Just about everyone knows this work (by French composer Paul Dukas) from the Disney film Fantasia, with Mickey Mouse in the title role. But for those of you who don't, here's an explanation:
This work of music tells a story about a sorcerer who had an apprentice. One night, the sorcerer had to go out. And the apprentice decided to take up some of the boss's magic. But, unfortunately for him, he never learned how to control it, and he ended up in a big mess, which the sorcerer had to stop in the end. The moral of the story is: Never start what you cannot finish.
You know, in a way, I think President Bush is like the sorcerer's apprentice. The best example of this would be Iraq. He and his colleagues started a war over there without a plan to finish the job. And it makes me wonder: When will the sorcerer return and clean up this mess once and for all?
