For those who couldn't be bothered to look at the link, here's a bit from it:
Lit up like the spaceship from Close Encounters and home to enough celebs to make a gossip columnist wince, Video Games Live at the Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, last week was a true coming of age for gaming.
Some 10,000 people packed out the venue for the show that, with the LA Philharmonic Orchestra, a full choir and a troupe of associated singers and performers, was the biggest concert of its kind ever seen in America.
Video Games Live featured the scores of many a modern-day chart-topper, from Halo to Metal Gear Solid and Headhunter: Redemption, while the simple brilliance of Sonic's classic themes were rendered anew with orchestrations from former SEGA Europe homeboy Richard Jacques, composer of Sonic 3D, Headhunter and OutRun2 soundtracks, among many others.
And...
After sending us a batch of cool pictures from the event, Jacques told us: "I couldn't resist making the choir sing "SE-GA" at the beginning of the Sonic medley. Even Yuji Naka loved it!"
Sonic the Hedgehog's creator was just one of a huge bevy of games industry luminaries in attendance. The end of the night saw a role call of leading game designers and composers take to the stage to the cheers of the massive crowd, where they were joined by A-list Hollywood gamers Elijah Wood and Stan Lee.
Top of the Pops, anyone?
Lets hope that they make a c.d. I want to hear what it sounded like.
That sounds amazing! Imagine what it must be like to have been there.
They do concerts for computer games often in Japan. They are pretty potty on the old computer game front but I like that they are!
We don't get stuff like that over in the UK!
*Starts penning a letter to Ministry of Sound suggesting the idea as well as complimentary popcorn for the first 1000 visitors*
WOW! I have ALWAYS wanted to hear a live choir sing the SE-GA thing! My gah, I do hope they make a CD! This shall be one of my dreams come true... [tear]
Wow, that's somethin' else, man. I'm just trying to picture some of the old Sonic music redone in orchestra fashion now, especially the Genesis stuff and perhaps even SatAM. And to just hear the choir do the "Se-ga"... LOL!!! That is TOO good!
Someone keep me posted on whether a CD ends up being made of this or not, cuz I want one now.
