Let's face it, sleep sucks. Do you know how much time we waste on a daily basis sleeping? That's time when we could be working, enjoying ourselves, composing symphonies, cooking maccaroni and cheese, or whatever it is that your life doesn't have enough of that you'd like to have more of.
Thankfully, anti-sleepologists have constructed a frightening arsenal of energy drinks to help stave off the slumbers. So when you need to burn the midnight oil, what is your caffeinated beverage of choice.
I normally used to be just a strict coffee man, but that was until I was introduced to this.
That's right folks, bawls. A high caffeine beverage made from Guarana berries. It's sweet without being packed full of sugar, and has enough carbonation to tickle the back of your throat. it also comes in incredibly stylish glass bottles.
But what if I need Bawls at work? I already got that contingency coverred with every cubicle dweller's best friend.
This fridge, available from thinkgeek.com rests securely underneath my desk at work, ready to serve me chilled beverages at a moments notice, whenever QuarkXpress has gotten too much of me, or our outdated version of photoshop starts acting up.
So that's my arsenal. What's your weapon of choice?
I seem to be able to make my own energy... I can be dead tired one minute, then wide awake, bouncing off the walls the next...
I'm a big fan of Mountain Dew... I'll have an occasional Bawls... No coffee though...
mc-vite's milk chocolate digestives and milk. and toffees. and mint imperials.
lots of sugery things, yesyes. >>
then again, for the past few weeks i've been unable to fall asleep until 9am, so burning the midnight oil isn't so much of a problem for me. actually sleeping is the difficult part.
An mp3 player playing Megadeth or Pantera.
Mountain Dew and Vault. I drink both daily.
The internets.
Need I say more?
Fortunately I've managed to keep my regular sources of caffeine limited to coffee and Pepsi.
Unfortunately the only readily-available coffee I can drink without choking is Starbucks.
Usually the only caffinated thing I go for is Coke (or a store brand cola of some kind) or Dr Pepper. My brother likes Mt Dew and that Vault stuff, but I find both particularly nasty.
any type of soda will keep me going, with a mix of video games i could go for days without sleeping. well maybe i would sneak a few naps.
I come into this topic for one reason only, and that's to say "Bawls" is the best name for a drink I've ever heard.
Carry on!
Starbucks is expensive, soda makes you have to go to the bathroom, and I don't have a sweet tooth. Campus bookstore sells these wonderful things: (100mg per mint. Yum ;o)

o.o
I don't really like caffeine.
If you feel as though you're wasting your time by sleeping, may I recommend polyphasic sleep?
i work at a small grocery store that has almost every energy drink imaginable. THAT'S my weapon of choice.
personally i prefer monster over any of the others, when you need a kick in the butt, that's what delivers it.
Coffee gets me through most nights, although I've been staying up late since I was 15 (that's when I started getting into Letterman so I'd stay up to watch him) so the real trouble is trying to stay awake in the daytime. XD
I don't frequently consume energy drinks, seeing as though I believe that horse wash about them being bad for you, but when I take one I 75% of the time take a Monster assault.
And I drink a coffee before every school day or else I implode.
Dude, you're right.
If we only slept for like...an hour a day, we could achieve like, 20 to 30 years of our life back!
I've actually been thinkin' about that for a while..
But until they invent "Anti-Sleep" drugs,
I gotta go with my mind. I got ADD, so my brain can wander for hours on end.

I've never tried it, but it seems to me that it limits you to activities that don't last longer than 3.66 hours at a stretch. Once you include the time taken to shift out of nap mode and into a productive frame of mind, and get your stuff together, let's say that gets cut down to closer to 3 productive hours. I mean, if you've ever been on a coding spree or a writing jag (for example) you know that it takes time to get into the swing of things, and once you're there, it always seems like quite a waste to leave. That and can you imagine going to parties? You'll be the new Cinderella what has to run back home at midnight and take a twenty minute nap before your brain craps itself and turns into a pumpkin ;o
Have you tried it?
My typical weapon against sleep is that natural rush you get when you're hyped up with friends. :3
Of course, since I can't very well go and carry my friends around with me all the time when I need them, I find whatever soda is around the house (usually Pepsi). Mountain Dew and Dr Pepper are favorites, as is chocolate coffee. <3

Coke and Dr. Pepper, though I have been known to drink the Dew.
All else is heresy. :p
Naps. Nothing else works.
Like, 9 coffee a day.
It's even harder than usual not to drink coffee since there's a Tim Hortons a block from my house =)
What a terrible topic. One of the major keys to a nice complexion is alot of sleep! Simply desire to be ugly if you wish to stay up.
But until they invent "Anti-Sleep" drugs,
Caffiene pills?
Speaking of Caffiene, with nothing but Dew, my record for staying up is 2.5 days.
My record for Dew consumption is a 12 pack in 20min, done to piss Mom off.
These two incidents were not related.
Holy **** @ sx

I'm sure your blood sugar and sperm count is proud!
Caffiene pills?
I mean-
Pills that can substitue as a full night's rest in only one hour.
Caffiene only prolongs sleep, not replace it.
Oh and BTW-
Congratulations on the Mountain Dew.
Holy mother of pearl, SX o_o
You make me really really want to challenge that, but I'm going to assume you got rather sick afterward, and I really don't feel like making myself vomit. >3
I have done two 2-liters of Dr Pepper in a day, though. Man, that was intense. XD
~Shadowed Spirit Sage
Oo @ Sage only just managing 2 litres in one day
I swear, I seem to go through that every single day of the week. <<
If I need a caffiene boosts, I generally hit up Red Bull/Red Eye, depending on what's on special at my local supermarket, and I usually support those with Boost energy bars if they are cheap as well. Yes, I'm cheap. Deal with it.

