Thanks Gametap!
Does it got HUGE NEW ZONES?!
YEAH!!!
I felt bad when my jaw slightly unhinged at how huge Marble Garden Zone's map was. Forgot it was that big.
I want it in 3D noaw.
Dang you, DB, I should have already been in bed by now but you had to go and post these! But man it was awesome; sadly, even though I haven't had problems with the recent games, they didn't even see fit to even mention how ill-receieved the recent Sonic games have been.

Yeah it was educating. I had no idea Sonic' shoes were inspired by Santa Claus and Micheal Jackson XD
LOL at SoJ president reaction to including Sonic 1 with the Genesis. Not a bad retrospective.
Aw, I wanted Game Trailers to do the first retrospective on Sonic.
But what we have here is pretty good, the interviews being the high points.
After seeing these videos, I want to play Unleashed again. o.o
I thought it was really interesting that in the interview with Oshima he mentions that he wanted to give Sonic an attitude like President Clinton's. Then while I was working tonight I realized that Bush was president when Sonic was created, so then why did Oshima mention Clinton?

The US elected Clinton in November 1991, several months after Sonic 1's release. Perhaps he was talking about Sonic 2's development?
Uh, didn't Clinton win in the November of 92?
Yeah, 92..so Im wondering how that made any relevance
From those videos it seems that SoJ and SoA had been arguing long before Sonic 1 even came out..
Also, funny how the decisions of SoA ended up being the "right" ones that brought success to the franchise and Sega.
OH THE IRONY O-o
I wonder though. If they had kept Madonna and the rockband concept, and that early japanese art style of him. Would I have been as endeared to Sonic as I am now.
Yeah, I´ve thought about the same thing...
When I first learned about the concept of Sonic´s girlfriend "Madonna" (long before I ever saw those videos btw...) it striked me as something completely out-of-place and was glad it had been scrapped until Sonic ´06.
Actually I didn´t have much of a problem with it having been a human-animal relationship, but rather because the character Madonna seemed like the "stereotypical girlfriend" that appeared in a lot of cartoons, a kind of character I really am not very fond of.
On the subject of the rock band... two words: Sonic Underground. 8D
As for the different art style I´m not sure...
When I first played a Sega console, a Master System that belonged to my grandmother (I had a gaming grandma LONG before Nintendo´s Brain Training!), she had only three games:
A brazilian hack of Wonderboy with popular comic book characters instead of the original main char sprites, another game released only in Brazil taken from a popular kid´s show about dogs and Sonic Chaos.
Of course I began by picking up the Wonderboy game since the characters were familiar to me, when I got stuck in that I had the choice between some unknown, american-kirby-faced cat look-a-like (Sonic) and the dogs.
Since I don´t like dogs and like cats I ended up choosing Sonic, but I must say that at the time his angry look didn´t appeal to me at all. I guess that maybe back then I would have preferred the cuter, japanese look.
