Oooh...
But Megatron is a transformer.
Therefore he wants to destroy himself.
Therefore Megatron is emo!
Barricade spent several months as my desktop Nn
I like how the sky on Optimus' is darker than that on Megatron's, and thus appears more evil.
(It's 100% possible that they're not the right names! Hooray for not remembering what little, if any, Transformers I have seen in my lifetime.)
My god, those are the designs they went with?
How positively hideous.
...And yes, I've never seen them before now. I never cared enough to hunt them down by myself, really.
zomg *fangasm*
They've been playing the heavy metal theme from Transformers on Less Than Three Music more than several times.
Oh, by the way, when you see those faces you'll be hearing Peter Cullen (Original Optimus <3)
And Agent Smith....
They've also got Keith "Goliath/Thailog" David from Gargoyles as Barricade, the Decepticon police cruiser.
...Really? Holy carp <3<3<3
** has already set the day as a reminder when he went to see Snakes on a Plane **
Anyone who posts spoilers in other way but the correct way will suffer consequences beyond the scope of punishment by me and the board rating ('cause dumping you into a cell with LNR's are so last year). 🙂
EDIT: Didn't made sense. :p
Oh I am SO watching this!!!
Optimus X Megatron - DISCUSS!!
Optimus X Megatron = ?
We need to tell newbies that "x" means "versus" just to see what would happen.
XD
That's just mean, GT. Utterly hilarious, but mean.
Newbie: Sonic x Shadow - Discuss!! Shadow can whoop Sonic's spikey little butt because he's cooler and da strong!
Anyone happen to know why they're not going with Megatron's original voice? I mean, I bow down before Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime (Knight Rider's KARR ftw!), but surely Frank Welker would have been available? The guy's omnipresent and a voice acting god...
DW
Don't really know. Out of curiousity, has he done much outside of animal noises recently? I can't recall anything.
My only complaint is that most of the body designs look so terribly fragile, like I could hit them with a baseball bat and do serious damage.
Attack their weakpoint for MASSIVE DAMAGE
I'm a pretty big TF fan, but I'm not looking forward to this. All the character designs are terribly generic and ass-ugly.
What kind of stupid adaptation is this? They look nothing like the characters. Where's Optimus' gorilla head? Why isn't Megatron a T-rex? If they can't stick to the source material don't make the movie.
DAMN STRAIGHT VEC.
Given the choice between whoever Megatron's original voice was and Hugo Weaving, I'd take Hugo Weaving.
In fact, I would take him over most possible voices you could name.
Mr. Anderson...
Hugo Weaving as Megatron?
Best damn news I've heard all year.
I saw a trailer for this on Playstation Store. Downloaded the 1080HD version. Looked pretty cool.
I know a lot of TF "purists" are saying that they wish they hadn't modified the look of the characters for this movie, however to be honest, I really couldn't disagree less. I mean, the old look of the characters was great for the time they came out, but times have moved on since then, and seriously, if, for example, Megatron still looked like this, I really wouldn't bother seeing this movie.
The old looks were good, but now, they are really terribly dated, and to use the old style and appearence, while possibly satisfying some die-hard purist TF fans, would, lets face it, not appeal to many besides them. Updating their appearence 1) gives them more appeal to a much wider audience, and 2) reinvigurates the genre, perhaps even extending it's lifespan by years, by introducing a new generation to the TF story in a way that they would consider "cool" and "awesome".
In some cases, I too am a stickler for the past and a purist, however in this case, I think the redesign of Megatron and some of the other characters is not only beneficial, but also essential. In my opinion, THIS is far, far more modern, impressive, and overall cooler than the pic above.
While I agree that when moving somthing that started as a cartoon or comic into a live action movie requires a big step up in design to make them believeble, they should still resemble who and what they're based on. While Optimus does resemble his original enough to know who it is, Megatron looks nothing like any form he's had in any series, and looks more like Guyver in his full body pics. I honestly wouldn't have known that was Megatron from appearance, and wouldn't be convinced just because the title said it was Megatron (though I know it is him due to searching). I mean seriously, does this remind you of Megatron? Or even a Transformer?
