Ever since 11:30 am today. Damn did it take a long time! Last Friday, I leave School early to take my ASVAB, which took about 2 hrs. I score a 72, which is really good. I go back to the recruiting office with my recruiters and sign some paper work and learn how to deceive my interviewers when it came to questions about drugs and alcohol and all that crap (I'm 100% clean by the way).
I spend the night at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, which sponsors the MEPS program, or the military entry program. Saturday morning, 3 am. Had to wake up. I couldn't eat breakfast because my recruiter didn't want me to (my weight was borderline with the max, so I had to drop a few pounds naturally by starving myself. -_- 5 am, we ride the buses to the MEPS facility and had to go through what I like to call HELL. Nearly every single person there were assholes, but I had to deal with it. I had to get my physical, which involved drug testing, orthopedics, eye/hearing exams, signing a ****LOAD of papers, blood test, etc. By the end of noon that day, I find out I failed my hearing test and eye exam (I made a new prescription for glasses a few days earlier, but my glasses didn't come in). The doctor ordered me to get an ear wash and eye refract.
Yesterday, had to repeat the same process (with spending the night at the Hotel again). I got my ears washed and my eyes checked (again), but by the time I came back from those appointments, I couldn't meet the doctor, because he left. I had to stay...AGAIN!!!
Now today was the day. My paperwork was finally done, and I was able to be classified of my jobs that I was available for, due to my ASVAB score. Apparently, a few jobs that I was qualified for were disqualified, due to my 20/50 vision. Sucks. But I was still able to get a good variety of jobs. I was originally wanting to be working with computers, so operations specialist was cool. But suddenly, I get a change of heart, and decide to want to work with medicine. Fast forward, my job that I will be working with will be Hospital Corpsman, which is VERY beneficial. I will be getting shipped off to Chicago for boot camp for 8 weeks, then remain in Chicago for 14 MORE weeks for medic school. Then, I will head for California for the 4 last weeks of my schooling. After that, I will get 2 weeks off and will be able to head home. Finally, I will get stationed to where I want to be! I get shipped off on September 25th of this year!
So to put it short, I'm a sailor man now!
Heeeeey! **hugs tightly** Congrats, you! Sounds like it was a lot of fun going through the process... </sarcasm> But in the end? Totally worth it ^__^
You're gonna be in Chicago? Sweet! That's right in my backyard. If you've never been there before, you're gonna love it ^^

*salutes*
Pffftttt...Air Force.
you should have joined the army
So Fexus is in the Air Force, last I recall...
And now Super Shadic 01 is in the Navy.
A military rivalry, here on the MoFo?
:O
This could get interesting... i'll bring the sporks
Did I hear something about an Armed Forces battle on the MoFo?
*makes some popcorn*
Seriously though, congrats on getting into the Navy, Shadic. We're behind you all the way.
Awesome stuff, congratulations.
Oh yeah, and just to clarify, I will NOT be going to Iraq, despite how my job works with the Marines a lot. If I were, I would have chosen to become a field-medic. It comes with a $20,000 bonus, but it isn't worth my frickin' life.
Congrats man. I took the aptitude test myself and came very close to enlisting, but I decided instead to try for ROTC or nothing, so when I didn't get that, I just went off to college.
Best of luck on Boot Camp man. Ain't no picnic for sure.

Unless it's winter and the Bears just lost.
So when does it actually start getting cold in Chicago? I'll be leaving in late September, so will it start getting extremely cold then? I was born and raised here in Dallas, where Texas weather is unpredicatable.
You're dang tootin' I am!
I'm not telling which one is Dubs though.

Congrats!
Not something I'd ever have the nerve to do - albeit with my medical history, they probably wouldn't even let me in, let alone give me anything more than a desk job. 🙂
So when does it actually start getting cold in Chicago?
Your guess is as good as mine. They have a saying that goes "If you don't like the weather in Chicago, wait five minutes and it'll change" or something like that. It gets kinda chilly (like 30's and 40's) mid-November most years. Coldest it gets is 10 degrees most of the time, and that's mid-January through February.
And then you've got the crazy stuff like snow in April and December thunderstorms and tornado season and fog and hail and crappy drivers to worry about the rest of the year. ^^
