That's perfect.
This is only the second time that a character has looked spot on in a Spider-Man movie, the first being J Jonah Jameson.
I can hardly wait to see how they pull off the CG.
...
That's beautiful! I got really worried seeing Church's name and Spider-Man 3 in the same sentance, but that is awesome! It even makes me forget about wanting Venom in the movie.
...That's pretty hard-core, for those of you that don't know me and Venom too well. ^^
Woo, Sandman! He really does look the part. Must be the stipey shirt. I'd assume that due to his goon-like status on the comics, he isn't going to be the main threat of the film. Then again, I'd also assume that Harry would turn up as Green/Hob Goblin.
I do remember reading that Venom would be in the film, but I don't know how legit the sourse was or anything. Still, Sandman!
...I wonder if Spidey will beat him with a vacuum cleaner.
Venom. MJ let the cat out of the bag when she was talking about the new movie Elizabeth town.
But one question... i didn't get a good look at his picture but is Topher Grace the same guy who plays Eric in "That 70's show"?
This looks really cool. The Sandman has some potential as a Movie Villan, as long as they screw that story about him "being fused with the sand where he was standing in a nucular blast". Like in the new Spiderman comics, I think the plot would be about hpw he was experimented apon and granted the ability to control his own density. And I dunno who this guy is, but he looks the part. We know Osborn's gunna turn into Hob/Green Goblin 2.0. They can't put that off another movie after the end of SpinderMan 2.
Lets see, how many villans does Spidy have left?
The Lizard (his teacher from the first 2 movies)
Sandman (this dude)
Venom, possibly with Carnage or whoever
Kingpin. Definately Kingpin.
Jackal?
Kraven the Hunter (90's cartoon style)
Electro
Green Goblin (Harry)
Hobgoblin (Roderick Kingsly, or whatever)
Hydro-Man??
Mysterio
Rhino (...Nah.)
Scorpion (Same.)
Vulture (AHAHAHAHAHAHAA...haha...that's funny...*breathes*)
and others.
Let's hope the new one will be as good as the last.
EDIT: Updated with villans from Villan List on Website.(LOLpun)

Kingpin. Definately Kingpin
As awesome as Kingpin would be, he was already used in the Daredevil movie.

LOLno.
I don't know much about Spider-Man, but DAMN, the real-live dude DOES look remarkably like his comic counterpart.

If Venom doesn't at least have a small part in this I'm gonna be pissed. He should at least get a small part at the very end like Harry Osborn did with the Green Goblin gear.
By the way, who did the symbiote suit take over? Was it Eddie Brock or Flash Tompson?
I get in a fight with people all the time over this! I say it's Eddie Brock.
And why doesn't anybody remember Carnage? Cletus Cassidy? Serial Killer? Any of this ring a bell to you people?
I agree with the first post. He's just a perfect replica of Marko Flint.
I'd be more excited, but I've always recognised Sandman as one of those silly pair-ups (and for the Fantastic Four, no less...and teamed up with Paste Pot Pete), or being one of Silver Sable's punks.
I'm sure he does has an interesting Spidey character hidden somewhere under all the "I'm REFORMED! HONEST!!!!" which the Clone and JMS era have made me put up with, but I find myself hard (as a a largely ignorant, but obsessive fan) to get excited about his appearance. I have no idea how non-fans are reacting.
That said...
If Venom doesn't at least have a small part in this I'm gonna be pissed.
I hate you. Choke on your shallowness. People like you make Shadow and all the other "Same but black, stupid and stronger" characters strive :p
And why doesn't anybody remember Carnage? Cletus Cassidy? Serial Killer? Any of this ring a bell to you people?
Awful character with no depth beyond "KILL PEOPLES!!!" who has never been interesting and just enjoyed various stories involving recreating his psycho family or killing as many people he can for no reason or the Carnage suit (WHICH IS BONDED TO CASSIDY'S BLOOD!!! Un.Re.Move.Able) bonding with every Marvel character it can.
Granted "Carnage Cosmic" was pretty awesome, it ended within 2 issues and involved Spidey rebonding Carnage and Cassidy for no reason other than "It's the right thing to do", which is just a stupid moral decision.
The symbiotes just peeve me, 616 or Ultimate. Doubley so for 90's Cartoon.
PS: Venom symbiote is by default Eddie Brock, though it has taken over a few other people. Never Flash to my recollection.
Sandman is a fantastic villain. On powers alone he'd be able to carry a single villain role much better than Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus. There are so many possibilities for great action scenes - if we don't have Spider-Man fighting Sandman on a beach I'll be sorely disappointed.
A good character doesn't have to be a sympathetic character, nor even a particularly deep character, they only need fill their required role in the story properly, and Sandman can do just that. He can provide numerous high budget action scenes and be a scary, menacing figure for the audience to boo and hiss.
I wouldn't like to see Venom, it'd be too much for one movie and a waste of both villains. They should introduce the symbiote and have Spider-Man wear it as the black costume, and introduce Eddie Brock, giving him reasons to hate Spider-Man, then Venom will be all ready for Spider-Man 4.
They could use Harry as the Goblin as a secondary villain. Since we've already had Green Goblin in the first film there's no need to worry about this Goblin getting little screen time, Sandman can remain the major antagonist. The Goblin can be a figure in the shadows throughout the bulk of the movie, and then come out and attack Spider-Man during his final battle with Sandman. Let's make sure the Goblin has a decent costume this time though - chainmail, fabrics, a rubber mask.
It'd also be cool if the film opened James Bond style, with Spider-Man foiling the plans of Rhino or Vulture or Shocker in an action scene with little or no relation to the rest of the film.
I've been wishing for the "Foiling a super villain" openning ever since Spidey 2's hype. I know Spidey is a super hero who looks out for the little guy and spends alot of time fighting petty criminals, but how are we supposed to believe the (supposed) danger to MJ if there aren't any truly dangerous criminals to make Spidey worry.
Also, I totally agree with the "doesn't need to be sympathetic"
They did a great job with Norman, I can appreciate that, but Otto should NEVER be portraited as a father figure, or as a good man gone bad, he was always selfish and greedy. Sure, retcon backstory has always tried to make us feel for Otto, but his actions have no clear "I'm evil because..." motive, he's just a man with the means and needs to be a super villain. In the movie he was a carbon copy of Norman, non-father who bonds with Peter, turns evil through science and ends up dying because of his connection to Peter (well, at least Norman's was believable, well played, evil to the end and true to the comic)
At least Marko is an out and out thug, they can't turn him into Norman the third.

