hey did anyone notice only amy has a real name? i mean a human common name.
it would be neat if sonic team's next addition character had a real name too! instead of being called after traits they have "like sonic for being fast, knuckles for using his knuckles...".
Let's not forget Miles and Ivo. 😛
Maurice!
[dodges bricks]
ivo?
Ivo Robotnik, sonicsfan. 😛 And Maurice!? *throws bricks*
Ah, my days as posting in old RP chats as Sonic Maurice... ~Misty-eyed reminiscence!~ D:
what the?! where are you getting those names from!!
i'm talking about legit sonic characters
Maurice: Sonics first name {sonic comic - America}
Ivo: Official First name of Robotnik (see sonic 1's manual!)
Miles: Miles Prower - Tails first name.
Anything else you want to object with? 😛
<runs in shame to hide under a table>
Nah, you aren't stupid - just uninformed sometimes. :3
There's Ray as well, although he only appeared in one game...
Good catch there, Wrath!
waaaaaaaaa no one post here >_< let my topic die and hide away so no one else find out how little info i got
There's Ray as well, although he only appeared in one game...
Oh Wraith I love You (For remembering Ray). I want to make babies with you even though you are an Echidna!
I guess Tikal wouldn't count as a human name, but it is the name of a National Park in Guatemala.
Don't forget Maria and Gerald. Those are pretty standard names, too.
And Wendy Witchcart!
And Chaos! It was pretty much my name when I was younger...going by what my mom, atleast. xP
And Elsie! [pelted by stones]
You mean elise. 😛
Mephiles could be real name. Maybe.
I'm sure he's called Phil for short.
You know, for someone called sonicsfan, you don't know a lot about Sonic.
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i tried every other username all the good ones were taking so i got bored and typed something like sonicsfan1991 when i ran out of ideas >_< its a bad choice i admit it and i'm a bad sonic fan i missed like 2/3s of his games....... i just love sonic for being sonic.
i'm ashamed -_-
Okay okay. What games have you played?
What about...
.. erm.
"D'uh, Froggy!"
Sally Acorn?
*bricked*.
i played sonic 1,2,3, sonic and knuckles, sonic 3D blast, sonic R, sonic jam, sonic advance, sonic advance 2, sonic chronicles, sonic rush, sonic the hedgehog 2006, sonic advanture, SA2, shadow the hedgehog, sonic shuffle, sonic dash or something (the one with the skateboards)
i underlined the ones i finished i played a lot of sonic games now that i think about it.
I noticed 3 is not completed. Was it the barrel?
^I love how that's the answer to anybody who still hasn't gone back to finish that game.
Also, Vector!
I can accept Victor, but Vector?
I noticed 3 is not completed. Was it the barrel?
no, it was the boss fight at the end... btw i never gotten all the emeralds in any sonic game but i'm guessing that doesnt matter, i still finished the games.
It's gaining a following, at least.
I was sure that Vector was a play on Victor too, considering most of the other characters are a play on puns and/or symbolisms.
Well there is Vector as in Vector graphics, like what Vectorman is named after.
Well, a vector is a geometric object with magnitude and direction (thank you wikipedia). He's the leader of the Chaotix (or at least their dubious detective agency), hence he provides the direction. Damn I'm good. There's also no such thing as an Espio, although there is an "espio" in "espionage". Dat's Sonic World slang, yo! Anyway, Amy also had that Rosie (or was it Rosy?) alias, which jives with the name scheme. That just leaves Ray as the odd one out.
And as long as we're talking about names, why in the hell was Tails given a speed-related name and not Sonic? (Yes I know Sonic is, but I mean ACTUAL names.) That just doesn't make sense! Million Dollar Question: which of the following characters in the Sonic franchise has the name Miles Prower?
A: A hedgehog who runs really fast
B: A fox who flies
C: An echidna (sidenote: not in spellcheck) who is super powerful
Wait, it's the flying fox? ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!?!
For all your lightgun shooting needs and some other insanity too.
Actually, Rose, and Rosy/Rosie, is also a real and somewhat common name. I work with a woman and a sweet old lady that used to be in my Granny's church whose names are Rose/Rosie. So, Amy has a dual real name.
So, Amy has a dual real name.
So does Mary Sue. *dodges hammer*

Far more than me. If gaming is anything to go by you're much more of a fan than I am^^

