Today is year's worst day

Having a bad day? No wonder. According to one scientist, Monday, Jan. 23, is the gloomiest day of 2006.Cliff Arnall, a health psychologist at the University of Cardiff in Wales, has devised a formula to calculate the year's emotional low point.
Arnall said in January people are simply working, without parties or holidays to look forward to. They are struggling not only with bleak weather but also with holiday debts.
Many are starting to feel like failures because they've already broken New Year resolutions.
The formula looks like this:
[W + (D-d)] x TQ (over)
M x NA
The variables are (W)eather, (D)ebt, (d) monthly salary, (T)ime since Christmas, time since failure to (Q)uit a bad habit, low (M)otivational levels and (NA), the need to take action.
"All these elements converge to make for a very unhappy day on the 23rd of January," Arnall said.
He said his formula holds true for the United States as well as Britain, except perhaps in places such as Texas, Florida or California where better weather could help to lift the day's depressing mood.
But Arnall said there are ways to beat the January blues.
Instead of trying to turn over the same old new leaf every New Year's Day, he suggested, why not resolve to make a change in a different month, such as March or April?
"I also advise people to do the unusual every January," he said. "Go for a walk in the woods or just get out and about."
It might be expected that a formula for unhappiness would be created in Britain . According to Ruut Veenhoven, a sociologist at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands, and creator of a new "life satisfaction index," Britain ranks below 20 other nations when it comes to happiness.
The index, which asked people in 90 countries to rate how happy they were on a scale of 1 to 10, found Malta to be the happiest country, with the United States ranking 13th alongside Guatemala, Norway and Uruguay.
Interestingly enough, yesterday actually was an awful day for me.
Anyone else have a bad day yesterday?
Actually, 23 is one of my friends b-days, so that's always something to celebrate in the past (I live in a seperate town now...) And it was the last day of exams. So I had a good time =D

It felt like a late spring day today, I ran around outside and played and laughed. It was lovely. So it holds true that Texas is awesome.
the power cut out for a second twice yesterday, causing my computer to mess up badly. i realised i had 5 projects to hand in this week, not 3. it was cold, i was tired, and i found out that i'll only have about 100 to live on until easter. ^.x;
so yes, yesterday sucked.
Hmm. Depends on where you live.
For us Chinese (though I've been a Singaporean citizen all my life), we have Chinese New Year in January. It's the most important holiday for us, because we have red packets containing MUNNEH to look forward to. ^^
But yes, I didn't have too good a day. I quit my job. o.o
So that's why the Conservatives won the election.
Nope, I had a pretty good day, yesterday, like I do most of the time. Got off earlier and had a good revival service last night, so I am either too optimistic to have a bad day or I'm the exception to the rule.
I had a pretty crap day yesterday, actually. o.o Although I don't think anything within the equation factors in as anything major as to why n__N
EDIT: Wait, that was the 24th yesterday, wasn't it? 😡
Monday (23rd) wasn't all too bad, as I recall. Hm.
Eh, it wasn't too bad. I didn't have a double maths lesson like I usually do on a Monday morning because my teacher was away, so that was good. I went round my mate's house and got thrashed on Halo 2...But that happens every Monday, Environmental Science lesson was always boring, but at least it wasn't just me in the lesson this week, and English was just average.
Not really a bad day, just slightly above average for a Monday I think.
It was jsut like any other crappy day of the year.
The worst day? Not when it's your girlfriend's birthday! Well, specifically the girl who you hope will someday be your girlfriend. That was one of the best days ever. I think my chances with her increased to upwards of 50%. Proving once again, that science can never be completely right, as everything is relative.
hahaha @ Cyc.. so true.
I think it's pretty interesting. I don't know how it works in post-secondary schools in the States/UK and abroad, but they give us a reading week second semester to give students just that: Something to look forward to.
There's no denying how much January sucks. There really isn't anything good in there... you just have to hope you got that one great present you'd been asking for since November, and it's being put to good use, and hopefully isn't back in its box collecting dust in your room.
And somewhere in all of this cold anguish, we're supposed to muster up some love by February 14th?
Let's see. Snowed on Friday. So it got crappilly cold. That day sucked driving home.
Monday... hmm. Worked, 2 to close. Got home, happy for it to be monday night since I got the next two days off..
Hmm, granted, it sucks that I'm in so much debt right now, but I'm alright. That's why it's good to plan. Always. Don't care who you are. 😛 ANd I'm the biggest procrastinator in the world ^_^

I disagree. I think the amount of fresh powder we're getting on the slopes right now more than makes up for the idiots who just got elected, the crappy weather at sea level, and the wicked hangover I had on new year's day.