Yes it is.
I can see this being interesting, since Topher and Tobey actually look relatively similar IRL. Possible reference to a future plot, maybe?
Well, I guess I could see Topher Grace as Eddie Brock. However, it's the Ultimate Spidey Eddie that I can see, not the tall, muscular, Spidey-hating Daily Bugle employee Eddie. Who knows, maybe a mix of old and new for Venom (that is, if he is in it).
Also, I thought they won't start filming for the movie until January? Or is that a pic of Church trying out the outfit for the first time to see if it looks good?
I was never a diehard fan of the comics, but what you have to understand Craig, is that Venom and Carnage aren't my favorite villains. I remember reading the comics with Venom and Carnage and always caught myself asking "HOW DO THEY DRAW THAT?!" The art has always amazed me and I think it would be neat for special effects.
Sandman'll be alright too, but I just think he's not going to have as cool special effects. I don't know though. I thought Doctor Octopus was gonna suck too but I was very surprised with the results.

Topher Grace as Eddie Brock
That scrawny dude? I rembember Brock being somewhat of a msucular character yet kinda bulky.
Me too. But it all changed with Ultimate Spider-Man. Story, character, lots of stuff about Eddie Brock has changed in those comics.
Ultimate Spider-Man and 616 Spider-Man are two seperate continuities. Eddie Brock is still the muscular man he always was, and Ultimate Eddie is a totally different character.
The movies are based on the original comics so are 616 canon, not Ultimate (which I believe has a different license, anyway).
He does look like Sandman.
As for Venom, I would like to see him (he's scary) but not this soon. For his introduction, I would like to see the symbiote bond not with Eddie Brook but with Harry Osborn and become Venom. I know this goes against the continuity of the comics, but Harry shares such a "beautiful hatred" concerning Peter/Spiderman already with the symbiote. It is almost a match-made in heaven... or is that hell.
Having Spidey in his black costume and pave the way for Venom in a 4th movie would be awesome, and I'm all for Sandman as a villain here.
I'm surprised though, as I thought the Lizard was sort of confirmed for this... at least that was the impression I got from Astonishing Spiderman.
But meh.
They'd talked about it. Originally Lizard was scripted to be in Spider-Man 2, and Raimi was quoted to have said that he would have loved to use the Lizard but he deserves more justice than to have been a minor villain and mutual friend to the hero/villain of the movie, it would be better to give him a movie of his own.
Obviously that was what got the rumour mill flying.

Only time I've liked Carnage too, for that matter.
However, I do like Venom.
Not because of the "black is cool OMG" rubbish, but because his sense of humour as a character always entertained me... at least in original Spidey.
(Hasn't read much Ultimate)
The resemblance is truly astonishing. Hopefully the character will be as spot on. And hopefully it'll be somewhat close to the original personality, but as long as it's not that mixed-up crazy Sandman from that Tangled Web story, I'll be happy.
You know, it's too bad Doc Ock is out of the picture. With him and Sandman appearing in movies, all we need is Kraven, Mysterio, Vulture and Electro to show up, and we've got the Sinister Six. And hey, if they had two of them appear in each movie after 3, they'd be able to show up for Spider-Man 6. Ah well. 6 villains in a movie wouldn't have been the best idea anyway.
