THURSDAY AT 4 PM. BACKYARD BURGER! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!
(bounces up and down)
Oh, thta's good.
I'm thinking of applying to BK myself. Desperate times (or at least, wants) call for desperate measures...
I'm giddy cause it's my first job!
(bounces even more)
Yeah, I can imagine. Yet nobody's hired me yet, so it's a feeling I've yet to experience.
Besides, the more I think about it, the money's the only REAL good out of a first job... other than that, it's just more work.
Congrats on the job hope you enjoy it and spend the earnings wisely.
Prepare to meet your arch-nemesis... TAXES!
Actually, a first job gives you more than just an inflow of cash; it gives you a resume, plus a springboard for going to future jobs.
Besides, I'm pretty sure a fast-food restaurant isn't the WORST place to start out at. I'm grateful for ANY job that comes my way.
(continues the bouncing)
It depends on the fast food joint, of course. :p
I started out in a hospital, and then at Burger King. I am currently at a job I love myself.
Anyways, good luck at your first job! 🙂
SH - Places with "NOW HIRING" are usually your best bet. I only had to put in one app this time. o.o
**Is currently on job #2**
Oh.. and congrats Ultra. Just make sure to not get too careless when on the job and you should be fine.
Yeah, I've tried the "NOW HIRING" places. Doesn't work out to well for me...
Maybe McD's across the street still has THEIR "NOW HIRING" sign out? I dunno, I don't tend to go that far down on Route 1...
Congrats on the first job! Backyard Burgers has yummy food.
My first job was at Applebee's. I worked in the kitchen and yelled in Spanish at the Mexican cooks, who all had crushes on me. They were so cool, I miss them.
Congratulations on your jorb, mahn. ^_^ I hope you have a muchly spiffing time!
But one thing I've never understood: How can people stand to work around food all the time?
I don't know. Maybe they like the smell. Or maybe it's the fact that they can show off by cooking the meal for their friends and family whenever they decide to visit.
I know how that was. If anyone can remember when I got my first job, (Telemarketing, DirecTV, yay), I even posted my SEX-SAY PICTURES of me in my awesome suit and sunglasses. AWWWWWE YEAH. It was a dream come true! I WAS GONNA GET MONAYS!
And then it got boring and old and annoying and taxes almost literally rape you every pay check.
Nonetheless, you now have your own income. Conglashurashuns!
Heh. You got to market satellite dishes. I'm going to flip burgers and work at a cash register whilst dealing with customers who could potentially be obscene types. Lucky you.
The only lucky thing I had was a good pay rate. $9.00 an hour was sweet. But it was fulltime. And there were no breaks in between calls (it was all incoming calls). Once you were done with someone, as soon as he hung up and you went to your next screen, there was someone on the other line ready to go at you trying to find the scam of the day and swearing he knew everything up and down.
Fast food is simple. If you screw an order up, you remake it. If you get yelled at about it, at least it's an easy fix to shut them up. XP
Oh well. I loves my jobs now though. =3 *hugs his ASM position at GameStop*
You? Working at Gamestop?
...
(Bows)
He has become a god... o.o
Congrats on the job and yes taxes and sometimes UNION dues will kill your paycheck (Did I mention how much I hate working for the union?)...that's like a good 50 dollars from a check each week...
Did I mention how much I hate working for the union?
Big fat f--kin' surprise, that is.
You pay taxes, you get a functioning society with a government that protects you from criminals, provides basic health care, and builds the roads you use. You pay union dues, you get an organization that fights to protect your job security, wages, and wellbeing. Governments and unions exist to protect and serve you, not to steal your money.
If I need the UNION of all people to help me keep my job then that shows me that I'm not the right person for my job. The UNION bites especially with this minimum wage junk...and I may think of opening another thread to harp about this issue...

Actually, it indicates that your employers have a history of laying off employees for no good reason.
Actually no. They lay them off for good reasons...darned good reasons...you know like not doing their jobs properly...if you want details I can go into details how things work at my job...
Don't be stupid. If your employers were the decent, honest folks you're describing, then there wouldn't be a union. Unions don't pop out of thin air for no reason. People go to great lengths to form unions because they and the majority of their colleagues feel they are not being treated well by their employers.
If there were no nurses' union, my mum would've been laid off five years ago when the Campbell government suggested the idea as a way to cover the costs of a recent tax cut which -- surprise surprise -- benefited people making far more money than the average.
While I do have my own issues with management and what a lousy job they do, you seem to think the company is evil. The union allows many unsatisfactory workers, workers who don't even do half the effort I put into the job and who still get paid the same amount as me, to stay on the job. Because of the union, you are not guaranteed the wages you deserve especially since the union looks down on incentive based pay and seems to like this seniority piece of junk that is a load of junk...

I've heard so many horror stories based on that, and it's a load of bullcrap. There's two sides of the Union story, though, for ie; Cyke's story there, and she definately benefited from the union. I guess it all depends for what company the union was formed with, etc.

Ahh but have you worked for the union?
I've never heard of Backyard Burger, but it seems to be a fast food place. ;p
Hopefully, you have relative fun at your job. 🙂

Those people are taking advantage of something that's supposed to benefit hardworking people like you. That's not the fault of the union, it's the fault of those people for being lazy and dishonest.

They should do something to remedy this problem, then.

It's like a fast food restaurant (complete with a drive-in), but the food quality and overall atmosphere is a step-up from, say, McDonald's.
Well, I hope you have a better experience than I did a few years back. Those 4 months at McDonald's were literally hell, to the point that since I hated the guy who ran the place so much, rather than quit, I was going to get myself fired by screwing up business.
Come to think of it, I was an immature little dink.
It was hilarious, thoigh.
Since business was slow, I got to go home early (there was no one inside; only thing going on was drive-thru). Half the time was spent with paperwork, the other half was spent on learning how to work the register, cook the fries, make the shakes, prepare the bags, etcetera.
People were quite nice; almost like some of the jokesters of the forum.
