I'm leaning towards a 3D rendering where copycats will become rampant. Nonetheless, if a hoax, it's pretty good.
I was looking at those pictures a couple of days ago, quite fascinating.
A CGI professional has apparently gone over them with a fine tooth comb, and although he says he still doesn't think they're real, he also said they're the some of the best CGI work he's seen, as apparently even quirky little things like the CCD bloom of the camera is accounted for. The only reason he could find that the images weren't real is that it's a weird spiky thingy floating in the air, so can't be real! 
Hmm, very interesting indeed.
The writing on the spikes looks like jumbled up katakana.

My dad's friend built a small aluminium lifter once (I think this was the site he got instructions from), it was pretty cool to watch it take off, but was dangerous to get close to, since you could get electrocuted.
Though with our little triangle lifter the crackling noises were quite loud, it almost sounded like a strong wind blowing.
The hoaxer obviously put some thought into it, because he made some research on how it could float around in the air like that, although as things stand for us today lifters still can't carry a lot of stuff and are in testing.

You can tell tis CG pretty easily I think, because you'll notice how in the pictures of it there is more detail to it then anything else in the image, even though it appears to be further away from the other objects in the picture.

If it's a hoax, it's very well done, both graphically and gossip...y o.o I mean, it could easily be one guy making up a bunch of stories. But still... if it's real, I wanna go there and see it! 😀
