Well, I'm surprised no one has beaten me to it. Just went to go see TMNT today with my friends.
Utter kick-a**. The three words I have for that movie.
The CGI was PHENOMENAL. Even though the characters were presented in a cartoonish manner, the CGI more than made up for it. It would appear that they're tying in the comic/new series and the original three movies. Anyone else see this yet?
I saw this the other day Nn
It is absolutly brilliant, I'd give a more detailed opion, but I can't be arsed right about now .
I saws it yesterday, with only one friend because no one else wanted to see it. It wasn't quite the best experience, as kids don't know the concept of keeping quiet longer than five seconds. The two noisiest happened to be to the left and right of us, in the row behind us, so it's like it was in stereo. If one wasn't saying something, the other one was. They made awkward, slightly humorous noises after anything happened, made obvious comments (like "it's Casey Jones!"), and made proclamations of "I gotta go peepee." You know, usual kids stuff. It made it kind of hard to hear the dialogue in the beginning. It kept me from really getting into the movie, you know? But I guess it's to be expected from a movie that caters mostly to children.
But it was a nice movie, doesn't really disappoint. I didn't quite like the use of the soundtrack that wasn't original, though. It was usually just some music playing on a radio or something in the background, but it just felt so tacked on. A big middle aged guy working in a diner isn't going to have poppy punky music playing in his restaurant! Or maybe he would to make his place seem hip? I dunno. But it only happened in a few scenes, and it's not really a big deal. I think I just don't like what was played.
It's also made pretty obvious there will be a sequel. When Karai talks about the future, and says something like "seeing some people you knew from the past" it's like a huge neon sign flashing "SEQUEL SEQUEL SEQUEL SEQUEL!" It'll probably happen if the movie does well, which it is, it beat out 300 at the box office.
I may have sounded rough on it, but it really is a very enjoyable movie (depending on the number of noisy kids at the showing). It had it's funny parts, the fight scenes were excellent (though I think the final battle scene could've lasted a bit longer), and as mentioned, the CGI looked great, especially the part where Spoilers (Select To Read): Leo fights Raph omg.
It gets my thumbs up. I wouldn't quite put it above the original movie, but it's still very worth watching if you're a Turtles fan.
RIP Mako
I want to see It, even though I really not a 100% TNMT fan Spoilers (select to read):But Im not THAT surprised Raph and Leo whould fight. They ALWAYS aregure like a married couple.
Mod Edit: Keep spoilers hidden, please (see here for a tutorial on how to do this).
Jeez, way to go ruining the spoiler, SC. =/
But either way, I still want to see it when it comes out here. Hopefully that'll be next week.
it beat out 300 at the box office.
Oh please no. That means its going to use the pointless "Number 1 Movie in America" phrase in their next ads.
Besides, of course it will sell out 300. A rated "R" movie to a kids movie that anyone can see of course will do better at the box office.
Wait, did 300 ever advertise on television?
Quite extensively, but considering it's 300's third week, and TMNT was only stronger by 3 million, it's not really a huge gap.

My bad,I thought EVERYONE who watched the cartoon show know that. (Bad SC, bad! )

Wait, did 300 ever advertise on television?
Not as much as it did through MySpace.

I love being a turtle!
DON'T I KNOW IT
I a pretty pig Turtles fan, although I haven't seen much of the comics or the original TV show, but I have watched nearly all of the first 3-4 seasons of the new Turtles show and I've seen the first movie. This looks great, I can't wait to see it.

Oh no, they outsold it's opening weekend against a movie that's been out for the better part of a month already.
TMNT's opening weekend saw it earning $25.45 million dollars, compared to 300's $20.5 million.
Let's ignore that 300's opening weekend saw an earning of $70,885,301* and is currently standing as the 19th highest movie release ever.
And for the record, I saw TMNT. Heck, I sat next to Cy. It was a very good movie, and the CGI was very pretty, and to top it all off, I'm not even a Turtles fan.
* In North America alone. Add another $6.2 for the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, then another $2.9 as one of Greece's highest releases in history, and ANOTHER $3.6 for being the highest IMAX release ever.

Y halo thar
I saw the movie and it was pretty good. Defnitely the most visually impressive TMNT movie ever.
Spoilers (Select To Read): However I'm surprised they didn't just call it "Raphael: The Movie". Much of the plot resolves around his anger, the sense of betrayal by Leo's absence, compounded by long-standing sibling rivalry leading into kickin' bloodfued, but ultimately resolved by Splinter's sage advice and loyalty to kin. Of course, his personality is heavily echoed in Winter's rebelious general and just to hammer the point home he must turn down an offer at immortality to be part of Leo's team. Speaking of Leo his leadership skills are never fully on display: seems he did a much better job handling things on his own in a very un-PC Latin America. And I cannot believe that April and the turtles did not make the Nightwatcher = Raphael connection. As Casey says he looks like a metal turtle; Rafe has been sleeping all day every day, and is quick to defend the vigilante. Doesn't take a Donatello to figure THAT one at. Ah yes, Donnie. Blink and you'll miss him. Not a good example of team work and family equality when your highlight is dealing with tech support calls. I loved Splinter telling him to "be strong when others are weak". Shame we never saw him put the advice to work. Mikey is klutzier than normal but hey he injects some much-needed comedy as the other turtles' witty dialog is MIA. Insert obligatory Casey/April fanservice, a villain with good intentions and familial problems running parallel to the Ninja Turtles, mix with a dash of 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, and top off with poor music selection: Rafe battles a Gremlin-esque beast while "Black Betty" rocks on. Since half the Ram Jam guys are dead it's a cover.* Yes, it's awkward. Whether you think the lyrics refer to a paddywagon, Civil War soldiers, or a black prostitute it shouldn't be featured in a superhero movie. The other tracks aren't terrible, but aren't standouts either and do little to move the story along.
Anywho, it looks gorgeus and has such moments of smash-em-up bliss that you'll forgive it's faults and just geek it out for 90 minutes. I've seen better and I've seen worse comic adaptations(it's no Hulk, thankfully). Think I'll stick it out for the sequel that's sure to follow. Don't be playin' me Karai.
*If you read the spoilers please don't give me a music lecture. It's the arrangement Bartlett created: complete with longer verses and guitar popularized by his group in the 70's- not the a cappela, bluesy and mercifully short version recorded in the 30's. Therefore they get credit/blame.
Everybody knows Venus is the best TMNT, so where the heck was Venus?
Venus is considered un-canonical to the original creators of the TMNT =p
