So, because I'm bored and procrastinating, and feel like posting something other than daft tangental comments, heres a topic. Comics. Which ones do you read? Why? Do you think comics are a modern media much unapreciated in the critical eye, or to you consider them a load of old tosh read by children and people who refuse to grow up?
Now, I read a lot of webcomics, and because I am, as I said, procrastinating, I'm gonna go through them all. I aint gonna link them, as I can't remember exactly which have suitable content in the archives and whotnot. But, whatever.
So, in no particular order, except that this is how they lie in my bookmarks, my daily checklist:
1)Sluggy Freelance by Pete Abrams - Do I really need to go into detail on this one? I love Sluggy, I'd buy the book collections if I wasn't so cheap.
2)Team Nexus by Killerfish - A strange, mediocre comic about some scientists. It has the occasional good laugh though. It's nothing special.
3)College Roomies from Hell!!! by Maritza Campos - <3 CRFH. It's about, unsuprisingly, some rather odd college roomies, and their ongoing battle against mutation, satan, the grading curve and Mike's mom. (Listed in order of danger).
4)General Protection Fault by Jeff Darlington - GPF is.. eh. It can range from exceedingly dramatic and downright funny, to dull and uninteresting. It's a little hit and miss, but it knows what it's doing most of the time =3
5)El Goonish Shive by Dan Shive - EGS was, I think, the first webcomic I read on a regular basis. Concerning the lives of a group of friends whose lives are pretty much turned topsy turvy by the arrival of one cute girl. Who happens to be a shapeshifting government project =3 Unfortunatly it's been dragging through a birthday party storyline for a while now, but *shrugs*
6)Jack by David Hopkins - WARNING Jack is not for the easily offended. It's a grim, bleak set of stories revolving around Death (whose name is Jack) and Hell. The use of blood, guts and sex is sometimes quite crass and needless (though sometimes its totally justified and makes sense), but it makes up for it with having some really good and interesting (and really sad) stories.
7)Nukees by Darren Bleuel - A comic about...nuclear engineers? Nukees is good fun, and has an evil Guiness drinking mad scientist as the protagonist, how can I not love it.
8)Black Tapestries by Jakkel - An epic tale of a bandity type woman cursed with both immortality, and a habit of changing into a furry (or Katief as they are known in that world.) Seeing as she is completly racially prejeduced against furs, it's rather interesting. And theres all sorts of complicated crap going on as well, it's a cool story.
9)The Foxfire Chronicles by Luke Turner - A group of people are kidnapped and experimented on turning them into furries, from where they meet an underground society of shapeshifters, and get involed in some mythical stuff. I don't know where this one is going really, *shrugs* It's meh.
10)Ctrl+Alt+Del by Tim Buckly - Next
11)The Order of the Stick by Rich Burlew - A stick figure comic about Dungeons and Dragons adventurers. Also, hilarious.
12)Indavo by Nathan Bonner (hehehe, Boner) - A space adventure! It has pirates and robots and a timetraveller in a big hat! And it looks pretty.
13)Untitled! by Gloria Pike - A furry comic, I don't really know how to describe it, so I'll go with emo roomies meats inderdimensional goverment conspiricies. o.o That dosn't do it justice, but I don't know where to begin.
14)Funny Farm by R. Smith - A boarding house full of odd people, evil megacorparations, and one of the greatest villains ever. Also, it's funny, as well as being awsome.
15)Evil Inc. by Brad Guigar - It's about supervillains run as a corperation. *shrugs* It's funny, but hit and miss.
16)Schlock Mercenary by Howard Tayler - Ahhhh, I love Scholck Mercenary. It's got science fiction, good stories, excellent (and sometimes very, very clever) humour, cute fuzzy psychotic koalas, and healthy amounts of BLAM! If you don't read this, you should. Also it's updated every day without fail for over six years.
17)Anti-hero for Hire by Mark Shallow - The title never fails to draw me into this one =3 It's shows how you don't need superpowers if you look broody, and carry a really big gun. It also delves into just how stupid some villains really are. The only downpoint is that the artwork dosn't really do it justice =S
18)Adventurers! by Mark Shallow - It's about what is basically a Final Fantasy game. It's sometimes quite funny though, but sometimes it really isn't =S. But the ending has been dragged out so very long, and I'm thankful it's nearly over.
