Lookie lookie, the newspaper I worked for published a column I wrote about NaNoWriMO.
If you have trouble reading the picture, try going to this link and selecting page 3.
Yes, that is my desk at work, and yes those are my hands. If I knew the photographer was going to show everyone what a slob I was, I would've tidied up a bit
I've added to my excerpt. It now contains chapters one and eight (it was previously just chapter eight). The link is above!
Well I'm liking what you've got ^^ Again, when/if you feel like sharing this eventually, I'd love to read the whole thing, now you've got me intrigued. >3 Oh, and poemtry is possibly the greatest word I've seen all day.
In the meantime, I've got an excerpt of mine up as well (though it's been there for days, so anyone remotely interested probably has seen it already, but if not), showing here.
Oh, and I'm less than a thousand words away from you at the time of writing this post :O Insane writing day has caught me up.
~Shadowed Spirit Sage
Wow. Week 2 is working backwards on you, I see.
I read your excerpt a little while ago. I'm interested to see what's going on.
As far as people reading my novel, as a general rule I allow it at least a couple days to sit then I go back and read it. I make minor clean up, then I let folks read it if they're interested. So I hope to share this when I'm done.
EDIT 12 NOV:
I hit 25k! Halfway there!
Don't you all think there's a certain point in the writing of any novel after which it becomes really easy to continue/finish? Hope you all are over the hump! Me, i'll finish my novella at my own leisurely pace ;p
In terms of NaNoWriMo, almost all Wrimos identify that point as 35,000 words. The reason for that is because if your goal is 50k, then 35k is when you know your novel is entering it's "third act," and that means it's time to resolve your conflicts.
35,000 feels good. Real good.
I have officially given up, bleh. If only I'd have worked as hard as I did on my first day on like, any other day, instead of doing absolutly bupkiss ^^;

Ideas that seemed neat in your head seem increadibly stupid after commiting them to the computer screen, suddenly your brain realises it's in to deep and starts plotting against the novel
Ain't that the truth.
Well, I've long since given up on finishing this within the month. I am happy though in that I am making daily incremental progress, which is more than I can say for many writing projects in the past. I just don't want to think too much on that November deadline, I'd rather sqay to myself, it's done when it's done.

Didn't Dirk or someone else mention, earlier in this thread, that some people join in like the last week and finish writing everything in one psychotic spurt?
Of course, I didn't even bother to join the competition, so perhaps I shouldn't be the one to mention this
That's very true. Some do it in two days. Someday I'll do that. Someday.
EDIT 18 NOV
Well, I now have over 36,000. For the arithmetically disinclined, that means I already passed 35,000. As I mentioned earlier, 35,000 is the "magic number" at which point it's all downhill.
And I've got some exciting stuff that I'm just itching to write. I'd be surprised if I'm not done by Thanksgiving.
I gave up, in case nobody noticed, or cared. The weeks leading up to this found me having a "house guest" who took up most of my time and I couldn't plan anything. But I'll be sure to plan for it next year (I only found out about this a month before it started).
I'll just stick to writing Digimon fanfics I'll never finish.
Ah well. There shall always be next year!
In my case, I just passed the 50k mark, but the book's not done yet. So I can finally play Phoenix Wright: Justice for All.
ooh congratulations on hitting the mark
Are you still planning to finish the whole novel by Nov though?
And we wants moar excerpts please ;o

You don't have to be too ambitious, man. Nobody expects you to come up with your magnum opus in a week, or even a month. Just take it slow and tell yourself you'll get there.
I'm going to try to finish the story by the end of the month. Also, this story is the "sequel" to another story which isn't even 10% finished, so I think while I'm still on my writing kick I'll try to get some of that material done.
I actually tried to write this story as something that wouldn't rely too heavily on the events of the previous story, but I think I have a subconscious "cohesive" mechanism which forces me to tie things in together.
As for not getting a magnum opus in a week/month, amen to that. This is my fourth time doing NaNo, and I don't think any of my past novels would qualify as a "magnum opus."
Regarding excerpts, I probably won't be posting anything beyond what I've gotten so far, but I'm probably going to be sending certain folks the complete text, once I've at least given it a proofread. I'm sure anyone who wants to read it will be able to convince me.
