Also, as far as uncut DVDs go, we got word from the voice actors that there were no DVDs in production, and that there was no plan to make uncut One Piece DVDs. Also, the FUNimation rep. informed us that there currently were no plans to continue the other uncut DVDs, although it is still possible for them to be produced if 4Kids should happen to change their minds.

Well well well. Someone certainly has taken themselves to a new low. After lying about One Piece's minimum edits, this is possibly the worst thing they could have done.

Where did you get this info? I read the same in Toonzone and some have already accused it as false info because it came from an unreliable source. In short, I ain't believing anything so far because I'm overly suspicious like that.

Well, I guess it could be false, but there was already a good chance they were canning them. Low ep counts on disks, a very slow release schedule, a release of edited One Piece dvds. It could very well be true.

Whether it be the truth or not, it is the more likely scenario if you take into account the guy in charge of the decisions. 😮

I know and I agree, it is the most likely choice, but again, I won't believe it till I really see it.

Well, it's as simple as moving to Japan and learning Japanese. Even if they released uncut DVDs, fully in Japanese with no dirty English subtitles, left untouched by filthy Gaijin hands, you'd still find something to complain about. Importing is not too taxing, and I'm sure you could manage if you're that dead set against hearing your own language attributed to Japanese animation.

We knew this day would come, this is why I get most of my anime imported. And SH, it may be old, but it's still funny. Not that I'm against English dubbing, just so long as it's anyone besides 4Kids or Funimation.

Can I ask what this means? Does this mean that Sonic X is not continuing on DVD? Or perhaps that it's going to continue to suck on DVD? Cus it's coming out in Region 2 in just over a month, but I'm not bloody getting it if I'm only getting half a series. Cus that's what happened with Sonic Underground.

This means that uncut, Japanese dialogue and action with English subtitles and no editing on 4Kids part are not going to continue on DVD, much like the Shaman King and Yu-Gi-Oh DVDs so far. Sonic X will still come out in its edited, English form.

From what I can gather, it seems that an unedited version of Sonic X coming to DVD were just a rumour/lie.

You can download Japanese subtitled versions of Sonic X off the internet, you know.

A kiddy friendly Akira... first they'd have to cut out the swearing, the nudity, the drugs, the violence and the mutating blobness... there wouldn't be much of it left after that.

It's not so much about the language it's in as it is about... ya know, wanting a version of One Piece that doesn't edit four unconsecutive episodes together, skipping three that took place inbetween them.

It's alright for me. I hate anime. 😀

Although this definitely doesn't bode well for anime fans, considering most American TV dubs suck worse than the originals. :O

I knew you'd complain. 😛

Like I said before, if it means that much to you then just import it. If you're prepared to "get into" anime then you should be prepared to shell out something extra to get it fresh from its country of origin. I'm not too fussed either way, since most anime I enjoy is available uncut and subbed, but when it comes to shows which are blatantly going to be marketed towards children you should think about playing the import game.

Yeah. I don't like this for a couple of reasons. First of all, alot of "imported" anime is just bootlegged with horrific subs. (I'm talking about those cheesey "3-Disk Boxsets" with English and Chinese subs and work on any dvd player) Second, I was already planning to collect all of Yugioh uncut, and they just plain ruined it. THIRD, if this is true, then 4Kids has officially LIED several times. *points to Al Kahn interview at ANN* Uncut dvds for YGO, SK, and OP have all been promised to us several times.

I don't see the point in becoming hopelessly enraged over a rumor (or slightly not even enraged). This isn't official at all.

I move the "Its official" be removed from the topic title. It's misleading. o.O

Maybe not OFFICIALLY official, but it's officially a safe bet. "OHNOZ HE CUT HIS FINGER! WE MUST TURN BANDAID INTO MAGIC HAPPY RING OF GOODNESS AND BUNNIES! NON-RABID BUINNIES!"

If 4Kids said or implied that there would be uncut DVDs of Sonic X, and then said there wouldn't be, then they lied to get people interested in them.

