Over the years pokemon has done greeat video game wise but cartoon wise they have started to sink ... with the 8th season on its way on ytv and the cartoon network, I think its's time to put a stop to it. The show itself get's the lowest possiable rating even worse than that brats show on 4kids, pokemon games are the bomb but pokemon shows are teh sux<>orz!. do I raise a good topic ... am I the only one whom dislikes pokemon cartoons?

I don't watch it regularly, but it doesn't seem like it's actually changed much since I used to watch it (which was the third season).

I watch the movies sometimes, purely for the animation. The 5th film in particular has some nice background art.

I just want a decent 3D Pokemon game, like the Gameboy ones... but in 3D! I admit I haven't played the Gamecube ones, but from what I've read they don't live up to their handheld counterparts.

To answer your question: if it wont change, it should go!

No, your opinion is pretty damn popular amoung both fans and non-fans.

However, the show is still making a profit, as far as I'm aware. As long as that remains true, the show will remain. The only reason that I can see for it's removal is the embaressment it adds to Pokmon fans. o.o

The quality of the games has been slipping since GSC, and the show has been slipping since...when was it? First season? Eh, whatever.

Oh, and no matter how far into the gutter the show descends, it will never be as bad as this{clik}.

Er, no it isn't. Last time I've checked it is one of KidsWB!'s highest rated shows. It's YGO that is getting one of the lowest rating on the block. P.S. 4Kids TV ratings are some of the lowest on Saturday mornings--even ABC Kids beats it. Not to mention the show is still popular in Japan.

As for the show. *shrugs* I don't really care for it that much nowadays--even though I heard Advance Generation beats the pants off of the Orange Island and Johto seasons. I'm more interested in the movies though they are still not one of my must see anime titles(which is admitably, a very small list). Though I would be more interested in seeing the movies subtitled with no alterations with the music.

So as long as the show entertains a new generation of kids(and I could think a whole lot of worse kid shows that shouldn't be on the air *cough*Loonitics*cough*CoconutFred*cough*) and makes Nintendo money I don't think it should go off the air. But then again, I won't get worked up if it's still on the air or off.

Though, I believe that there are probably older fans of the show more than many guys here think. The probably just don't speak up very often because they don't want to be ridiculed.

In other related news, screw a straight up 3D RPG Pokemon game. A Pokemon RPG should have either high-quality sprites like in the Guilty Gear games or high-quality cel-shading like in Level 5 games, JSR, or Wind Waker.FACT! Also, it will be in everyone's best interest if it stayed in the handhelds. So far, the main series seems to work better on that platform.

I was just watching some older epsidoes of Pokemon earlier, and I realized how much I missed it.

I followed the original series religiously, and then I watched the Orange Islands, which was simultaneously the best and worst season of all, not that that makes sense.

Somewhere in the middle of "The Johto Journeys," my cable provider got rid of WB, which prevented me from catching most of the season. It was in a downhill slope by that point. Every episode was too formulaic.

I've always wanted to catch up, but I still don't get WB. I've been watching it every so often on the Cartoon Network.

I have seen none of the new advance episodes, and I don't know how good they are. So I won't comment on that. I heard the show seriousl changed at that point: All existing Pokemon characters were written out save for Pikachu, and Misty was replaced with May and her little brother. No more Gary Oak, either.

But I still love Pokemon. So there.

I wish they'd do a high budget animated adaptation of the Pokemon Special (aka Pokemon Adventures) comic. That's Pokemon done right.

Now, I am more curious about the Pokemon Adventure comics since I heard great things about them but alas, VIZ seems to have stopped publishing them. I wonder why?

Meh, every episode of Pokemon's the same:
Ash and co. find a Pokemon that they've never seen before (or have, but the memories fall out of a plothole in each of their heads), then Ash gets in a battle with Team Rocket, some random trainer, or both, then Pikachu does something it really shouldn't be able to do, repeat ad infinitum.

