I'm going to be gone for the weekend starting today and I should be back sometime Saturday. The reason is because I'm going to the wedding of my Missionary Training Center companion, as a groomsman. It's the first time I've been to a wedding reception like this one, or at least in any kind of position of responsibility. It won't be the wedding proper - that will be done in the LDS Washington DC Temple on Saturday, if I remember right about the day. But this is the reception, with photos, dinner and dancing, and me hoping to find a cute bridesmaid.
And yes, I'm (mostly) kidding about that last part. 😛
My brother and I are going to make the six-hour trip later today, stay overnight at a hotel, go to the reception the next day and then spend the night there in Indiana again, and then come straight back home the following morning. If all goes well, I should be back Saturday afternoon.
I may or may not have internet access at the hotel I'll be at, so I don't know when the next time is that I'll be on. I'll have to see how it goes.
Wish me luck!
Sounds like you're going to have a great time, tell us all about it when you get back, and I hope the wedding has some echidna bridesmaids for you
Have fun!
Have fun at the wedding (Funny I'll be going to one soon) and good luck trying to find a girl there...XD
Hope you have a good time!
Last time I was at a wedding, a cute bridesmaid took a shot at me.
Except she was a twentysomething drinker.
And I was, like, 14.
o_O;;
Anyway, good luck to you! Have fun, and pick out a good one!
Good luck on catching the bouquet! ^.^.^
Hey, hope evrything goes well. But it's always the way. Always the man groom, never the groom.
I've been to the DC Mormon Temple. It's gorgeous. It looks like a white castle with golden spires, in the middle of a forest. It's amazing. I don't know your friends, but I hope they like it.
Have fun and drive safe, buddy!
No, but that was pretty funny.
I've only seen it when driving by on some highway (dunno which one, my geography sucks), and it does look pretty cool. And it definitely doesn't sell lousy hamburgers.
Sounds like the beltway.
That's KINDA what I think it was, but again, my geography sucks, so for all I know, we had turned off it prior to this.
I wonder if I should be thankful I've never driven the Beltway myself. Heck, I have a hard enough time on Route 1. Maybe I should switch to using I-95 to get to UMCP... of course, assuming I can muster enough confidence to even take my somewhat battered Ford Escort1 an INCH on that road.
1 I was hit on the front left turn signal about 3-4 Fridays ago, which effectively totalled the car due to its old age. It's STILL not been fixed, seeing as we've had some trouble figuring out fault (I had the full green, this guy claims he had the full green left-hand turn signal), and at this point it looks like nobody's paying except ourselves. It's very much drivable, though, I just have a broken front left-hand turn signal, and the whole thing is pretty unsightly.
Well, I'm on the computer at the bridesmaid's house before the photo shoot! Actually, I didn't look at the instructions and it turns out that they've been sealed in the DC Temple already, on the 13th, which means they're married for time and all eternity. So this is just the reception for everyone who wasn't able to make it down to the temple.
Yes, the DC Temple was where my parents were sealed, so it holds a certain significance for me. And that sounds like the right description, because I've heard that it seems to just pop out of nowhere when you're on that highway. I think it's caused accidents before because people get distracted by it, *chuckle*. Just about every LDS Temple is beautifully-designed, but if you want to see a fantastic one, go see the San Diego Temple. That one looks like a fantasy castle! I've only seen photos of it, but I hope to see it in person eventually. Another great one to see is the Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City - photos don't do it justice.
And it turns out that we'll be driving through tonight to get home sometime early Saturday morning, now that I've looked at how we're handling this. It's kinda neat to be traveling like this. I'll see you all later!
You got into UMCP? Lucky lucky batard. I need to transfer there one of these days from AACC.
Also glad to here it, Terg.
Anne Arundel?
What classes you taking there?
*steal!*
Come to UMBC instead! That's where I'm at. It has no football team, meaning no riot police, helicopters, and drunk sports fans ending up on top of lightposts. We're also un-tornado-touched. 😛 We also have a lot more nerds. Plus, if you stay on campus during the summer you're only 20 minutes away from Otakon.
Our dorm rooms have air conditioning! And bathrooms for each room! We have a T1!
*plug plug*
Less "got into UMCP" as "going to UMCP for a Java course over the summer", really, though I am applying there. Eventually.
Did you find any cute bridesmaids yet? If so, can I have one as a pet?
My bro and I got back this morning about 3:30 in the AM after driving all the way from Antwerp, Ohio where the reception proper was held as well as the photo shoot. If I had remembered to bring a camera, I might have been able to post something up here, but I forgot so I can't. But I have witnesses who can tell you I looked pretty good in a tux.
Standing out in the humidity to take the photos, though...the tux was nice and comfortable, except it was hot and humid out. But luckily, we got all of the photos done and got into the bride's house just before a huge rainstorm hit - we could even see it coming down the road as we were taking the final photos.
Then we all rode to the reception hall for the reception proper, finally got to the dinner portion where I sat up with the rest of the wedding party and we had a toast (with sparkling raspberry pumante - though alcohol was available at this occasion, the toast was done with this alcohol-free beverage). We had the ring ceremony near the beginning of the event, as well as the cake and such. There was a lot of other stuff that went on of course, but there was dancing afterward. My brother and I didn't stay much longer after the dancing started, just long enough for the boquet and the garter to be tossed as well as some requisite dancing on the part of the wedding party, of which I was honestly one of the few eligible bachelors.
So all in all, it was a good trip and experience for both myself and my brother - and a good warning look at the potential hassles I will face when I get married.
And for the update for those of you who were interested, there were no echidna bridesmaids, although there were cute human ones. I was able to meet one in particular, it was strange how it started but I met her mother first and then her, and we had a good conversation asking about each other before she started asking questions about the Church after she found out that I was a member of the Church. She was quite curious and impressed with what she had seen, and interestingly enough while I was up and around and eating at the front table among other things, my brother also managed to somehow independently meet the mother of this girl and start up a conversation with them both after a while, answering more questions that they had. I don't know whether anything will come out of it, but she knows how to get my e-mail address, and so who knows?
So there you have it, folks!
Oooo! Good luck with cutesie Bridesmaid Tergywergy ^_^ sounds like a good time was had by all and now I politely demand you stop all things including breathing and upload some pics for us RIGHT NOW!
^_^
I'm glad you had a good time, terg
And in reply to your polite demand, Craig, I humbly refuse to comply and will continue to breathe and other such things. ;P I also remind you that I had no camera, and so am unable to upload any wedding pics.
HOWEVER...there may be a sequel to all of this if I get extra pics from my mission buddy. And I do have a cheap digital camera to take self-pics, so who knows, I might post myself up on the board one of these days.
<sarcasm> After all, I have a fan base to please. </sarcasm>
You never told me if I could have a bridesmaid. 🙁
Sure, you can have one. oo
Just make sure to feed it well, okay Son?
Okay, dad.