If they said they were considering it, they didn't lie, but they did raise and then dash people's hopes.

Either way, what they've done is pretty low.

I don't know which they said, but that's the long and short of it, whichever one they did say.

Is there a possibility of an uncut release of One Piece?
Yes, definitely

On a similar note, do you have any intentions of releasing any other Japanese series in their original format?
We expect every series we license to be released in its original form.

Yeah. He basically lied.

In all seriousness, I could care less what they do. If they release the uncut versions, fine, If not, good for them too. I have better things to do with my life...:p

If you REALLY want to whine, go to FOTF or AFA...I'm sure they'll listen to you...:^^

4kids treats Sonic like it's only babies who are going to watch it. Tiny, stupid, influential babies. But that was SatAM and so on - Sonic X ISN'T for tiny little babies.

They probably know all the swearwords anyway.

4Kids are marketing Sonic X to the exact same audience it was marketed at in Japan.

Really? I watched half of Sonic X in full japanese and I certainly didn't see too many things, if at all, that made japanese Sonic X more intended for "older" audience. The anime in both (as VCP said) is intended for the same target audience. That's definitly what I saw.

Yeah, but who cares about Pokemon?

Some of Rouge's innuendo lines are a bit iffy, but still, 4Kids is treating Sonic X like it's a new age animated "Lady Chatterly's Lover". If they can't handle it in its pure form, why didn't they let someone else who could take the contract?

I dunno. I thought that the US version of Rouge was just as inneundofull as her Japanese counterpart, especially in the final episode and the Sonic Battle one where Rouge admits to "tiring him out" while they were in a tent ;)

The only real loses from the translation are the kinky lesbian handcuff games Rouge accused Topaz of being into during their first meeting (and that reference was so dang vague it's not worth dwelling on, beyond the noticable blushing reaction of Topaz from hearing it), and the whole "if you're going to live with me, we're going to have to stay up all night" gag in the Chaotix episode (I'm a bat, I'm nocturnal, what the hell did you think I meant?!)

As much as I miss the above 2, it's not like they went out of their way, especially when the episode 52 "tickling" comments were alot more eyebrow raising than the play fighting from the original.

The main factors of Sonic X's translation which are unbarable are the soundtrack changes, and the lack of signs. That's about it, I can easily live with everything else, they have a far better voice acting talent for the characters (ESPECIALLY Lisa Ortiz as Amy, which is a role she was born to play) than the games they're based on.

You know what's funny? Searching the internet, I have found that from every fourm and petition, 4Kids "dubbing problems" are on everybody's mind and are mad at 4Kids for ruining all their favorite shows. Yet in the 4Kids TV fourm, there is no trace of that hate...anywhere. They praise all the anime for being good. Filters anyone???

4Kids fan DO exist. Although why they aren't any haters there in the forum, I have no clue since I don't go to their forums. Maybe they ban those people or something. I don't know.

And I pretty much agree with Craig, although in terms of music, I didn't really care since I wasn't too impressed with the original's to begin with sans a few. The same applied to the dub with lackluster music with few I like (mostly the ones that show in the more dramatic moments). I only wished the dub didn't have to overdramatic the music up.

I care zip about the pokemon anime. It makes my eyes bleed and the same is true for most people once they get into the games or read the pokemon special manga.

Figured.
"It's much too violent for the wonderful little children's thoughts! We cannot dirty their minds with our 13+ shows."
And then your parents and relatives tell you to watch the news. The murder stories, and the rape stories, and all the wonderful violent shooting stories, because then you'll learn about current events. What are those current events? Drugs, depravity, violence, and all that other good stuff we've got going on.
It's all one big lie, this corporation and society.

...*back on topic o_o* I would sort of like to see Shaman King in its original form, but really, I can live without it.

Firing off the same tired arguments of there being "more violence in the media" isn't going to get your Singular Piece (whatev) cartoon show in Japanese on an American DVD. Besides which, cartoons are aimed at kids whatever country you're in, and the last time I checked they didn't put the national news on TV on Saturday mornings and after schools.