I love the games, but the show is made to entertain rabid six-year-old fans, which it does VERY well, perhaps because kids have the same attention span as Ash.

But the series DID provide a great laugh last week, because I caught an episode about Luvdisc. Hahaha, Luvdisc.

I have to admit, I enjoy watching the show, I dunno why, but I do. The movie's are approximately 1000% better than the cartoons, but the cartoon still has some life left in it I suppose, I dunno, it depends where the release of Diamond/Pearl takes it...

Wonderbat beat me to it.

all of the episodes are the same, but he did forget one thing. Every now and then Ash will actually come across someone he doesn't like or vice versa, battle them, and then make friends after they beat up team rocket.

i personally stopped watching when the orange island thing hit.

I watch it every now and then. No where near as much I used to though.

As far as games go, I'm still waiting for a game where you can join Team Rocket.

Why, so you can go BLASTING OFF AGAAAAAIN after every fight that you invariably lose due to your opponent's unevolved poke Godmoding?

The best episodes were the ones that didn't fit that formula. For instance, "Bye Bye Butterfree" and "Go West, Young Meowth." I also liked Any ep with Cassidy and Butch.

A Pokemon RPG where you can choose different paths to be a either a world class trainer, breeder, gym leader, ranger, or bandit(Team Rocket, Magma, Aqua) sounds quite nice in theory...

...but this topic isn't about the games. It is about the anime. BACK TO TOPIC!

hmmm...It's been a while since I've done Pokemon...but I definitely was into the games and cartoon/movies!

I personally don't have anything against the cartoon as a whole, despite the seemingly repetative nature of each episode. The few irks I have center around when Ash does somehting like...say...leave Pidgeot behind, telling it he will come back for it, and we NEVER (as far as I know) see it again! And I guess those "You just saw that pokemon in the last movie so why on earth do you fail to recognize it??" plotholes can be somewhat annoying as well, though it makes episodes where he does manage to recognize a legendary pokemon (movie or not) all the more enjoyable.

So, to sum things up...I guess the show should stay as long as there is an audience that enjoys it. (Plus it's always kinda funny to walk into my living room and find my PARENTS watching the show, though I'm not sure whether they like it, or just want to see how many ideas get used again and again...)

...And as for games where you get to be like Team Rocket...I guess the closest thing to that is the Pokemon Coloseum/Pokemon XD games, where you actually get to snag pokemon from other trainers...as close as you can currently get to actually stealing someone elses pokemon!XP

So...yeah...guess that's it for now!

Dirk and Wonder beat me to it in their seperate posts. The cartoon was cool, for as long as I could watch it. So its a treat for me to catch an episode, and watch some godmoding occur with that Crackchu -.-

Least Chimecho and Wobbuffet make me laugh still.

o.O I semi-agree with Ashide, a 3d Pokemon game would be hella hard {But I'd like one, don't get me wrong} . I need an RPG, yes. It can be like ToS for all I care, cel-shaded out and what not {I tend to think of ToS as 2.5d, correct me if I'm wrong.}

Hell, if they did it like the original Grandia....that would be tops.

I enjoy Kanto and Orange the best. It had the best possible feel of character growth, engaging stories, and general fun with the main characters and their own unique personalities. Johto ruined it for me by being repetieve and dragging on with those durn filler episodes. I've stopped there. Advanced, from what I've seen is better, but not enough to get me interested again.

Ouch...I was in sixth grade when Pokemon hit the US ('98) ... Stopped playing the games and watching the cartoon around 2001 (my freshman year)... (that was the start of Johto, right?)...Then, to relive my childhood (all of 6 years ago :p ) I bought FireRed...

The games were solid, but have slowly died off...same with the cartoon... I remember being so excited about seeing Mewtwo Strikes Back at the theater...The episodes that I've watched now a days just seem rehashed...

I like Sailor Unicron's idea...being able to choose your path...this is what the Pokemon series could use...I'd buy that game (and look like a complete loser...what kind of 19-20 year old plays Pokemon)...

