Yeah, it's that day.

So, go blow something up. Not really.

The fifth of November
Gunpowder Treason and Plot
I see no reason
Why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

o.o

We did this in.. 7th grade I think. We had it as a theatre play in the back of our english book and we played it out in class. I was Guy Fawkes and totally enjoyed almost blowing the king up. 😛
I can't believe I still remember that part.

we celebrated with fireworks last night. unfortunately getting fireworks prove problematic as there was a long line in the local supermarket and we ended up with some very cheap sparklers (more smoke then sparkle) and only fountain fireworks, no rockets.

tho' the bomb explosions were good. 'WEEEeeeeeeoooooo.... BOOM!' and it'd explode across the garden with sparks. ^_@ i'm amased it didn't set fire to the fence!

then again, most of the fireworks were supposed to be planted in the ground, and our garden is paved over. >>;

Chibi and any other Brits that might be hanging around:

Are you guys sympathetic to Guy Fawkes? At all? Or do you file him under "Crazy Anarchists" and use this day as an excuse to set off fireworks?

i might think the government is daft sometimes, but i wouldn't look up to anyone trying to blow them up.

bonfire night is a celebration that he was CAUGHT and stopped. ^^; not for what he tried to do.

we used to burn 'guys' (figures made out of old clothes and etc) on bonfires in celebration that he was caught.
that practise seems to have mostly gone out of fashion, especially with some silly town councels banning bonfires altogether for 'health and safety' reasons. pah!

Aww....I thought I would be getting into a topic about the cool movie V for Vendetta. I didn't think that guy in the past actually tried to blow up Parliment. You learn something new everyday.

I missed all the displays this year, as I was moving house. Still, the fireworks in people's back gardens (and quiet streets nearby) went on till 11pm yesterday. They were still going this evening and I'm pretty sure they were going during the *daytime* this weekend.

Next year, maybe. I don't even know what act was on at the Clifton Down display - last year we got Chesney Hawks!!!
