.....to meet Doug Flutie.

Who's Doug Flutie, you ask? Well, he's a professional football player who has played for various teams, including the San Diego Chargers. He's the guy with the Hail Mary shot. And he's extreeeemely short - I almost towered over him.

But I wasn't in Boston to gawk at his height. No, I was there to promote the movie I'm in and auction off artwork at his annual fund raiser, along with Jocelyn, Vanessa and my mother.

It was verrrry interesting, let me tell you guys! The place we went to - Lucky Strike Lanes, which is a chic club/lounge/bowling alley. Lots of Boston elites, Patriots players and Sport Illustrated guys. And Joey Travolta. Lots of Joey Travolta because we spent half the night with him just talking about ourselves. It was pretty awesome. And scary because he and his brother (if he were there) knew all the areas we've lived in and knew of Jocelyn's college. Which says a lot because no one knows about Jocelyn's college. >_>

I didn't get to bowl (ah well) and I admittedly was annoyed because a lot of people (there were five hundred people) didn't seem to care about what was going on. For example, people were talking pretty loud, but we previewed the movie I'm in (the directors of the film were with us watching) and PEOPLE STARTED TALKING LOUDER. So they could drown out the "noise". Almost nobody was paying ANY attention to it whatsoever.

That and the auction, which the donations went to the Flutie Jr. Foundation - Jocelyn told me that a lot of people were just joking around when they put in bids for stuff. It was a big joke to them, and both she and I realized that the reason why a LOT of people came here wasn't because they actually believed in what was going on - they just wanted to flaunt their wealth, eat classy hor d'ourves and drink at a free bar the whole night. I mean, people were just....drinking and talking and not paying attention to anything that was going on!

And a lot of the stuff that was being auctioned off, I'd have given my left arm for. Some nice vacations, and especially seat at an SI banquet with Tiger Woods and Tom Brady in NYC (which was tonight >_>) - seriously, I think the winning bet for that one barely went over the original starting amount. I know plenty of people out there who'd be more appreciative than 80-90 percent of the attendees at this banquet probably were.

It was really disheartening for me, but also for almost everyone who was with my family, too - none of the art (including mine) got sold, for example, as far as I know. And the live auctioneer had to practically keep reminding people about the other, philantropic reason they were (supposed to be) there for. I swear, if I ever get rich and I become that shallow, I give you all permission to shoot me. I think it would be better for the human race.

(I was on the other side of the room so I didn't see the 'businessman joking' part of it, but I heard the auction - the guy kept trying to shush everyone and was really, really loud. Like that was going to stop people from talking. It didn't work in high school, it won't work here.)

But...it wasn't a total loss. I did get to meet Doug Flutie myself, after the movie preview. He was pretty nice, and he took my five minute drawing of him in a Chargers' suit on a cocktail napkin with great stride. I also saw him pass us several times in the back hallway when I was sitting with Vanessa (becaise the live auction was so loud), prepping for the rest of the silent auction (as there were two auctions - the silent one, which my pictures were part of, and the live one, which, as I mentioned above, kind of pissed me off).

And.......Doug Flutie signed one of my pictures. One of the pictures that didn't sell. One that shall be auctioned off soon online, to a much more appreciative crowd. And my name is right next to it. 😀

I have some more info - like pictures of some of this stuff - but I shall leave you guys right now with our trip to Boston. My mom decided to use Mapquest to get to our hotel, and I'd just like to show you a route similation of that trip to the hotel in rush hour traffic:

And there you go. oo;

Sorry to hear about how carelessly they treated the situation, but Doug sounds cool. And while it was really stressful at the time, that map looks hilarious XD Reminds me of when my bro and I were trying to get to my mission companion's wedding in Indiana, we tried to get out of the city we stayed overnight in but we got turned around in the morning and it took us a while just to get out of it.

Glad to have you back home though, hopefully things work out.

I'm glad you got to meet Flutie (he seems like such a sweet guy and has a wicked throwing arm!) and am sorry the auction didn't go better. You'd think people would be thrilled at a chance to buy great art, and at the same time helping autistic kids.

That sounds like what I'm so used to when I hear/go to Boston. A bunch of wanna-be uppity snobs who THINK --Keyword here being think--they have all this money and so can treat every function they attend like its their own private living room. Why go if all yer going to do is be loud and inconsiderate -.-...

I'm disheartened to hear that not much of your artwork sold Coox {I just decided to spell your abbreviated name like that cause I canD"> }

But no matter, as you said, you'll be selling it to a much more appreciative crowd. And the evening wasn't a total loss. You got some perks out of it?

But umm that map...where's the part wher you loop through the northern part of Connecticut to go whereever the hell you were going xD

It went along the way of the part of the route where we crossed the Atlantic and ended up in Liberia. :p

Anyways, OMG I HAVE TWO PICTURES.

Me with the director and his family. The director is the one up on top; he is EXTREMELY TALL. Like, over a foot taller than me tall. But he's cool. 🙂

The picture that was signed. Yay! 😀

It must've been pretty cool to meet Flutie, sounds like it was fun! I hate inconsiderate people, they should get a good talking-to. ;P

When I think of Doug Flutie, the first thing that comes to mind is the 1984 Boston College-Miami game and his miracle Hail Mary on the very last play. That's one of the greatest finishes ever in the history of college football.
