What am I looking for?
I'm looking for software that can record sounds from your computer from all sources of audio (specially internal audio, ie If I were to play an emulator, it will get the audio from the emulator.
It has to be free to use (no shareware) and that's all. 😀
Sound recorder. Comes with XP. To use it in the way you ask, though, you have to set up recording volume.
1) Open Volume Control (Accessories > Entertainment).
2) Options > Properties.
3) Check "Recording" instead of "Playback".
4) Make sure all the possible boxes are checked, and hit OK.
5) Check "What U Hear". If there's no such option, try checking all the possibilities; one of them is the equivalent, which will record EXACTLY what your computer is playing.
After that, just record as usual.
Unfortunately, I don't have the option.
Any other software that anyone else would know beside Sound Recorder?
You DO have the option. I'm guessing it's just not called "What U Hear". Like I said, check ALL the options in that, one of them will have what you're looking for. Heck, if nothing else, find the Wave input and use that; that's all your emulator will use, anyway.
Some emulators have a wav dump. It'll record all the sound that's currently going on in the rom into a wav file. Easy squeezy.
The emulator in question is MAME: the version that I have does not have a wave output nor an option for wave output that I know off.
lets not be lazy...
GOOGLE IT!
I just thunk! There are some programs for download that rip sound from just about any audio that's playing on the computer. Unfortunately, most of these programs are demos, so you'll have to record in like thirty-second chunks and piece them together in Windows Movie Maker. X_X I did that for a couple of the Sonic Adventure REMIX tracks. Then I found Limewire.
I'm telling you. That feature is always built into XP. There is no reason to pay extra for sound editing programs unless you intend to edit it afterward (which, sometimes, you might).
DoN, you don't suppose you could show me a list of the possible selections under your Recording Volume program, could you? That'd help.
Try checking stereo mix or one of the Line-Ins; I'm pretty certain that's what you want.
