My Little Rant

I just want to express my disappointment for the way people express themselves on this board.

I'm a bona fide lurker. I read more posts from a lot more people than anyone likely realizes. I often go a long time without posting, but I read a high percentage of what is said here and in Marble Garden.

To me, I've always felt fortunate to come to this forum because despite the childlike nature of the board and its theme, there are a lot of really interesting people with some thought-provoking things to say. Some of you are virtual knowledge-dictionaries, and I love reading some the posts here.

But ever since I started coming here (I don't even know how long ago), I've felt this discomfort whenever I feel like posting. Some of you guys are really ignorant when it comes to the opinions of other people; It's one thing to disagree, but the message I see a lot of the time is "no, you're wrong, you're a loser".

Come on, now. I worked for a year as a sports writer, I know what it's like to have an editor breathe down your neck, and I got used to ensuring that each word I write down is correct in every possible sense; politically, grammatically, factually..

But God as my witness, this board is far worse than any editor I've ever worked for. No, this sort of post-bashing hasn't happened to me, at least not in recent memory. I haven't been the one cut up. But I see people writing interesting posts that I'd love to respond to, but before I can get the chance, there's about 4 people yelling at them, all holding a different version of the Britannica or Websters or whatever the hell reference book they have, quoting what somebody else said without even giving their reasoning or their end of the argument. That's just gutless if you ask me.

Step off. Seriously. So many people here are standing on their inflated egos and they look down on everyone. If you want to contest what someone has to say, there are ways of doing it without making people feel like complete wastes of skin.

And you know what, I'm not giving you 'reference-books' any more credibility than the next person. I don't know who you think you're impressing, but it sure as hell isn't this guy.

I want to point out that I'm not targeting anyone in particular with this. In fact, I'm not sure if I could even name one person who's doing this any more than someone else. But based on what I've been reading and the comments at the Visitors' Centre, I felt something should be said, because I'm not the only one who's fed up.

Carry on. :thumbsup

It's just the MoFo Righteous Ranting Fury, when we play, we play hard :D

Debates usually get too hot to handle in these parts, best thing to do is avoid them and stick to the more lighthearted discussions :D

Debates suck. Look around in Marble and you'll see weirdos like Dubs and myself trying to lighten some of the more hotheaded ones up.

Personally I don't hardly read marble. People are too uptight in there. Of course some of them are too uptight all over the board. I think most people noticed this and some have left over it. People can't have fun anymore, they take everything as an insult and cry around to get attention off it.

I try not even to take INSULTS like insults, I have had people go too far and get me into raging emo furball fury mode. But that doesn't happen that much, I can only think of one poster that went that far in the last year or so.

People just need to chill out. It's like Jack Thompson's suing of doom is the new fad or something.

I stay out of debates, never ignore them, but get pissed off when people forget that tact costs nothing.

I also no longer mind short-ass posts like this one. o.o

Personally I think when someone says something utterly retarded, like "atheists treat evolution as a religion and a fact", and "marriage is a Christian concept", they fully deserve whatever response they get and shouldn't go whine to the staff unless a rule has been broken outright -- and even then, if such a thing occurs, the staff usually gets around to dealing with it anyways. I've always said, if you're not going to grow a brain, grow a thicker skin. Seriously.

Personally I don't hardly read marble.
Rico, have you been listening to country music again?

I'll be honest, I don't post in Marble. Still, wouldn't surprise me if the attitude was around elsewhere, too.

I don't know, I've honestly seen more worse boards--WAY worse boards--then this one, which is why I come here often (and not just because I've been here for years).
I don't go to boards where I feel the sheer level of "stupidity" has gone off the charts because my one little voice will not be enough to them people over here, whether they be trolls or people who egos that size of Jupiter.

You have a chance of being a silly boy. You're either being over-sensative to something or I haven't seen the posts you mean.

I see lots of posts. =o

Come to that, it's been a long time since I went to Marble.
It was a fairly relaxed place a couple of years ago, though...

...a couple of years ago it was the forum everyone seemed to either discuss their love life (the main topics) or how women/girls are stereotyped (the minor topics). Marble is now the philosophical/political/social forum where the love life stuff that used to dominate the place is routinely kicked out. ;p

All I ask is that people stop being asses about what music other people listen to. o.o

...As well as blantantly and ignorantly insulting people with religious morals.

Hey, the Marble Garden is now where people go to say...

"Homosexuality is evil! Gay people go to hell because they have a choice!"

OR...

"George Bush is an angel/a demonic entity/a prospective dictator/savious of America!"

OR...

"Animals are cute and we must stop animal testing now!"

Or "What's wrong with being gay/porn/abortion/fat people/pedophilia/having a Twinkie fetish"?

Truth at the most. I myself try to get involved in some of those debates but I find myself ignored most of the time. Yeah, I know I didn't know how to debate at the begining of this year, and it happens when I've debated those times. But seriousily, people should learn to respect someones opinnion while crushing it at the same time.

And yes, Luke I know that was in reference to me. And I know, I was a little twit when I criticized Nirvana. I just had to get through at the time; that Nickelback, or whatever was what genre you were posting them as. My apoligies for that, and the MP3 dicussion on DA that was supposed to be a little joke.

At one time, having "religious morals" often meant supporting the enslavement of black people and oppression of women.

Yes, and it also meant that it was perfectly fine to burn or hang anyone, as long as we thought they were witches. :)

Actually, that was more of a reference to Wes. =P

And I'm glad we're not living in those days anymore.
