When they say "Intelligent Whatever" they do mean God, and this articlae proves it.

Evangelical Scientists Refute Gravity With New 'Intelligent Falling' Theory

TOPEKA, KSAs the debate over the teaching of evolution in public schools continues, a new controversy over the science curriculum arose Monday in this embattled Midwestern state. Scientists from the Evangelical Center For Faith-Based Reasoning are now asserting that the long-held "theory of gravity" is flawed, and they have responded to it with a new theory of Intelligent Falling.

"Things fall not because they are acted upon by some gravitational force, but because a higher intelligence, 'God' if you will, is pushing them down," said Gabriel Burdett, who holds degrees in education, applied Scripture, and physics from Oral Roberts University.

Burdett added: "Gravitywhich is taught to our children as a lawis founded on great gaps in understanding. The laws predict the mutual force between all bodies of mass, but they cannot explain that force. Isaac Newton himself said, 'I suspect that my theories may all depend upon a force for which philosophers have searched all of nature in vain.' Of course, he is alluding to a higher power."

Founded in 1987, the ECFR is the world's leading institution of evangelical physics, a branch of physics based on literal interpretation of the Bible.

According to the ECFR paper published simultaneously this week in the International Journal Of Science and the adolescent magazine God's Word For Teens!, there are many phenomena that cannot be explained by secular gravity alone, including such mysteries as how angels fly, how Jesus ascended into Heaven, and how Satan fell when cast out of Paradise.

The ECFR, in conjunction with the Christian Coalition and other Christian conservative action groups, is calling for public-school curriculums to give equal time to the Intelligent Falling theory. They insist they are not asking that the theory of gravity be banned from schools, but only that students be offered both sides of the issue "so they can make an informed decision."

"We just want the best possible education for Kansas' kids," Burdett said.

Proponents of Intelligent Falling assert that the different theories used by secular physicists to explain gravity are not internally consistent. Even critics of Intelligent Falling admit that Einstein's ideas about gravity are mathematically irreconcilable with quantum mechanics. This fact, Intelligent Falling proponents say, proves that gravity is a theory in crisis.

"Let's take a look at the evidence," said ECFR senior fellow Gregory Lunsden."In Matthew 15:14, Jesus says, 'And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.' He says nothing about some gravity making them falljust that they will fall. Then, in Job 5:7, we read, 'But mankind is born to trouble, as surely as sparks fly upwards.' If gravity is pulling everything down, why do the sparks fly upwards with great surety? This clearly indicates that a conscious intelligence governs all falling."

Critics of Intelligent Falling point out that gravity is a provable law based on empirical observations of natural phenomena. Evangelical physicists, however, insist that there is no conflict between Newton's mathematics and Holy Scripture.

"Closed-minded gravitists cannot find a way to make Einstein's general relativity match up with the subatomic quantum world," said Dr. Ellen Carson, a leading Intelligent Falling expert known for her work with the Kansan Youth Ministry. "They've been trying to do it for the better part of a century now, and despite all their empirical observation and carefully compiled data, they still don't know how."

"Traditional scientists admit that they cannot explain how gravitation is supposed to work," Carson said. "What the gravity-agenda scientists need to realize is that 'gravity waves' and 'gravitons' are just secular words for 'God can do whatever He wants.'"

Some evangelical physicists propose that Intelligent Falling provides an elegant solution to the central problem of modern physics.

"Anti-falling physicists have been theorizing for decades about the 'electromagnetic force,' the 'weak nuclear force,' the 'strong nuclear force,' and so-called 'force of gravity,'" Burdett said. "And they tilt their findings toward trying to unite them into one force. But readers of the Bible have already known for millennia what this one, unified force is: His name is Jesus."

Look, I had a topic on this and it got locked. I didn't know that The Onion had any over 18 content anyway. If you're over 18, feel free to go searching for it. But Rico said that it's okay to link to the site I did link to. So don't get at me, get at him.

Intelligent Falling. It's a ridiculous idea, and somehow even worse than Intelligent Design. There's a topic on that too, on this board.

You drop a rock, it falls. Ergo, gravity.

These people are trying to explain miracles, just so that they can stick a red-hot-poker up science's ass. The entire point of miracles is that they are inexplicable.

You DO know that the Onion is a joke site, right?

Sadly, it is believable that someone would think of that idea.

I said you could? Where? I gave my opinion although it seems I shouldn't have, I didn't give you permission to repost this. The issue is with the in-page random ad right now that occassionly is pornographic (although all I've seen are cell phone and anti-piracy ads), unlike popups like on newgrounds and the SHQ main site a popup blocker won't deal with that one. o.o

Locking this one too and emptying the link until we get that sorted out. Please don't post another topic covering this, if you do it again you will be warned. I expect that it'll be either unlocked in the next day or so, or it'll be kept locked for good, we'll let you know either way.

The site itself does say that it's not intended for readers under 18, and the ads are problematic too.

Harley, once again you ruin what could have been a decent discussion (Troophead's EDIT). Just leave it be, please.

Edited by Troophead: Cycle, no vulgar name calling please. Thank you.

So that you know, if you attempt to link to The Onion, you MUST provide a warning due to the ads that can pop-up. The ads are random (as a result some may not ever understand why someone is complaining) and some of those ads are age inappropriate here. As a note to the mods/admins (who'll probably get the significance more), ironically, the reason that at tSfMB it was decided to forbid links to The Onion was due to the ads and if anyone wanted to share anything from the site it was required that they'd have to copy/paste the article at the board.

Anyway, the article itself is fine. But as Ultra mentioned, The Onion is a joke site, so don't take it seriously--though it has tricked people before (and even foreign countries).

Oops forgot. ;p Don't ever re-create a locked topic unless you get an admin's approval. That's a big "no-no."

Meh, this is my first visit to the Onion anyway. I'm pretty sure of one thing though - anybody who dreamt up Intelligent Design would happily dream up Intelligent Falling, and then call for it to be taught in schools as an official theory.

Sorry, I can't help but laugh at this, and the fact that it's a joke makes it better to laugh at. 🙂

'Intelligent falling' sounds more like "I shall now go and trip over my two feet. And while I fall, I shall look smartly into the camera, and give a wave. For that is an intelligent fall."

"That's not flying, that's falling with style!"

Toy Story quote, for those of you who were wondering. It just felt appropriate somehow.

That's pretty funny stuff!

The Onion does some great political satire.

--

I believe the consensus is: Do not link directly to anything that's objectionable. If you are linking to a site which has objectionable content elsewhere, post warning disclaimers by body of the post.

Hmm.

If that's the consensus, maybe we should put it in the rules.

Problem therein lies that most sites have questionable content. I bet Deviantart has people uploading iffy images too, but nobody tries to stop them from linking.

It already is:

Keep posts at a G/PG rating - Obviously, the definition of these terms is subjective. In general, don't post or link to anything most people wouldn't want a 10-year old to see. Besides, most of the older posters don't want to read (or see) "offensive" content either!

Links - Don't link to porn, ROMs, warez, anything illegal (that includes Sonic cartoon episode downloads or full issue Archie comic scans), or images that redirect to anything inappropriate for this board.

The only issue with this particular site is the fact that the ads are random and either you "know" that or you don't. This wasn't a big deal, or really made into one.

Like I said when it started. We allow links to places like newgrounds and sonic cult, I really didn't see the difference or what the issue was. Pretty much what Kat said. :p