19)PvP by Scott Kurtz - Again, next
20)Zebra Girl by Joe England - <3<3<3 Zebra Girl is a beutifully drawn comic in black and white, about a girl that gets transformed into a demon in a magical accident. I'd love to see this become a live action TV series, if it was done well. Also Broadshoulders is more badass than Batman.
21)S.S.D.D. by Alan Foreman - It's awsome, that's all you need to know. The humour can sometimes be vulgar and crass, but it just adds to the charm, and the storyline is complex and grabbing. Also it's british, and probably above board limit, so beware.
22)Ozy and Millie by D.C. Simpson - If you don't know Ozy and Millie, then shame on you. I like it because it's childish, yet not at the same time =3
23)Eight to One by B. Duffy - It's got a depressing gritty style that draws me in. It's got no out of the ordinary, zany wacky adventures, it's just some depressing students. And I love it =3
24)Blue Crash Kit by Hamm, Henry and Glewwe - It's about a superheroic uh, triplet? Trivium? Some lucky Wolf and his two girlfriends anyway. The situations in this are downright bizarre, but it's been a while since I got a chuckle out of it, and the art is all very, samey. I may drop it.
25)The End of Things by Christopher S Nilitham(??) - Again, a vaugely dark, gritty style, about some students without any wacky adventures, just everyday student problems. Again, I love it =3
26)Dan and Mab's Furry Adventures by Amber Panyko - As you've probably noticed, if it's got furries in it, I'll usually give it a try. However it is the sad truth that a lot of comics suck =( This dosn't however, this can be really, really funny.
27)8-bit Theatre by Brian Clevinger - I'm sure that you all know this one. I just find that it can be consistently funny.
28)Bob and George by Dave Anez(sp?) - Again, I'm sure you all know this. It's sometimes funny, but it's more often childish =S On a tangental note, I'm living with a Bob and George next year.
29)MSPaint Masterpieces by Disgruntled Fe - Probably my favourite sprite comic, ever. A retelling of the Megaman games, but done really, really well. Also, funny. B&G subcomic.
30)Full Fusion Canon by Crimson Rain - Another retelling Sprite comic, though it seems this one is using some quite original ideas whilst doing it. Also, funny. Unfortunatly it seems to have become horribly lax in updating =( B&G subcomic.
31)Faux Pas by Carspecken - Eh, it's an okayish comic about some domesticated animals. *shrugs*
32)Shortpacked! by Davi - I'm Batman.
33)The Suburban Jungle by John Robey - A furry comic about a supermodel, and her life in general. It's got it's moments, but I'm considering dropping it from my list cause it's just become dull =(
34)Lang Lang by Jodi Tong - I'm note sure why I even still read this one. It's dull, I just think I havn't got round to dropping it yet.
35)Girl Genius by Studio Foglio - Mmmmmm... Steampunk. I like GG, both 101 and Advanced, it's dramitic, funny, colourful, and has mad scientists out the wazoo. Also Jagerkin for the win.
36)Comedity by Garth Graham - It's damned pretty, and can be really funny, but updates about once a century =
37)Kevin and Kell by Bill Holbrook - Widely known and respected, but another one I'm considering dropping. It's just... stopped being fun =S
38)The Nerdening by Stank - A very... odd comic. An interesting idea, and well executed, but odd. I'll let it's title as Earth on Hell speak for it.
39)The Wotch by Anne Onymous and Robin Ericson - This is another odd one. It's storylines are interesting and fun, but sometimes just seem like an excuse to transform as many people into other things as possible o.o
40)Abby' by Mark Mekkes/Tiffany Ross - Another one on my Might Drop list. It's about a spy agency, but it seems to have lost whatever funny it once had =
41)Supermegatopia by The Brothers Grinn - It's about a city of superheroes, and it's funny. Though it's definatly above board limit, and goes heavy on the cleavage. But with heroes like Boxem Gal, it's to be expected. Also contains Crushed, which is about some fantasy world, and They Might be Giant Robots, which pokes all sorts of fun at Transformers. Also, kiwis.
