Its Pancake Day! (Shrove Tuesday):D

Today is the day when you get out your eggs, milk and flour and make pancakes and stuff yourself silly until youre sick.

So get to it!

And now heres Delia to explain to you how to make a perfect pancake.

Ingredients
For the pancake mixture:
110g/4oz plain flour, sifted
pinch of salt
2 eggs
200ml/7fl oz milk mixed with 75ml/3fl oz water
50g/2oz butter
To serve:
caster sugar
lemon juice
lemon wedges

Method
Sift the flour and salt into a large mixing bowl with a sieve held high above the bowl so the flour gets a airing. Now make a well in the centre of the flour and break the eggs into it. Then begin whisking the eggs - any sort of whisk or even a fork will do - incorporating any bits of flour from around the edge of the bowl as you do so.

Next gradually add small quantities of the milk and water mixture, still whisking (don't worry about any lumps as they will eventually disappear as you whisk). When all the liquid has been added, use a rubber spatula to scrape any elusive bits of flour from around the edge into the centre, then whisk once more until the batter is smooth, with the consistency of thin cream. Now melt the 50g/2oz of butter in a pan. Spoon 2 tbsp of it into the batter and whisk it in, then pour the rest into a bowl anduse it to lubricate the pan, using a wodge of kitchen paper to smear it round before you make each pancake.

Now get the pan really hot, then turn the heat down to medium and, to start with, do a test pancake to see if you're using the correct amount of batter. I find 2 tbsp is about right for an 18cm/7in pan. It's also helpful if you spoon the batter into a ladle so it can be poured into the hot pan in one go. As soon as the batter hits the hot pan, tip it around from side to side to get the base evenly coated with batter. It should take only half a minute or so to cook; you can lift the edge with a palette knife to see if it's tinged gold as it should be. Flip the pancake over with a pan slice or palette knife - the other side will need a few seconds only - then simply slide it out of the pan onto a plate.
Stack the pancakes as you make them between sheets of greaseproof paper on a plate fitted over simmering water, to keep them warm while you make the rest.

To serve, spinkle each pancake with freshly squeezed lemon juice and caster sugar, fold in half, then in half again to form triangles, or else simply roll them up. Serve sprinkled with a little more sugar and lemon juice and extra sections of lemon.

So far, I've had four with maple syrup. I have enough mix for roughly another twelve.

I like pancakes. 🙂

Ahem.

Anywho. I fell in love with pancakes in America. iHop and Sagey's mum's pancakes are glorious heaven.

Sadly, kitchen refurbishment process means no pancakes for the Craig :(

I am just about capable of putting a ready meal in the microwave and that's it. As such, I will not be having pancakes. Oh, the golden syrup... I mourn my loss.

Anyone who eats Pancakes with anything other than Maple Syrup is a major breakfast Failure.

Don't even get me started on iHOP's million different "STRAWBERRY BANANA BERRY CINNAMON CARAMEL WHIPPED CREAM PANCAKE SUPER ULTRA MEGA MEGA EXTRAVAGANZA" Breakfasts.

If you really want some good pancakes, you have to use Krusteaz Pancake Mix

These pancakes are sooo good!

hmm...I wonder if I can make pancakes in my sandwich maker...hmm

If it's a grilled sandwich maker, then they make excellent pancakes.

But you should throw the pancakes out and then go and buy a waffle iron so you can make waffles instead of stupid pancakes.

Incase you were confused, British pancakes are American crepes. American pancakes are big and fluffy. Both are good and I wish I had some.

The pancakes on the packet Hiro posted a picture of look kind of like Scotch pancakes, which are these things here.

Today, I had four British style pancakes (which the French also call crpes, btw, but in France they're usually filled with something) today, all with raisins in them. The first one I just squeezed some lemon juice over, the second one I had with cream and the other two I just couldn't be bothered.

Due to living in halls which are catered (and thus do not provide cooking equipment), and no pancakes being provided from other sources, I have had a pancake-free Shrove Tuesday.

Ah well, maybe next year...

hmmm...@ Becca... but when we turn the radiators on in our room, it smells like burning paint... I wouldn't eat anything off of it...unless we put a metal cookie sheet down...hmmm

i wasn't saying to put the pancake directly on the radiator. ^^; unless you like flakes of paint as a filling.

Oh you've got to BELIEVE that we devoured IHOP's panacakes over here! X3 They gave free shortstacks (3 pancakes) per guest. Add that to the fact that we ordered extra sides, and not only was it an awesome breakfast, it was freakin cheap as hell too! X3

And hell yes IHOP has awesome pancakes. I keep hearing how people hate IHOP; I've YET to step into a crappy IHOP, either in Miami or up here in Rockford. So nyeh!