Sonic is a much better name for the Hedgehog since he can run at (or past) the speed of sound. It suits him far better than any contrived name could. Tails, on the other hand, while being unusually fast for a fox, just isn't up to the same standard as Sonic, so a contrived name suits him better. Plus a contrived name is a little bit cheesy and not as cool, so likely wouldn't have caught on as well in the consumer base if it was ascribed to a central, main character.
On a side note, though, I was always under the impression that Tails' real name was Miles 'Prowler', not 'Prower'. Yes still clearly a play on words and designed to look like a reference to speed, but slightly more reallistic and less contrived than 'Prower'. Am I wrong in that one?
Yeah. It's Prower (Per Hour), always has been.
So, Amy has a dual real name.
So does Mary Sue. *dodges hammer*
How in the world did I miss this, and darn, Amy's ability to spawn multiple hammers! I wouldn't be surprised if the used Prower for it similarities to prowler as well.

Oh no, I wasn't saying that I wanted Sonic to have the name, because let's face it, it IS a stupid name. I'm just saying it doesn't make sense that in the second game they give him a flying sidekick lacking his speed and yet they bestow upon him a speed-related name as well. Apparently SEGA thought so too because they wanted to call him Tails instead, but nooooooo, his creator really liked that name... You know, I was thought it was Prowler too for the longest time (I'd say until at least 2000) so the whole pun kinda flew (ding!) right over my head.
And back to Amy... Yeah, but rose or rosy are actual words too, so that would conform to the descriptive nickname scheme.
For all your lightgun shooting needs and some other insanity too.
Sonic for a hedgehog makes sense, though. Not only is he fast, but his real life counterpart is pretty darn speedy as well.
I had a very cute pet hedgehog once, and she could scoot, especially if she was in a hamster ball. We could easily lose track of her if we looked away for a second. You wouldn't think a critter with legs that tiny could be so fast.
Not to mention airplanes can reach incredibly high speeds, so why wouldn't a flying character having a speed-based name make sense?
kayla got a point, tails's tails look like a propeller. and if you dont make it spin fast in zone two you wont cross the water if you arent fast enough like sonic. but sonic isnt the fastest hedgehog in the world now right? amy and shadow are fast too.
Nah - Sonics STILL the FASTEST, but there *are* fast hedgehogs other than him...
but how would you know if he's the fastest? in the games amy or shadow can do the speedy stuff sonic does
Hey, it's the selling point - they don't 'claim' the others are as Fast as sonic or faster - it's usually just for the sake of gameplay speed.
Sounds like it's time for SUPER SONIC HEDGEHOG COMBAT
GOOD VERSUS EVIL
STRONG VERSUS WEAK
BLONDE VERSUS BROWN HEDGIE
GO! .. G- No!
Yeah. It's Prower (Per Hour), always has been.
You
know, I was thought it was Prowler too for the longest time (I'd say
until at least 2000) so the whole pun kinda flew (ding!) right over my
head.
That's the thing though, I got the pun on MPH even though I thought his name was Prowler. I thought it was really
cool how they'd managed to include the pun yet still use a reallistic
name that didn't sound way too cheesy...the 'prowl' aspect could even
relate to his vulpine tendancies (noctournal, slinking in shadows,
simply a 'wild animal-esque' word all around) and it became a double
pun, making it work on so many different levels! So to find out that
all this is wrong and it is in fact nothing but a cheesy, unreallistic
pun is a serious letdown tbh
Bah, forget what SEGA says, in my universe he will always be Prowler
but how would you know if he's the fastest?
Well, let's cut up the competition.
Tails isn't actually as fast as Sonic, as he uses his Tails to propel himself to top speeds. Knuckles just simply isn't as fast. As for Shadow, I always felt due to the 'skates' he wore (which imo gives him the majority of his speed), he wasn't actually as fast as Sonic, either.
Boom. Common sense.
You know, I've actually never said Miles Prower out loud before. In my universe, he will always just be Tails.
I was going to make some joke about them not being able to work Revolutions Per Minute into a name, but somehow it just doesn't seem as funny onscreen as it was in my head. Oh well.
For all your lightgun shooting needs and some other insanity too.
They are equally fast while Sonic has special moves (insta shield, shield boosts) that facilitate faster battle and platforming vs. the slower fly and climb. Which is more evidence of S3&K's design strength.