42)Gaming Guardians by Graveyard Greg and Webtroll - Another odd one, it's about some people who go in and out of tabletop gaming systems fighting evil, and then branches into extremly complicated over-reaching storylines. It's good stuff, but sometimes confusing. Also The Crimson Jester is creepier than LNR in a flesh coloured thong, making out with Sally.
43)Freefall by George Peterson - Ahh, Sam, the kleptomanic, charming alien. Freefall is just entertaining in general really.
44)Zortic by Mark Mekkes - Zortic consists entirely of obvious parodies, and mind rending puns. It's a good old fashioned groan-along.
45)Chopping Block by Lee Adam Herold - It's everything one can expect from a single panal comic about a serial killer. One just cannot help but smile as our masked protagonist realises he brought the wrong type of gutting hook.
46)GU Comics by Woody Hearn - It's a videogaming comic. It's the usual meh.
47)Indefensable Positions by Remus Shepherd - ODD ODD ODD! A strange battle of chaos against order, good agaisnt evil, Perverts against the government. A cool factor is how the art improves as the comic gets more complex, but the less complex characters stay the same o.o
48)The Adventures of Dr McNinja by Chris Hastings and Kevin Archer. I think. - He's a Doctor. And a ninja. Nuff said.
49)Furthia High by QuetzaDrake - Blah. Seemed an interesting concept, the last human kid in a world of furries, going to a high school, where he'd have an obvious disadvantage. Unfortunatly it's weapons grade popups, bleh art, and mediocre writing mean this one will be dropped as well if it dosn't buck it's ideas up }=O
50)Two Dorms Down by Brian Chin - I honestly can't remember why I read this. It must have something, cause I don't want to drop it o.o
51)Zoology by Nathan Birch - Mediocre to entertaining comic about some critters in a zoo. *shrugs*
52)Woods for the Trees by Thom Jones - Comic about some woodland canines, and a dog. Can be pretty funny at times.
53)Exterminatus Now by Virus, Silv, Lothar and Eastwood - EN, EN, EN. It's danged funny. Also, you probably know it. ;P
54)Fletcher Apartments by John Stelter - Another furry roomies comic. Nothing particularly special.
55)Sorcery 101 by Kel McDonald - This one's a crafty little guy, I never remember it, but really enjoy it. It's about wizards and vampires and werewolfs and cigarettes.
56)Gigaville by Chris Doucette - LIQVUIIIID! MANTIS IS MAKINK ZOOOOMBIES!
57)InSONICnia by Kajin - Childish stupidity. =3
58)Twokinds by Tom Fischbach - An amesiac human saves the life of a tigress during a time when they are at war, or something. Adventures and tension ensues. It's good.
59)Eon's Comic by Ben Turner (or Lord Eon ;P) - I don't check this one everyday, I usually wait untill I'm really in the mood for some heavy reading and political intrigue. Wordiest sprite comic, ever. S'cool though.
60)Better Days by Jay Naylor - It's not just eye candy! Stop looking at me like that! *fleeeee*
61)Akaelae by Shivae Studios - An odd one again, I wanna see where it's going
62)Rob and Elliot by Clay - It makes me chuckle occasionally, *shrugs*
63)Two Lumps by Grant and Hynes - It's about cats, it's funny. What more do you want? Lasange?
64)Friendly Hostility by K. Fuhr - I like the drawing style, and the fact that having a demon as a character seems more normal than the rest of the cast. Also evil hats are cool.
65)Philosophy Monkey by Paul Lovell (Buzzbomber =D) - It's got constantly funny formula, it's not amazing, but it makes me smile every time.
66)Sandusky by John Prengaman Jr - Theres just something intrinsically funny about a guy owning a moutain lion in a small apartment.
67)Questionable Content by J. Jaques - It's a cynical, sacasm overdose. I love. Also Coffee of Doom? Genious.
68)Crikey Duck by Tania Walker and Vicki Eden - Funny, beutifully drawn, with an interesting story and entertaining characters... and about to be dropped. Because it updates less ofen than Comedity.
69)Stage Select: When Masters Attack by Michelle Rochon - It's about Robot Masters. Yay.
70)NeverNever by John Robey and Susan Rankin - Eh, It was funny, and it's just re-started, so I'm seeing if it gets any good.
71)Vinci and Artie by Candy and Ryan DeWalt - I think it's the Awwwwww factor. Definatly the Awwww factor.
