Wilma is currently a strong Category 4, and will probably upgrade to Cat. 5 relatively soon. However, as we saw with Rita, it'll most likely decrease in strength well before landfall.

(Western Atlantic and Carribean)

(Gulf of Mexico)

Even so, prepare yourselves forumers of Florida; you've got another hurricane coming. (waits for Fred to call Wilma off)

Holy...

Is Mother Nature PMS'ing or something? Let's hope it powers down once it hits land.

Well, they've already reached the last name on the '05 storm list. I guess that this means that the next will be called Hurricane Alpha.

What the crap? O_o; Let's hope it pulls a Rita and dies down... but if not, I hope Florida comes out all right in the end.

I don't know much about weather down there, is it common to have hurricanes this late in the year? O_o; I mean, I know the hurricane season officially ends in November but... usually the weather calms down by then. And what happens if they reach Z on the name list? o.o

Strangely enough, forecasters do NOT use the letters "W", "X", "Y", or "Z" when naming hurricanes. If there's another tropical storm brewing, the forecasters will use the Greek alphabet.

It will be named "Alpha". There's no hurricane "Zod" nor it will be in the Atlantic (unless they change the name process again).

We usually have at least one hurricane between October/November. That is technically a lay-off, since usually there are plenty in August/September.

Whatever. I just wish this thing would hurry up, get here, and get over with. Sure, it's been a nice paid vacation since Thursday (salaried county employee--tee-hee), but most of the places down here are all closed up, and I've been stuck in the house going out of my mind. One can only do so many anime marathons before one's butt starts to ache. I was looking forward to Goombay, too, this weekend, and now the storm's caused it to get moved to a weekend I think I have to work. All that wonderful food...

At least Depression 25 (to be Alpha some time today, it looks like) doesn't look like it's expected to go anywhere near us.
