I don't understand... I...
I actually *liked* last night's episode of Dragonball GT...
I.. you... Goodbye.
o.o
What happened? oO?
What happened in the show...?
or what happened to me...?
both you and the show, methinks. oo;
It's been forever since I've seen an episode of GT (no cable, blah)...
I didn't have many qualms against it, though. Maybe I was one of the few who enjoyed DBZ despite the drawn-out fights (hey, the writers' technique kept viewers watching, did it not?).
But I kinda like GT...something about the combination of DB's adventure aspect and DBZ's frantic fight scenes just really appeals to me.
i've only seen the first few episodes in japanise with fan-subs about 6 years ago, all i really recall was goku turning back into a kid for some reason and that the episodes were rather amusing with them going about their daily lives before going into space becuase the world was going to blow up because of the dragonballs.. (the heck was with that?)
oh, and a little robot running around going 'ditditdididit!!'. i want one! ^^;

That was basically because of Pilaf's wish on the Blackstar Dragonballs. To put it simply, when Goku and Pilaf met for the first time in years at Kami's lookout Goku was no longer the same height as Pilaf, as they appeared in DB. Goku has grown, while his height has barely changed at all. Pilar accidentally made a wish to change Goku into a kid again, as a means for them to be the same size.
As you can tell, I used to be a big Dragonball fan. 😛
I already saw all the episodes of GT recently in English. GT really does suck compared to DBZ, due to the comedy and unseriousness most of the series had (sorry Shane, I didn't like it). But there were some points in the series that I liked.
Speaking of which, the new Budokai better be good. Budokai 3 was close to catching the real feeling of DBZ, but I think this new one will finally do it.
The main reason I dislike GT was the background music. After all the cool tunes from DBZ, I was pretty disappointed. The plots seemed pretty rushed, too. I thought that I had missed an episode when Baby had magically made it to Earth from all the way across the galaxy. Sure, it's much faster than when DBZ used five episodes just for one guy to power up, but still...
You know...
you all seem a little bit less suprised by all this than I had imagined...
I kinda watched it by accident, it you can call being to lazy to turn the TV off (no remote) an accident...
Which reminds me why Slade was my favorite villian ever: If he went against Robin one-on-one, Slade would slaughter him.
Well, at least as far as I know.
meh...GT had some nice ideas, but I didn't like it at all, pretty much everything about that show doesn't interest me.
DBZ went stale in the Android and Cell sagas with a really crappy plot, then Buu picked it up a bit, I love the Saiyan, Namek and Friezer Sagas, they were far more interesting, and less constipation.
Dragonball is my favourite though, having a simple, yet highly enjoyable adventure based plot, some incredibly hilarious moments and some excellent fight scenes that were less about big blasts and more about martial arts, why don't they make games on that series. ;.;
GT at it's core presented a good idea, combining elements from the action scenes of DBZ and the humor of DB, you'd think it would make a winning formula, but unfortunately the way this was handled turned out terribly.
There were some episodes I did like, mainly most of the Bebi Saga episodes, which were sort of interesting. However, anything before or after this just didn't catch my attention, though those few episodes I liked were good the show on a whole wasn't, a few good ones wouldn't change this.
Maybe it was because Akira Toriyama (the creator of the DB series) wasn't the head of the project, he never even worked on this. It was Toei's work. Whatever the reason, if this was done right this should have been more enjoyable, though the way they tried to accomplish this didn't work.
I agree with you Robo. I used to be a big fan of DBZ and watched most of the episodes towards the ending few, but never really watched the final few as the series didn't become really appealing, although I have to say I personally favored the Saiyan and Android sagas.
I checked out DB:GT for the sake of it and ended up watching a few of the first episodes, but it was never appealing. Didn't seem as good as DBZ.
And then, when they finally started showing the original Dragonball, I began watching that in hopes that it would be good. It is, and is far superior to the others... I actually watched them all. The balance of humour and action is great, and as you said, far better because of the more martial arts based fighting compared to throwing energy beams around. That and Yajirobi didn't suck so much, it didn't have the OOT of Super Saiyans (yeah, I generally dislike them) and it had Launch, who seemed like a really interesting character. The Red Ribbon saga was massive and very intriquing, especially with its relation to the Android saga.
That said, one part that I never really liked about the whole Dragonball/Z/GT franchise was that most of the bad guys all ended up becoming good; Yamcha (well, he was sorta a villain,), Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, Android 18, Buu...
