Numbers Weekly recently published this list of the top numbers between 1 and 20, based on an intensive nationwide study. The results are:

20. 15
19. 7
18. 3
19. 18
18. 9
17. 20
16. 4
15. 5
14. 17
13. 14
12. 1
11. 13
10. 16
9. 19
8. 6
7. 15
6. 2
5. 8
4. 11
3. 12
2. 3.14
1. 10

Frankly, I was very dissappointed in this list. I mean, two of the mose important numbers of all time, "1" and "2" don't even crack the top 5. It's absolutely ridiculous that "10" be number one. It's probably the most overrated number in the book. I mean, it's divisible by three factos. HELLO!?!?!

Yes, as you've probably guessed, this list isn't real, it's just a spoof on something that's been driving me bannaners as of late. Top <INSERT NUMBER HERE> Lists. They seem to have proliferated in recent years. It's gotten so bad that Cable Network VH1 proudly proclaims that they have a new "Top 100" list every Friday Night. They're really the worst offenders on this subject(although not the only ones). Their recent documentary "Top 200 Pop Culture Icons" was so absolutely ludicrous, I was watching it at one point just to laugh at it.

My problems with these lists is basically centered around two main points. First of all, they are completely and utterly ARBITRARY! I seriously doubt that VH1 performedd a nationwide poll to get the top 50 One Hit Wonders of All Time. They're not based in anything like sales, they're just based on what their current popularity is. The Cardigans are making a comeback? Alright, bump 'em to the top of the One Hit Wonders List. Bruce Springsteen has a new album? Put him up in the Best of the 80's list. J'Lo's getting married to Ben Affleck? Put them both up on the Pop Culture Icons list.

My second beef is that I really don't see the need to RANK all these people and stuff in the first place. Rather than make the "Top 100 R&B Groups of all time", why not make "The Best R&B Groups of all Time". Why must everything have a number quantifying how good it is? Why can't we all just like and despise?!

Anyway, what's your opinion on it?