That is why my country rocks. XD

Anyway, back on topic. I really loved Pokemon when it first came out. I was totally insane about it, and I recently borrowed the entire first series from my cousin to watch again. XD

Pretty fun, and I have "Pokmon! The Electric tale of Pikachu!", book one to four right here on my shelf. I prefer the characters' looks in this manga. :p

More than you ever assume. =P :) Heck, I'm older than you and I'm quite interested in Diamond/Pearl, Pokemon Rangers, and that Pikachu's Mysterious Dungeon--but that's because they are usually solid RPGs. Heck, the franchise weren't even originally marketed to just children.

Strangely enough, I still watch the show when it still comes on Kids' WB on Saturdays (even though I hate 4Kids), and I've also played and beaten a few of the games.

I find it quite funny that I'm 18 and still like Pokemon and have liked it since it first hit the US. I'm strange, ain't I? 😛

The series has suffered bercause of one thing...

Not enough Poliwhirl.

Think about it. How many times has Poliwhirl been featured in all the various Pokemon series? Once, to my recollection. And that may have been a Poliwrath. Result? A pretty good series in its own right slowly decaying away into a mere shadow of its former self.
Now let's compare that to Pokemon Adventures. Both tried hard (at first in the TV series' case) to be faithful to the original game. Pokemon Adventures succeeded and was quite popular with Pokemon fans (Probably; I haven't done any research).
Both had Pikachu. Both had a young boy. Both had a rival. In fact, there's a number of similarities. But what was the difference? Pokemon Adventures had Poliwhirl right off the bat, whereas the TV show didn't show him until the Orange Islands. No amount of Officer Jenny, as hot as she/they may be, could make up the difference.

So how can we salvage the Pokemon anime? Get rid of Ash, Brock and whoever else is still there. Nothing against them, but I think it would be more interesting to have a new cast each series, like how the games have a new character each set of games. And make sure the new guy/gal has a Poliwhirl. It's too late to save the show for the game fans, but at least we can have our children's children have a great Pokemon series like we did.

Heh, even if it drops outta the US, the Pokemon cartoon is here to stay in Japan.

And oh wow, I remember when I watched that show religiously, or summat. I'd freak out when I missed an episode~ ah, those were the good old days. (And Viz stopped publishing the manga?! *emos*) I still do enjoy the video games, however, that hasn't changed. I just haven't played any of the more recent 3D ones though. Like Colosseum and... XD. (I will never, ever, be able to take that title seriously.)

But yeah. In Japan? Pokemon is still very popular.
(They've got Pokemon bread here, people. Bread.)

:nn; wow...I'm a moron...the credit of the "choose your side" idea is Ashide Bunni's...I guess I highlighted the wrong name...:o

EDIT:

More than you ever assume. =P Heck, I'm older than you and I'm quite interested in Diamond/Pearl.....

I find it quite funny that I'm 18 and still like Pokemon and have liked it since it first hit the US.

I'm wrong...big surprise...

I guesss the real question is, are closet Pokemon players or are you open about it?

I'm curious about Pearl and Diamond... The reason why I didn't get Ruby/Sapphire was because all my old buddies for G/S/C (some of whom were my old buddies from B/R/Y...) couldn't come with me 🙁 ... I had put hundreds of hours raising this guys, only to be told that they had to stay behind... I will give the series the solid RPG part...These games started me into that whole catagory!

9 episodes out of how many, though? It's still a small percentage, and it's nowhere near what it should be. And you can't count Poliwrath, Poliwag or Politoed (I've never heard of this last one, but I don't like the sound of it), because they are nowhere near as awesome as Poliwhirl!

Pokemon was okay in the first season and then after that it got sort of repititive. You knew what the formula of the show would be and you knew how it would turn out, usually with Team Rocket blasting off into the sky again. I will admit I was a Poke addict back when it first came out but now I don't care. Nintendo has milked that cow way too many times over too...
