people reduce the amount of sugar they eat, since huge quantities of sugar are definitely bad, just like eating too much of anything else.
Everything in moderation, that's the key. But at least in the US we're obsessed with taste and so many products are over-sugared. Sad really.
Agreed. Sugar is in EVERYTHING.
Except water, of course. But even too much water can kill you. 🙂
I don't think I've craved sugar since probably 4th grade. I'm so unamerican. At least I eat fast food.
~Rico
Yadda yadda yadda everything is bad for you in high amounts.
Moderation conquers all.
*Shrugs* I'm going to die anyway. I'd prefer to die with my coffee having 2 and a half sugars.
Plus I'd welcome the obesity.
#40 Greatly Offends me, though >.>
What's "physiological homeostasis"?
*continues to eat an entire packet of Jaffa Cakes for dessert*
*considers fetching the next packet*
Let's face it, if you follow every single dietary rule, you might live to 110 but lead a very boring life. Or I might just get hit by a bus tomorrow anyway.
*considers a cup of hot chocolate to follow up*

You know what else is sad? When they do stuff that's half the sugar, they HAVE to replace it with a different sweetener. Like splenda or phenolyanine. (Blah, however you say it XD) I don't really trust artificial sweeteners because they just...aren't natural. I'd much rather have my sugar, but I think I should really cut down. Especially since that artical probably has a lot of truth in it.
Of course, Sugar can be addicting, sweets can be addictin, and anything can become addicting. So I agree, moderation is the key, because even stuff that's good for you, like Vitamin C, can be bad for you in extra large quantities.
I've said it before and I'll say it again:
YAY FOR PROPAGANDA.
Anything is bad when you give it to lab rats. Especially when the dose is more than the subject's total body weight...
I love the internet.
Excuse me while I get another bottle of Pepsi.
Sugar is more addicting than any drug in the world. Period. Once you taste it you can't get enough. .___.
I actually don't like Sugar that much, except for soft drinks.
I'd much rather chomp on Beef Jerky than eat a Candy Bar.

Same here. Real food > candy.

I agree. o.o Once I dig into some candy I completely gourge myself...and then I have to slowly back AWAY from the candy....

Excuse me while I go get my decaf coffee with three sugars and a danish roll. 😀

NUUUUUU!!!!
Alas Jaffa cake 321, I knew thee. ** sobs ** :p
Hmmph. This is why I don't drink fizzy drinks. No, not because I hate the taste. No, not because they increase my risk of having a seizure.
Nah... this is for people who drink like, twenty bottles of coke a day.

Someone mentioned me?
XD;;
Anyway seriousily, I used to get myself drunk on pop- and it never affected me...never- and Diabetes runs in my family. I never really crave sugar anymore. Like my addiction of fast food- it came and past.
Least I still do one remaining american past-time, teh porn! *shot*
OHNOEZ! Eating way too much of something can kill?! SURELY you jest? :0
http://user.pa.net/~nrwing/whataguy/banbread/ <-- That's all I have to say about it.
And now, a song by Brak and Mr. Tickles on this subject.
"Food can be your friend,
Or food can be your foe.
But if you eat too much of it,
To Heaven you will gooooooo..."
*erhem*

You know, as a serious student of biochemistry I can appreciate all the cited material at the bottom of the sugar is bad for you web page.
However, since I have read a number of scientific papers I understand that not all science is equal. Some studies are inherently flawed to find a result whether it is there or not, and some tests are designed the same way, and not all of these are caught at the peer review level.
Ask yourself, "Is there any substance that can cause every single one of those conditions/diseases?" And the logical answer is, "No". But in select individuals with pre-existing conditions those diseases can become manifest because of sugar.
But Cooki is correct; a normal healthy individual will not develop endometrial cancer because of sugar intake. Most of those studies did not even use human data, only lab rat tests.
There are DEFINATE risks associated with a high sugar intake, obesity and type II diabetes are the biggest risks. Don't worry about rectal cancer, by the time sugar starts affecting that you'll have gone blind from diabetes and can't leave the couch from severe obesity.

Sugar? Shmugar.
I have a problem with salt instead.