72)5ideways by K Fuhr - Weeeeiiiiirrrrd. But Axotl is awsom. Spcially his spch impdimnt. Also the story is really intriguing.
73)Dominic Deegan by Mookie - Another epic one. With such bad, BAD puns, you can't help but love it.
Anyway, that's wasted like, two and a half hours o.o Though it takes me an hour or so to check the list each day, and it's the shortest it's been in a while ^^; I do occasionally check VGcats, Penny Arcade, Power Rings and Sabrina Online, but I only do it once a month or so.
Outside the web I generally only rent trade paperbacks from the library, leaning mostly on Batman and Judge Dredd, but pretty much grabbing anything that takes my fancy.
So, what about you, do you read any of the above? To you disagree with some of my choices for reading? Do you want to hurt me for making such a huge post about nothing?
Also, I'm Batman.
Some of those I've seen a bit of, and some I haven't.
My current favorite is Sam and Fuzzy by Sam Logan. It's a lot of fun and has an ongoing story that's surprisingly compelling.
I check Chip and Walter and Time Trouble by Dubs every week in hopes that someday it will update again.
I dunno if this counts as a comic, but Tailsteak.com is the blog of Mason Williams, featuring multiple ongoing comics. I am also a huge fan of his old project, One Over Zero, which everyone should read in its entirity.
As far as paper comics, I read the Sonic titles out of fan loyalty. I also read Bone until its completion a couple years back and I think everyone should give that a look. Every so often I'll thumb through some of the more popular Marvel or DC titles.
Why no links? ;_;

Google is your friend, HPA.
And GOOD LORD CRIMSON, do you read all of those regularly? You're mad!
Lessee...ones that Crimson missed.
Sore Thumbs Online. Political commentary made by people who work in a video game store. Nonsensical and often funny.
Van Von Hunter. Hunter of evil stuff. Has a sidekick who has...AMENSIA (gasp)! His archenemy is The Flaming Prince (snicker) who has just now crushed a quantum singularity. Or something. All in all, nicely drawn (they have two manga volumes in stores!), and funny.
w00tness. A fanboy's comic. Laden with cameos from Halo, Predator, Starcraft, Star Wars, Star Trek, Anime Cliches (hammerspace and reality-bending technologies!), Invader Zim (yes, ZIM), along with a smattering of demons...but instead of having fun with all of this, they'd just rather sit on a beat-up old couch they got from a pirate treasure horde (or did they get it from Zim?) and play video games.
Also...
One One Se7en. It's done in MS Paint. It's usually three panels long. It's Halo-based. So why is it here?
Because...somehow...Stuntmutt (the artist and writer) has managaed to make a pun out of EVERYTHING. I have never seen so much corn in one place. EVER.
Edit: Sore Thumbs and w00tness, FYI, are the only ones that might have some objectionable content in the archives.
Yeah.. no linking Jack. I love that comic to death but it about as appropriate for the board as Ultra's Naruto fanfiction.
Untitled... You read it, huh? Please tell me you didn't see the gerbil punting spoof. >.>
Yep Ben, I at least check each of those every damn day.
One I forgot to mention, but holds a place dear to my heart, is the long ended,The Class Menagerie. It's a beuty.
Anywhom, I'll be checking out those suggestions soon =D I just came in to post this:
HPA x Rouge: DISCUSS!
Okay, I won't tell you ;P
Crimson, your list is totally incomplete without quite possibly one of the funniest comics on the net(in certain news publications).
Seriously you need to add that link in your bookmarks. I mean how can you go wrong with this:
or this:
or even this:
Note, a few certain strips maybe in the PG-15 territory, but it is not too bad.
LANCASTER THE GHOST DETECTIVE! I was gonna advatirse it but I was too lazy! Go to SpiderForest.com and find lancaster, now updated 6 days a week! I sent him a e-mail for Question Qouner (Were you send him 'letters' and he draws a comic with lancaster answering them)and he was happy to have new fans/readers. It been up for 4 years and just passed it 400th pg! READ IT NOW! EDIT:Links removed due to not working.

EDIT... WTF?!? But I didn't hit quick reply... why did it make a post ><
I hate you.