I foresee many pissed off pancreases in the future o.o
Bawls all the way. It's a shame that the only place besides the internets that sell them around here is 7-11, and they change $2.30 a bottle. However, I only need to buy it there when I ran out of the ones that I have in the cases, but I need a fix right now.
Given that I ran out of the ones that I buy online AND I run low on money/all of the Bawls are sold out (I should have never introduced it to my friends...), I just grab as much Pepsi as I can.
*looks at SX's record* Man, I'd sure hate to see that record if he drank Bawls instead...
Mostly just caffeinated sodas (whatever brand's available at the time), but if I can find it, Jolt Cola. Otherwise, it's tea, as I'm not much of a coffee person. I'd brew both in college when I needed to do an all-nighter, but I prefer the taste of tea over coffee.
A couple years back, Megatokyo shared a recipe for "Up All Night" tea that I tried when I needed to write a paper. Never again. The stuff worked exceedingly effectively, but I think anymore than that one time and I'd have reduced my lifespan by several years.
Longest I've stayed up is about 60 hours. Had a whole bunch of stuff all due at the same time. Never doing that again, either.
I saw way too many sunrises in college. While I don't mind trying to expand my day, I learned in those four years to appreciate what sleep I could get, and I prefer to get at least four-five hours a night.

Have you tried [polyphasic sleep]?
No, but I've always kind of wanted to. It's not meant to become a regular sleep pattern, just something you do in times of stress. Maybe I could try it for exams...
If I need to stay up or need an energy boost at work, I drink Coke, as I don't like Mellow Yellow, Sprite, etc. However, the unofficial official drink of the Burger King I work at is Red Bull; though, I never drink the stuff.
I just had a bottle of Bawls today, and I must describe the stuff only as... underwhelming.
For starters, the taste: The stuff tastes kind of like warm Sprite. Not cool.
And, from the way a friend of mine hyped the stuff up, I thought it was going to be like crack or something, but it doesn't contain that much more caffeine than Jolt or Coffee, and certainly not enough to make a noticeable difference.
Overall, for $3.00 CDN for a bottle of Bawls, I think I'll stick with my extra-large double-doubles, thanks.

I'd rather choke down Bawls than the putrid, white-hot, microwaved coffee-flavoured water they serve at Tim Horton's. At least Bawls is still cheaper than real coffee.
I usually run to the coffee shop across the street with my 50 cents off mug and get them to make me a C16.
It's ice, lemon smoothie syrup, and a Red Jak Energy drink. 🙂
I hate coffee, but I can't turn down a freezer or frapachino.
I also usually snooze for an hour or so during the day in case I need to stay up really late to finish a project.
the only coffee drink I can stand is a Vanilla Frappuchino, and half the time the aftertaste makes me sick. Any other coffee, I feel like vomiting.
Although, I haven't ever actually puked because of any amount of caffeinated drink I've had - If I did, I was sick already. However, 12 Mountain Dew cans in 20 minutes is not an experience I'm going to repeat any time soon.
After having gone cold turkey on Coke after my four litres per day habit at university, I find that a couple of mouthfuls can now keep me up for the better part of eight hours.
Although overdosing on ice cream has a similar effect, it makes me a lot more inclined to bounce about rather than get on wuith whatever I'm staying up late to do.
The only thing that I've ever found keeps me awake is fresh air.
Outdoors, I'm fine. Indoors, I will start dozing.
The armoured one raises a very good point, a nice midnight walk is one very, very pleasent way to invigorate the mind. It's just a shame that alone you run so many dangers =(
Go with a friend, playing with a firestick however, and your golden =D
Weapon of Choice - SEX!
This is what happens when you don't read the first post, kiddies.
Thank you very much for adding nothing to the thread, Harley.

Getting this thread back on topic...
Ditto to what Xan said about fresh air. Except I'm a smoker so it's typically more about the cold and wind than the air actually being clean and fresh. When I'm writing papers I go stand outside every hour or so without a coat. It's not exactly healthy, but I'll wake up.
I don't drink coffee anymore, nor cokes and such. There's just too many empty calories and I know I can drink a liter of Dr. Pepper a day if given the chance. I drink alot of Chai Tea now. Vanilla flavored. Not alot of caffiene to keep me awake all night, but enough to keep me going an hour longer.
Also, sheer academic related panic works.
Actually, back in college I used fresh air too, but not just any fresh air. Cold fresh air. Anyone who's lived in a dorm knows the air in there can get really stale. Some nights when working on a paper, I'd just drag my laptop out onto the quad and I'd be typing a mile a minute in moments. Of course it would need to be something that didn't require the internet. My school didn't have Wifi in the dorms.
