I thought it would be fun to see what you all call some different commodities... I've lived in a couple different states, and know that even next door neighbors can have different ways of saying things... So here we go!

1) Soda or Pop?

2) A Bubbler or a water fountain? (as in the thing you take a sip of water out of)

3) 'Duck Duck Grey Duck' or 'Duck Duck Goose'?

my answers

1) I'm pretty sure most Minnesotans refer to a can of carbonated beverage as a pop.

2) Water fountain... Heh... I remember 10 years ago. I had just moved to Wisconsin. First day of 3rd grade. Teacher said for us to go out into the hall and get a drink from the "bubbler"...

3) Growing up as a kid in Minnesota, I learned the game as Grey Duck... My parent's (who are from Ohio) swear by Goose...

This is coming from a born and raised Mississippian.

1) Generally if I'm refering to a carbonated drink, I'll just say Coke. But given the choices, I use soda.

2) I always called it was a water fountain.

3) I swear by "Duck Duck Goose" as well. I played it all the time in PE.

1). Most people in Cardiff call it pop as far as I know (and I think most people in Britain but I haven't lived all over Britain so don't know for sure), but in all honesty I prefer the word soda.

2). Water fountain, drinking fountain, both sound right to my ears. Bubbler sure doesn't though. I mean what the hell?

3). I've never played the game, but I've only ever heard it referred to as Duck Duck Goose

1) Pop. Like Nuch said I don't think anyone would use the term soda in the UK.

2) Water fountain or water cooler. The school calls them water coolers, but I usually call them water fountains.

3) Duck Duck Goose. Never heard of the other one.

EDIT: 4k 😀

Citizen of the World / General American (Born in Missouri, lived in Minnesota 14 yrs, family from Wisconsin for a billion years and lived there for 7, now live in Tennessee...)

1. Soda - I used to call it pop until I worked at McDonald's when I was sixteen. It felt too unprofessional to call drinks 'pop's o.o
2. Water fountain - pretty much same reason, I just kind of felt like a child saying 'bubbla'.
3. Although I haven't played it forever, I remember calling it 'Duck Duck Gray Duck' probably just because of where I spent my childhood.

1) People here call it soda, but I don't see why everyone can't just call it "Soda pop."

2) Bubbler. Definitely, definitely, bubbler. That is the original name for the device since it was first patented and that is what it ought to be called. A water fountain is what you drink out of if you are a hobo. "Drinking fountain" is slightly more acceptable than "water fountain," I suppose, but Bubbler is the correct name as far as I'm concerned.

3) Duck, Duck, Goose... I've never heard it called anything else.

Born and raised in New Jersey, I am. Most of my family's here, as well, except for an uncle who lives in Florida with my youngest cousin. :p

1) I've always called it "soda." Except for cola, which I just call "cola."

2) "Water fountain" or "fountain." Bubbler doesn't sound right to me. o_o

3) "Duck Duck Goose." It's what I learned as a kid.

Well I live in Georgia, but we call Soda, Soda. We refer to the machine that distributes water for free a Water Fountain, and finally, it's duck duck goose.

**giggles** Hiro, my dad grew up in Minneapolis, yet he swears by "soda" and doesn't conform to the Chicagoland's "pop".

1) Which answers this question. I call it pop.

2) **shudder** I can't imagine calling it a bubbler. It doesn't even bubble! It flows like a fountain. Hence, water fountain.

3) Duck Duck Goose all the way.

There are so many of these you can do this for; for example, is it a rotary, traffic circle, or roundabout? Is aunt pronounced "ant" or "ah-nt"? Diagonal or kitty-corner? Cops and Robbers vs. Cowboys and Indians?

(traffic circle, ant, diagonal, and cops/robbers, btw.)

lol @ Sagey... The question you should ask your father is, "Is it duck, duck, grey duck or goose?".

I told my dad about this thing this afternoon... He shock his head and said "It's duck, duck goose"... My little 6yr old brother piped in "You mean Duck Duck Grey Duck" XD

The more I think about it, I don't know what Minnesotas refer pop/soda as... The problem with me is, my parents are from Ohio, so I've probably inherited some of that...

Speaking as a member of Tony Blair's 51st state:

1. Pop or "fizzy drink", if I don't use a specific brand name.

2. Water fountain, but more usually "Drinking fountain".

3. Duck, duck, goose.