I only check a few comics online...
Exterminatus Now is probably my favorite webcomic.
PennyPenny Arcade is also pretty good...
>> that about sums up the webcomics I check...
Pearls Before Swine is currently my favorite newspaper comic.
The strip is just hilarious. It's the only one that keeps me laughing week after week.
XD @ comic strips.
Crimmy you need to warn TUS about Untitled. The Xe and Ciaran scene would probably blow his mind. :3
~Rico

-EGS

My others I keep in my bookmarks are
LVLUP! - a Final Fantasy XI comic done by the author of the Gold Digger series. Funny if you play FFXI.
Anime Arcadia - psycho evil catgirl brought to life by unseen forces. Hilarity ensues.
Plague's Misadventures - a subcomic in B&G about 21XX
The Karnak Hates Everything Show -another subbie in B&G. Commentary about life from hell. Funny too.
Metroid: Third Derivative - another B&G subcomic about Samus Aran's seemingly final showdown with the Phazon crisis. Has a talking metroid >.>
RPG World Comic - really nice comic about RPGs and their cliches. On hiatus
Wapsi Square - supernatural things and booze. lots of both.
Zap! In Space - a really good story about an amnesatic psion trying to find his way around the universe with a crew as the world they live in seems to be prepping for a trip into chaos.
VG Cats - ah, video game humor.
Dungeons & Denizens - RPG dungeons from the monster's POV. It's basically the story of a minoutaur who gets a job as tech support in a RPG dungeon. Very funny.
Stardroids.net - Rockman comic with varying story arcs, mostly set in Classic and X storylines.
Abnormal Gravity - strange SD silliness set in the Rockman Classic universe.
Enker's Tale - a webcomic about Enker as a Hunter in 21XX
Megaman X: Down Time - The cast of Rockman X: Command Mission set to comedy. Good comedy. Subcomic on Stage Select's page.
Unsure were I found him, probably linked via Jack. But yes, I keep up on Lancaster.
That reminds me. Has everyone donated to Jack yet?
~Rico
Uh.. I already put a link to lancaster here Rico. It's cool. Lancaster & Dane is so cute . EDIT: The links I posted was not working. Thanks Rico!

Explain.
RPG world will never be updated as far as we can tell. oo
Grim Tales From Down Below. A serious take on the Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy universe. It's quite entertaining...and it features Jack Skellington, and Oogie Boogie! That alone makes it pure win.
Not a problem.
I webcomics I read are Cox & Forkum, Ctrl+Alt+Del, Elftor, FoxTrot (the newspaper I get doesn't have it so I read it online), MoonDog, Ozy and Millie, Penny Arcade, Press Start to Play, PvP, Spamusement, Ugly Hill (highly reccomended reading) and VG Cats.
I used to read alot more, but I got sidetracked and/or didn't feel like reading through the entire archive.
I swear, the most boring days I spent on the the computer were when I read through PA and PvP's eight year archives. 😛
I just read the Sonic and Sonic X comics from Archie. Also, every so often when I 'm at work, I'll look at the comic strips in the local paper when I have free time which includes the Boondocks, Mallard Fillmore, Garfield, etc.

Perry Bible Fellowship
I love PBF. I've been rereading through the archives just today, in fact.
Other favourites...
Ozy and Millie
possibly the only webcomic to even consider approaching the wonder of Calvin and Hobbes.
Lego + pop culture + science + self-referentiality + annotations + best poll questions ever = sheer brillance
And though it's probably not quite the geekiest webcomic on the net, sometimes it gets pretty close...
Sinfest
Beautiful artwork, with strips that raneg from the incredibly cute to the quite offensive... and with those little phrases above each strip, you get two jokes for the price of one! Bargain!
Girl Genius
Only got into this recently. I'm very much looking forward to the time when the 101 and Advanced classes finally link up...
White Ninja Comics
It's brilliant yet it MAKES NO SENSE. It's brilliant because it MAKES NO SENSE.
Kevin and Kell
I was utterly obsessed with this a couple of years ago. But I began to go off it when it stopped the ridiculously convoluted plot-advancing stories, and started to focus on the really quite repatitive single gag strips.
Dinosaur Comics
It's amazing what you can do with the same few panels over and over again, isn't it?
