I've found that the best combination isn't to Duel Wield at all, actually. Simply pick up the Plasma Pistol and carge it up. When you see somebody, fire. It takes all of their shields right down. Even the Over Shield!
Then, follow up with the ol' stand by Battle Rifle. Two quick shots and they're down. Rinse, Repeat, and boom. You've won the match.

I hate to break it to ya, Gale, but A) I don't know of any place like that and B) my online persona doesn't have anywhere "where the sun don't shine". The only advice I can give is to put a DIFFERENT game in the Xbox and force yourself to play IT non-stop until you begin to A) appreciate THAT game more, B) not rely on Halo so much, and/or C) wind up in the funny farm.
Besides, I have the same problem, only remove "Halo 2" and insert "the Internet".