There have been many redesigns of these characters over the years, and there have been mainly that have been a lot worse than these too movie designs, but there have been a lot better two.
Edit: Added the picture and some grammer improvements.
Indeed @ Robo. My issue isn't the fact that the character designs aren't the same as the original G1 (although if they were I would fangasm), but the fact that these new character designs are just plain ugly. Optimus is alright since he's somewhat recognisable, but really, all these robots look generic and rubbish. None of them have any real or interest. Beast Wars managed to have decent character designs, and some other TF series included some sweet character designs as well. The War Within comic series updated all the G1 character designs why still making them distinctly appealing. Why shouldn't the movie?
I haven't seen the Megatron art until now but I have to say that it just looks horrible and nothing really resembling a transformer at all (signatures of their alternate mode etc. Seriously, what is Movie Megatron supposed to transform into?). So far, that design looks like a generic and unimaginative robot.
Actually, I like the way Jazz and Barricade (Evil Prowl lookalike yay) look, dislike Megs and BB and am incredibly confused by why ratchet is green. Other than that, I'm apathetic on the designs.
No, no it doesn't. He looks like the Guyver, I agree. Please tell me he at least turns into a tank or a gun or something like he's supposed to. Also. an FYI: Bumblebee isn't a VW Bug anymore because Volkswagen doesn't want to be associated with violent machines, or so I've been told.
Spoilers (Select To Read): Megatron is some sort of stealth bomber. Sorry to disappoint.
Compelling theories were raised a while back that Megatron transforms into a cutlery drawer.
God Megatron's alt form sounds like ass, now, to join his robot form.
Sounds like ass, and looks much worse. I have to admit that I was never fond of him turning into a gun, always felt kind'a lame, which is why I love Galvatron turning into a cannon.
Which reminds me, why didn't they get Lenard Nemoy for his voice?
According to Gamespot Frank Welker, the original voice of G1 Megatron, will voice Megatron in the official Transformer video game instead of Hugo Weaving. Which makes wonder why can Welker voice Megatron in the game but not in the movie?
Popularity?
People will go "OH LOOK, HUGO WEAVING AS MEGATRON" and flock to see it. Hell, I would.
Whereas "Huh? Who the Hell is Frank Welker?".
Sacrilege! I'd be going "Hey, it's the god of all voice actors, with more credits to his name than Mel Blanc! Wahoo!"
Whereas now I'm going "What in blazes is Elrond doing in a Transformers movie?".
Each to their own...
DW
Mel Blanc still outranks Frank Welker by a large margin, at least according to their IMDB credits. You also have to remember that many of Welker's credits are simply animal noises.

What about Peter Cullen? Like Frank Welker, he isnt exatcly well know outside animation fans and he reprising his role of Optimus Prime for the movie.
I'm pretty sure the only reason they signed on Cullen was to satisfy the fanbase. I personally would've been happy if they had signed Gary Chalk on as Prime, simply because he's the VA I associate with Prime most. I've primarily been watching the Unicron Trilogy and only recently discovered G1.
Many of Mel Blanc's credits on IMDB are for the same characters - I think I was thinking in terms of numbers of characters he voiced, rather than how many Looney Tunes / Merrie Melodies cartoons he was in, but you have a very good point there
You're right, Frank Welker does dogs and evil cats very well as well...
I was cheering when I heard Peter Cullen was going to be involved - although I imagine it was partly from thinking of Venger in Dungeons & Dragons - or KARR in Knight Rider - rather than Optimus Prime.
Still, my only exposure to Transformers was "The Movie", so I'm pretty nostalgic for those voices and those alone. Sterling voice cast there - giants of voice acting, plus Orson Welles, Leonard Nimoy & Eric Idle!
DW
Eric Idle's voice work in that first Transformers movie should have garnered awards.
Seen more of Movie toy designs.
Waaaaant.
I would love the movie for one single reason. Because of all the hype, we're finally getting Transformers plushies. And they transform like Popples, too!
